Checked out my first two picks for this anime season - Captain Earth and Daimidaler.
Captain Earth really is Eureka Seven meets Star Driver, and with those being two of my absolute favourite shows this has some real potential. The story didn't explain a lot (in fact it was pretty confusing) but it had E7 written all over it - the character design, the fashion, weird children with odd coloured hair. Meanwhile the mecha was totally Star Driver - what I assume was the villains had mecha that looked like they were lifted straight out of it, while the main mech was essentially a bulkier, blockier version of Taubarn. Exciting stuff. Daimidaler on the other hand - well that was a thing. A high school kid pilots a crappy looking robot and powers it by fondling women's boobs. He battles the Penguin Empire, which is made up of people in penguin suits (which bizarrely all have boners) piloting penguin-esque mecha with crotch cannons. Oh Japan, what will you think of next? It was pretty terrible, but the kind of terrible that you can't help but to want to watch more. |
I finished watching Captian Earth just now myself.
I've seen someone compare it to Valvrave, and I do see a few similarities here and there…the high school theme and super hacker girl for one thing but also a lot of the visual elements too. Still, I think this series has potential. There wasn't a lot of back story but what was there could be interesting. Also, the show's got some gorgeous animation. |
If I had to describe Captain Earth in one word it would be: Beautiful.
It's hard to judge mech shows by their first ep, since most follow the same exact format, but it had interesting ideas and it was simply a very good looking show, I mean dang, it's frigging pretty. |

Yes it was. And there was actually some danger involved. I guess they didn't show the other ones because they said no one had died in a while. I just thought the best moments of the show were when people got put to the choice of potentially dying. And seeing the ways some died in the game and how the people trapped dealt with that emotionally. It's hard for me to imagine people would deny that the death were real and go around killing people for fun. I mean, I guess there would be some but you'd think the others would put an end to that fast. I guess most people were just playing it safe and hoping for someone, in-game or out, to save them. I think I'm going to give Captain Earth and Knights of Sidonia a try after their first few episodes are out. I don't like watching anime once a week these days because you need a few episodes to decide if the show is good enough to continue or not.

Arc V is... fairly different.
Now it's all about Action Duels, essentially, the holograms are solid now so the players can interact with their monsters as well as find Action Cards scattered amongst the field. In these shows the characters always get the perfect card at the perfect moment, but by making them find them instead of drawing them it feels somewhat cheaper. It was interesting but I doubt I'll get very far. |

*Edit: Sorry I misunuderstood your question for an affirmation. :o Yes, it it subbed. |
Finally got to see episode 59 of Fairy Tail, Nirvana Arc is ending & shit's getting about as real as it can get with Fairy Tail's guild members, & as usual Happy has to keep Natsu airborne, also I basically CRIED at the Jerza scenes that the episode had, now I will watch episode 58, I had enough time to watch one episode before tuning in to watch my usual random as hell Toonami stuff :lol.

Checked out the first episode of Brynhildr in the Darkness as it was written by Lynn Okamoto (who did Elfen Lied - another of my faves). Another series that shows some real promise. It doesn't have the violence, gore and nudity that Elfen Lied had, but it still has a very similar element of mystery and set up a lot of of questions for the rest of the series.

Since nobody has bothered to sub Disk Wars on english, I got it with spanish subs, not the best subs around, but subs.
And, it's fairly formulaic kid anime stuff, the hotblooded kid and his distant scientist father, the loner, the younger kid and the girl. But everybody should watch it, not for the story but the cameos and the crazy as heck redesigns. I mean, just look at Iron Fist: http://i.imgur.com/N3oT2mh.jpg?1 LOOK AT HIM! :lolol :lolol :lolol :lolol :lolol :lolol |
Watched the first episode of Captain Earth, as that YuGiOh! Madoka crossover did nothing for me.
Captain Earth is very...what is the term...ah yes, "tryhard". It tries so hard to be intellectual, in the most irritatingly pretentious manner, that it becomes kinda retarded by proxy. It certainly doesn't help that it's painfully clichéd, it takes kinda going on an anime hiatus to realise that these shows are all VERY similar. If that wasn't enough, it's also borderline incoherent, especially towards the end of the episode. |

I have no clue either, and Yuya being the only one that gets it didn't help matters. |

Sailor Moon!
I'm watching Minako-er....Lita's introductory episode. You know, the dub isn't all that bad. Just.....mediocre. |

I never minded Yuma very much, the fact that Astral and he excelled in different areas of the game added something to their relationship. Then again I didn't watch much of Zexal. |

And yeah, I'm liking Yuya so far. I do like that he has a seriousness to him but the fact that he acts like a goofball just to put on a show balances it out kind of. |

