I like to watch some subbed anime as some animes I like either haven't gotten a license for the either the show itself or the first/second season if it's a 2 season anime or if the show just will never get a dub or if the dub wasn't done that well.

Fun fact, it's proven that people who report to being the best at multi-tasking are actually really horrible at it. Basically, humans generally stink and analyzing out own abilities. If you guys say you are able to perfectly look in multiple places at once then more power to you. Most of us can't do that. It's why people generally discover new things on a second or even third viewing of TV shows or movies, even in their native language. We're only human.

Same. To me it's just the same as watching a movie, I often have subs on both video games and English language films as well so I don't miss dialogue.

I wasn't trying to say it was multi-tasking. I was just pointing out that you wouldn't realize if you were missing things. You would assume you hadn't just like a lot of people assume they are doing two tasks (say talking on the phone and writing a paper) at 100% even though the more confident they are about it the lower their performance. Again, I'm not saying reading subs is multi-tasking. Maybe it technically is but I don't count it as such. I'm just saying it's easy to not realize when you are missing stuff.


I do the same thing for video games for when voices aren't clear or the dialogue audio is too low and you can't hear what's being said.I don't mind reading it when I have to but I would rather stare where my eye is drawn for as long as I desire.

I saw a study on foreign language films a couple of years back where it showed the audiences missed more of the visual details of in foreign films than ones in their own language. Like, they scored lower on tests about specific details after the viewings. I should try to track that down. I don't remember what they suggested was the reason for that. A general audience might be different than seasoned anime vets.

I'm sure some people have brains more suited to it. I just know the general population always complains about subs and I even see anime fans who prefer subs saying they miss things and have to rewind, especially with heavy action series. I've never said it's wrong to watch subs (I watch plenty of them), it just means you are valuing one thing over the other if you pick them to a fault. For most people, subs mean the animation comes second to them. Even more so if someone doesn't read as fast as we do. Some people with learning disabilities get completely lost with subs or even just people that read slower for whatever reason.

i can put my two cent on this after watching few episode of DBZ Season 5 subbed and all of the original Classic Dragonball subbed i can say the japanese cast is actully fare better then dub there more emotion in the character that i never felt before in the dub and the screaming is not as bad as the dub make it out to be and what the japanese say when the subs is some time different to what the dub has due to script need to word to make the dub work in with an american audiance.

That used to be the norm for dubs, especially when made to air as cartoons for kids. Are there any 4kids dubs that don't ruin the shows? Even as a kid I found the parts strange where there would be no Japanese dialog and they would have something in English so there wouldn't be silence. DBZ is when I first discovered that by watching in English with subs for the Japanese on.

yea i know what you mean I dont bash dub unless its on goinsh serise and i can use the dub to catch up quicker and continue sub that what i done with Fairy Tail and One piece and bleach i watch all the dubbed episodes that had been dubbed for bleach it was up to the start of the zanpacto filler arc i switched to subs after one piec eit was after water 7 arc was finished and i watched only 38 episode of fairy tail dubbed. i do support the dubs if i enjoy the dubs. its like i ended up hating naruto due to the dub only just recently i watched it subbed and and blanked the dub ever was done. but 4Kids there the most racist company i know for anime

Talisman Jaffe at NDK last Sept said that, "The job if the subtitles is to explain the joke to you. The job of the English dub is to perform the joke and make you laugh the same way it would without subtitles as it was originally intended were someone fluent in Japanese watching it."

He is quite right. Yes, we will laugh when we read funny lines in the subs, but they will never be as effect as actually hearing the joke spoken.

The only things I do no like watching dubbed are live action things. If I have to, I will, but I always tend to look at the audio as if it is out of synch when I do.

I really enjoy the Fairy Tail dub but I go to 75 or whatever it is Hulu has then switched to sub because I decided I didn't want to wait. Naruto I watched all in dub but Shippuden I haven't seen any because they weren't out (only in the 150's on that show though). I don't even remember where I am with Bleach as I heard bad things about where it goes and I started watching other stuff.

What I hate is how much of a pain it can be to get dubs from legal places. Like on Hulu they will put up a season and then it's gone after a month or so sometimes. Then they have the second season dubbed but the not the first, and then that's gone too. It's pretty silly. I am forced to watch a lot of subs because it's often the only thing available, or easily accessible, so I appreciate when good dubs are out there. I find with comedies I just find most shows more funny with the dub and I will almost always wait for them, unless I hear they've changed the show too much and ruined it.


