I loved Enter from the start, he was smart and resourceful, but his potential was restrained by Messiah's childish behaviour. Had he had more resources in this second half of the show, the Go-Busters would have been completely screwed.
On the other hand he doesn't really have any good motivations to be the villain so it is very possible he wasn't meant to be the big bad. |
I liked him too, but he did feel different from before in the second half of the series. At least not as interesting.
|
True, the loss of Messiah affected his character notably, he no longer had a counterpart or a master, and his relationship with Escape being basically non-existant didn't help in the slightest.
By that point he was acting out of inertia... |
The relationship with Escape was actually pointed out too late in the series. I guess if there was more of that, Enter would have worked much better.

41: Make room for the 6th ranger! Pink Buster is here! :lol Another fun episode, that adds more depth to the previous ones with the explanation at the beginning. |
Escape was there for nothing but fanservice, plain and simple.

Megaranger episode 39. I love that little girl, she's so spunky and funny.

Rio is redeemed by the end and although he does carry out some questionable deeds early on, overall both he and Mele are honorable warriors. I dont really look at them as villains because of this. Enter was wacky then brilliantly evil all the way through. Loved him. But I dont know that he was the best. Buredoran is still way up there for me.
|
I classify Rio as an antagonist, but not necessarily a villain, since, when all is said and done he is ultimately redeemed.
Because I watch so little Sentai, I can't really declare a best villain, but I really like Long and Brajira. |
Antagonist is a good call. I didn't really class him as a "villain" so I'm just gonna use that from now on :p
And yeah, Brajira is another one of my favourites. |
Brajira/Buredoran is one of the best truly evil villains. I mean you've gotta be a total bastard to go from being an angel sent from heaven to fight for the earth, to someone who sacrificed his teammates just to be stronger and eventually tried to erase humanity to cleanse the Earth. Love him every time he shows up.
|
Brajira was one of the most bad-ass sentai-villains so far.

Go-Busters 42: Train stuff, Yoko ep, neat and everything but 43 takes priority.
43: The Christmas episode, I was looking forward to this one given the importance of Christmas in the show. Excellent episode, the Music Box was integrated very well, and things get serious as Escape "shut downs" Enter. 44: Ok this is the second "ending" this show gets, and like the last one it was simply astounding. 20 minutes of non-stop mecha action (Megazord clearance sale :lol) the defeat of Messiah and Escape (and just now she was getting interesting... meh, not a big loss). I would have liked if they had used J buddyroid form in "that" scene (you guys know what I mean). Lovely scene in the orphanage too. Plus it seems I got a new sig. It's a tree. :lolol 45: I swear to God, these guys get the worst costumes ever, J and Jin take the cake, as usual. :lolol Funny as always, I love how Go-Busters manages to mix humor and drama so well, when it's dark it's really dark, but when it wants to be funny it's simply: :lolol I guess next is Gokaiger vs Go-Busters. |

Still denying Brajira's awesomeness? OH YES, SENTAI PRESSED THE NUCLEAR END THE WORLD BUTTON!

I kinda feel like I should give Goseiger another go, after I've finished Liveman. But then I really didn't like it the first time around, and now I've seen a big chunk of the fights in Megaforce. But it looks like, just like with most toku, all the good stuff comes toward the end.

Dairanger 45.
How is it that we're four episodes away from the end of this series, and the Rangers are still squabbling like teenage girls? Daigo shouldn't have to remind the rest of the team to work together for fucks sake. In the end, I think Daigo will be my only fond memory of this show. Shiryuu or whatever his name was, was pretty cool though, especially seeing the police called in to deal with him. |

Since I don't really have time to finish one of the GARO movies before I go out, I decided to watch the third episode of Liveman.
I guess there was a continuity error at the end of the second episode of Liveman where we see Obler already has some weird monster mouth. Then again in the flashback Obler was dressed as his evilself...already...for some reason. Even when he accessed his true monster form, man was it goofy. How has he ascended humanity? He's still just as humanoid as the other members of his team, unless he can't even transform back again I suppose. But still. Red Falcon, is cool as hell. Nice to see at least one Sentai Red with common sense. After watching Ryou for so long, I was starting to lose hope. Jou is a fucking dipstick though. |

With all that said; In terms of quality and overall entertainment value I think Go-Onger and RPM are the best sentai and PR series. If anyone hasn't watched Go-Onger then it's one you should check out asap. I mean, it's definitely on the silly side so it is important to know that going into it but it's silly done right! |

