What is human about them? How can you even judge that when the combined screentime between Kazu, Ryou and Lin is about a whole episode?
|
Dairanger 37.
So this was basically three episodes, combined together. And to be fair to the show, it did a pretty good job of bringing it all together, although I would have preferred a villain with a cooler design than that stupid Pachinko Player. Also, hey, they remembered Kou was in this show! It's funny how his disappearance only further highlighted how shit the Dairanger's are and was used, perhaps unintentionally, as a plot device. It was also funny that the show itself seemed to forget as much as Kou did that this as all supposed to be a dream. This is one of the first times in the series I've seen the mech stuff decently integrated into the rest of the action. I mean it still looked pretty poor but at least they seemed to actually try this time. Especially when we got to see all the carnage that ensues from all the flattened cardboard buildings, I thought sentai never faced up to the complete disregard of human life in these battles, I was wrong. |
Alright, instead of going on with Goseiger today, I finally continued Kyoryuger. I've made it to Episode 11, and I gotta say, I'm liking "Utchy". He might be my favorite character in Kyoryuger. Good thing they announced his figuarts toy the other day, I'm totally going to buy that. :lol
Anyway, a particular pattern I've noticed is that for special ranger color schemes, we seem to be repeating Go-Onger and Samurai's patterns so far. The special rangers of Go-Busters was "silver" and a gold ranger, and now in Kyoryuger, we have a Gold Ranger who kind of reminds me of Genta. Maybe this new sentai will have a silver "Gosei Knight" like Ranger. |

Everything about the mech stuff is tacked on, to actually recognise the carnage would involve them integrating the mech stuff...and that is like, effort man. Dairanger only has a handful of scaled sets, most of which rarely match up to where they are fighting beforehand, which seems strangely counter productive as they throw the giant stuff right into the middle of the henshin hero stuff, then give no impression there are two giant things fighting in the same place as the rest of our heroes.
|
Well, the problem with a lot of series's mech fights is that it's an obvious "To sell toys" moment. From what I know, it seems like the only recent series to have important mecha are Go-Onger and GoBuster (I haven't seen either series, but Go-Onger's mech played a large role in it's cross over with Geki, so I'm assuming it's the same in series, and one of the biggest praises I've heard for GoBuster is how it handled the mecha).
|
Go-Busters managed to make the mech fights integral to the show and for the biggest part it used the individual mechs instead of the combination, leading to more dynamic fights.
One of the things I like is that the MoTW and the enemy mechs are different entities, so it's common for the foot and mech fights to happen simultaneously. |

Kazu has had plenty of screen time be it with the drunken Tofu monster, the clone, being stuck with the mask of death, and being the subplot with Daimugen. Ryo has had massive amounts of screen time. Lin has been with Kous story line. |

Kazu focused episodes don't exist, even if he has some focus, it's inside episodes where other much more important things are happening. Then there are episodes where he is on screen for the whole episode, but it's actually an evil copy so that doesn't count. Or that episode where he got the mask stuck on his face, sure he was on screen a lot, but I learnt nothing about him as a character as he flailed around. Ryou gets focus out of the principle of being Red, sure, but considering all we've seen of Daigo and the HUGE amounts of focus he has, I don't understand why he isn't Red. All we know from Ryou is he is a bit of a brutish hothead. Lin's focus centres around the show going 'eurgh ain't she fit'...no, not really. And sure she takes a central part to Kou's character arcs...all three of them...in nearly forty episodes....yeah. |

Yes, Daigo is the character that is fully developed throughout the show, but that does not mean the other rangers aren't. I do admit, Shouji and Kazu have the weakest development, but that just seemed to be how the yellow and blue rangers were during that era as Dan, Boi, Saito, Sekai, Yuji, Juuri (and even Goushi and Shouhei), to name a few series in a row, were under developed. Of course, even to this day, usually only half a team is fully developed. |
Guess what I did? Started rewatching Tensou Sentai Goseiger! And today we start with Epic 1!
The episode opens with the Tower of Heaven, which I am disappointed hasn't showed up in Megaforce somehow (Call it Gosei's Stronghold, I don't care!), and Dereouta destroying the link between Heaven and the Earth. Cutting off our intrepid heroes from the Earth! Which is a scene we'll never see since they have to cram an entire season into half of one for Gokaiger! ... Bitter? Me?! No! > . > < . < > . > Moving on... Alata gets alot of crap but he's a very good Red Sentai. All he wants to do is help Nozomi (My spelling is godaweful this morning) do the right thing. But he's not why I watch, let's be honest. Moune Gushing in 3... 2... 1... MOUNE is why I watch Goseiger! And once again she was absolutely perfect, even if she didn't get much to do in this episode. But she will soon. But what she did do in this episode was perfect. Because Moune. |