Yeah, it would be hard for me to imagine watching a Sentai series with English dubs. I enjoyed Jackie Chan movies like that as a kid and part of the fun comes in the humor of the bad dub but it largely is too distracting for more serious work. I will say that I still love the dubbed version of "Kung Fu Hustle".

yea i know what you mean Fairy Tail really enjoy subbs more then i do the dub now due to the fact one of my favorite character in it wendy sounded like ash ketchem from pokemon and i did not like it. it did not suit here characters. also i two when it comes to dubs if its dub full like FMA BH or short comady animes ill watch them dubbed. but ongoing i will switch to subs if i caught up with dub. the only decent live action movie dub i like due to it the best i have seen is the death note live action movies dubb cause it been dubbed by a proper anime dubbing company

Actually I really liked the Bleach dub, simply because Bosch was like the perfect Ichigo and although everyone else was as bland as usual for a dub I just loved his portrayal so much.

Finished the first half of SAO. Very good so far, really I feel that the show could just end here and I'd be completely satisfied... but the fact that there's more ain't so bad either! :D

I Dropped Zexal completely because I absolutely could not stand Yuma.

But from the sound of things, the lead for this series is gonna be fairly laid back and might know what he's doing. I'm hoping they take a Vanguard approach this season but I kinda doubt it.

So knowing it was out there, I did track down a stream of Madoka Magica Rebellion Story...

So that was generally confusing for a bit there... First of all, and I don't know why, but I find the cake song near the beginning to be the absolute most disturbing part of the movie. It was just so weird to me.

But then the ending of the movie. So it's basically the mirror of the show... Instead of Madoka left as a god and everyone left to live their lives peacefully (for the most part), Homura let herself become a devil. But also with the caveat that, oh yeah, Madoka could still regain her memories and all the fighting just happen again?

But even just ignoring the somewhat open ending, it just bugged me so much that Homura did that at all. She did not strike me as such a twisted, evil person at all. Heck, what she did is more cruel Kyubey contracting with magical girls at the cost of their lives in a way.

You know, I just don't get that mentality. Why would I want to watch a movie poorly dubbed, which will ruin my enjoyment of it when I can watch it subbed and just enjoy the movie?

It depends if you only following the dub of the anime cause I dropped the dub from episode 37 got used to subbs and Wendy voice it ment to be a kind gently soft approach and not rough boys sound like ash voice. But like I said it all depended if your just following the dub then I can under stand way you find her dub voice great.

I thought SAO started of great but I had hoped to see a bunch of the boss battles. The idea of all these people being trapped together was pretty interesting but I think the second half definitely fell off.



Did you grow up watching poorly dubbed martial arts films? It's not that the voices are always bad, it's that it's impossible to sync them up with live action. It works with comedy because it adds silliness to it. Then again, I like watching movies that are so terrible they become fun to watch. Like Nic Cage's Wicker Man.

Eh, I felt having few boss battles added to the weight of them. Especially towards the very end with that serpent made of bones. That one was intense!

To comment on that part of Rebellion, I believe it's not that Homura was evil deep down or anything. If anything, it's more that she just snapped and went insane. The revelation that even after Madoka sacrificed her existence in order to eliminate witches and end the suffering of all puella magi, she still wouldn't be safe from the incubators, the creations of witches could still be possible and that everything she had worked for to keep Madoka safe was STILL for nothing in the end was too much for her to take emotionally and mentally. She couldn't even be allowed to let her witch side take full control and just die because in the end Madoka was able to save her for the most part.

So the path Homura chose was one where SHE'D be able to control everything and watch over everyone to make sure nothing bad ever happened to them again, but at the cost of constantly fogging their memories and veiling their eyes to who they really are and what is really happening. It's a happy ending in the most twisted sense of the term.

I grew up watching poorly dubbed Kaiju movies. I don't care for it when they insert their own jokes and whatnot. If they are going to dub it, they need to be as accurate as possible to the original translations.

Besides the ending was the overall movie enjoyable? I have yet to watch it, sadly I already knew about the ending due to some silly friends of mine.

The second season of Saint Seiya Omega ended today and it was... a trainwreck.

The original season was pretty good, part sequel, part reimake, it took the story arcs of the original season but with a new cast and antagonists, The Galaxian Wars became Palaestra, then the Silver Saints showed up and then there was a race to complete the 12 Houses.

It was a new Saint Seiya for a younger fanbase, but it had good execution an enjoyable storyline and a strong cast.

Second season, completely dropped all that, in fact it completely forgot it's protagonists for most of the season, only the first few eps and the finale focused on them, with no real growth or depth added to them, instead their screen time was sacrificed for apperances from characters from the original saga, even the original Steel Saints reappeared, and truth to be told, nobody cares about them, the result was a very broken and disjointed story which felt incredibly repetitive as the saints essentially fought the same 2 or 3 villains for 50 or so episodes, it had it's moments and Subaru was a pretty cool guy, but all things said it was an incredibly dissapointing second season, and an even worse goodbye to the show.

Ohh well, I'll try to remain optimistic for the new SS movie, Legend of Sanctuary.

SAO Episode 15: Return

Second half is off to a decent start. Signs of the apocalypse are beginning to show but nothing major... Here's hoping for the best. :o

it was a very typical first episode, but I enjoyed watching it. The action was great, and I got a few laughs from it.