Dairanger 46.
The mech stuff, although still not exactly good, is always more enjoyable when integrated into the rest of the footage well. It's the little things, like the panicking crowds that adds to the believability that the mech battle is really happening in the city. Even if the dated effects betray it, but it has been like two decades. Shiryuu was pretty cool, shame that he basically appeared, then died and served pretty much no purpose. It's a shame as well, because the whole idea of two Gorma factions, both with drastically different views on how it should be run is really interesting. But instead for the majority of the series the Gorma hierarchy and all the rest has just been pure random nonsense that was seemingly made up as they went. Then again, a lot of this shit falls flat. A huge part of this arc is the Dairanger's feeling betrayed by their master but thanks to pretty much zero character focus all this does is make the Dairanger's look like idiots. Blindly trusting and following a crazy old man for absolutely no reason at all, then somehow having the gall to be surprised when it goes pear shaped. And then whenever someone points out the bullshit, mostly towards Ryou who is one of the worst reds of all time, he responds with aggression and violence to his friends and team members. Worst. Rangers. Ever. Still, my favourite part was when Ryou suddenly remembered his Dad. A crucial part of his character, which hasn't been mentioned since the arc it was included in, forty episodes ago. It's almost as bad as the mysteries around the antennas which wasn't a mystery at all. |
Liveman 03.
I love how Bias is basically Andrew Ryan only with greater ambition. I mean sure Ryan built a city under the sea but Bias literally wants to terraform the whole planet for his Rapture. Even better is that to achieve his goal, he seems to actually try logical methods, rather than just attacking the same unimportant city over and over again with one monster at a time. I also like how Megumi is the most grounded and intelligent of the three Livemen we have so far. It's almost like sentai is handling a female character well, but let's not be ridiculous now. Plus, she is pretty hot, even if she is a little boss eyed. Even the mech stuff is pretty fun, I mean at times it's like I'm watching zoids and then Thunderbirds, but for the most part the mech stuff is integrated well and they use a nice range of techniques to try and convince it isn't just a dude in a box on a train set. I bring this up, because Dairanger basically uses the same three shots over and over and over again to try and convince us they are giants and not only is it monotonous but the repetition breaks the illusion almost as much as the dated special effects work. Man this is having a much stronger start than Dairanger did. |
Go-Busters 46: A character's accuracy decreases dramatically when it's enemy unmorphs. :lol
J's Stag Beetle, why!? And Escape is really messed up right now... 47: Enter's backup... Hiromu... THE HECK!? 48: And everything makes sense now... damn, heavy stuff. |
Dairanger 47.
This has to be one of my favourite episodes for the team as a whole. Through the whole series I have been completely unconvinced that the Dairanger's are the same people in and out of the suits and what little we learn about them across the series, only further stretches the divide between them. So to see them stand up and fight with no powers, to do their famous role call, poses and moves unmorphed, was both really thrilling and gave me a lot of respect for them, but it's also probably the only time in the whole series I really believed it was them in the suits all along (minus maybe Ryou and Daigo who were more consistent). So wait, Kaku's plan relied on the Dairanger's killing Shiryuu so he could use the staff as a power conduit to defeat Shadam? I hope you had a plan B, bro, because you scored the one in a gagillion chance of this paying off. Shadam's transformed form was pretty cool, but what happened to him turning into metal and shit? |
Ooops my last Liveman write up was on the fourth episode, not the third, my bad.
Anyway, episode five. I'm still really liking these Rangers. I love how the Red is lead on pure emotion, but isn't stupid about it. He isn't good for goods sake, he's just honest, and quite often honesty isn't always the thing the person wants to hear. And I love how this is balanced with the much more straight laced Megumi, borderline cold as she is focused almost completely on the mission. Just a shame then that Jou's comic relief always falls flat and he just comes across as an imbecile. Still they have such wonderful chemistry and I truly believe in their friendship. Plus, I love how their individual talents are already established. They aren't just a bunch of rookies who miraculously master martial arts thanks to some spandex, they built their own Ranger powers and their own mecha, and those skills carry on outside of the fight footage. I mean that is seriously fucking badass. The LiveCougar, despite the stupid name, was pretty fucking cool as well. |
Dairanger 48.
This episode was so stupid. Master Kaku was kicking Shadam's ass, then he decided to just throw away victory and start using his powers for no reason. And even though he didn't need the powers to win in the first place, once he lost those powers he started getting his ass kicked anyway. How do you lose consistency in a single fight sequence? Also what was with his final line, 'so these are your hands', what does that even mean? Why did Zydos suddenly get a volcano head? What happened to his metal form? Oh well, the scene of him falling to bits was actually pretty damn terrifying. Although are we gonna explain any of this? I'm guessing no... Also that scene of the Dairanger's getting their powers back was crap. |