But whatever, I have no intention in trying to change your mind. You're perfectly free to enjoy Dairanger as much as you like, but it doesn't need you to jump to its defense every time someone considers it less than the golden standard of Super Sentai. |

Dairanger 38.
Man this was a good episode! The Dragon God is awesome. I'm pretty sure it killed like a million people on its first appearance. They did a pretty great job integrating him, minus the dated effects, and the Dairanger's really picked their game up here as well. It only took them thirty eight episodes, but they finally felt like real heroes. I tell you what though, I fucking hate XV. He is so fucking annoying, and so fucking pathetic, minus Jin all the Gorma are just jokes. I want my villains to make me go 'oh shit, shit just got real' like the Dragon God did, not just groan and wait for their scenes to be over. The Gorma provide no threat and in turn are completely unengaging. |

In this show he's basically Hal Jordan, only rather than trying to save the universe, he just destroys it because if there is no universe to fight in, then you can't...fight in it. |
I adored Serpentara. He was just woefully underused in MMPR.

Serpentera had to run on C Batteries in MMPR since there's no other excuse for why it was never used :p

Go-Busters 38: :lol at jealous Ryuuji, standard wedding episode of the season, Ryuuji stole the shows this week and Escape... tried, I still don't like her, and it feels kinda out of place for Enter to let her do as she pleases, sure he has his reasons but even so.
Ace continues to look boss riding LiOh even if it feels pointless and the "wedding" was funny as heck: Morishita as the priest, Kurorin as the bride's father. :lolol |
I liked how Escape crashed the wedding. Also, this was one of the few good Youko episodes...

Most Yoko episodes are shared but this one was barely Yoko centric, the ones where she teamed with J and Jin were great though. |
My problem with Youko was that she wasn't a very stable character to begin with. It's hard to set some personality traits for her.
But yeah, her teaming up with J and Jin was pretty cool :) |

Go-Busters 38: Let's Wrestling! It's Filler Time!
That was kinda stupid, but the idea of a building-sized Metaroid was interesting. Determined Hiromu being determined and the debut of Go-Buster"Oh" *facepalm* complete this one. |
Quote:
Gobuster King rocked too. It's a big silly over the top design and I love everything about it. |
Quote:
King is really cool, all of the Go-Busters combinations are all over the place but they have their charm. I loved how Ryuuji and Yoko tried to break the entrance in normal ways, but J and Jin summoned their Megazord from the start. :lol |
Goseiger 6: Aka the episode were Alata's injury becomes important again, overall a very solid episode, from Dereputa's return to the Mech battle.
If I were to nitpick I would prefer if the Headders got episodes focusing on them being awakened, instead of simply appearing when they are needed, but I guess that's personal preference. *Goseiger 7: Alata's reaction to Eri being dragged against her will? Waving. :lolol Agri learns to tickle monsters to death and finds something to protect: Cabbagges. :lol The ending was fun too. Fun, but the creepy old man episodes are always that: creepy. |
Dairanger 39.
I knew this would happen, a Dragon God almost destroys the planet, and next episode the gang are playing baseball in a park like nothing happened. Ryou believes Jin is worth saving, because Jin saved him, despite the fact that Jin has murdered countless others. You think you're more important than all those who have died Ryou? Apparently so. I mean are we really supposed to be impressed by the lengths Ryou will go to for a mass murderer? He is such a shit red. Zydos sure proved himself to be a competent fighter, though, maybe there is hope for the Gorma to be interesting, yet. And that final scene man, holy shit that was AWESOME. |
Because I'm the kind of guy that doesn't understand the concept of "watching too much stuff at once" I decided to watch the first ep of Gekiranger.
It definitely didn't dissapoint excellent fights a promising story and Jan is tons of fun. What I didn't expect was an Adidas like company supporting the team. :lol Neko~ |