I hope he remains as cool. |
Zeta Gundam 10-12
More moon battles! Hope they didn't step on an American flag yet. Its nice to see Bright again piloting a ship. Also, Fa and Kamille angst. SOOOOO MUCH ANGST. And Kamille still shows his rebellious and angry side although I feel like his sympathy now is better then it was earlier in the show. Wait, the glider for the Mark-II is based on the wing parts for the Zeta? Fucking badass! Its nice to know that plot element is being utilized very well along with the consistent development of technology. The atmospheric entry felt a lot more dynamic then the one from Mobile Suit Gundam, due to the chaos that went on in this large operation. Oh and we Lost Capricorn or what's his name. Jabi seems really affected.... again. But its a dick move to be shooting at pilots trying to enter the atmosphere, AEUG. The takeover of Jaburo was a pretty badass sequence and really showed the brutality of war and how well trained the AEUG are when confronted with Titans. Good thing Kamille has Newtype powers when the plot requires it so he could save Ensign Recocca and Kai! If those planes didn't have nuclear shields, everybody would have gotten cancer from that Nuclear bomb that destroyed Jaburo. This show is raising the stakes, destorying the headquarters of the former good guys a 1/4th of the way through the series is a ballsy move. |
I watched the first episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V and it was pretty lackluster. But then, I guess I shouldn't be surprised given this series has been going downhill since the original ended. This new series is just so childish. Even more childish than ZeXaL. Yu-Gi-Oh! is at its best when it is more mature with childish moments. This new stuff is crap. Worst of all, the episode did nothing to explain to me what this new Pendulum summoning is. Oh, and now the first person to play does not even get to draw a card. LAME!! The designs are dumb, but the worst is that stupid hippo. I thought the cards Judai used in GX were bad, but these are just awful. Overall, I give it a 3/10 and that is really just for the opening song. I may watch the next episode just to see if they actually explain Pendulum, but I don't know. If you are a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan and over the age of 8, do not even waste your time on this crap. If you like Beyblade and are 5, it might be for you.

There's also the whole card games is serious business mentality that's going on strong here. I really wished Ark V was gonna take a more laid back approach but if it's gonna be more of the same let's save the world by playing a children's card game BS, then I think I'm out. At least with the first series it made sense because you had the whole history repeating itself theme throughout. But I'm realizing that unless you present a good enough reason as to why the card game is interregnal to the plots, it does look a little silly. Needless to say, I think I'm done with Yugioh. I'll still probably play the card game whenever the android version of Ygo pro comes out though. EDIT: Reading up on pendulum summoning on the wikia and I still don't entirely understand how the mechanic works... |
From what I understand of Pendulum summoning in the card game, monsters have a scale from 1 to 12 and when placed in the zone with another pendulum monster allow you to special summon any number of monsters of levels in between the scale.
For example, Yuya's Pendulum s have a scale of 1 to 8, so once a turn, he can special summon any amount of monsters with levels in between from his hand. |

How been seeing yugioh it was doing a thing dark mature goofy dark mature goofy so this one even though it's the first episode I can see it getting darker. Reason for that is the fact bout where is yuuya dad. And stuff like. With anime people tell to watch more then one episode I say why if the first episode does not catch my eye the. Why should I force myself to watch it.
|
To be fair, yes, a lot of anime does not need to watched beyond the first episode. However, a show that is as formulaic as Yu-Gi-Oh! is pretty much pointless if the first episode or two do not get your attention. At least, the series that came after the original.
I gave up on GX around the 60 episode mark because I got really annoyed with Judai when he lost to Edo and then become all depressed and left the school over it. The show was not that great to begin with, but this seemed to just be the exact opposite to Judai's character just because he lost. Plus, they already did something like that in the 20s when Manjyome (at least, AI think that was his name) lost. 5Ds did start off slow, but once Yusei got out of prison things really took off. At least until they beat Godwin, which could have been the end of the series. The stuff that came after was hit or miss, but I felt the show lost something when Aki became a generic character and stuff. Thankfully, the show had a good ending that did not just cut off early so they wouldn't piss off the fans when their main hero lost. I made it through three episodes of ZeXaL before I turned it off. I really like the concept of the XYZs more than Synchros, but the animation looked so kiddy as if they replaced beyblades with cards. The characters were instantly annoying and Astral seemed to be a poor man's Atem. I did watch the final episode and even that seemed to be ripping off the Atem/Yugi duel, but with a stupid going to Astral's world not even 3 minutes later bit. UGH!! Arc-V is pretty much giving me the same feel as ZeXaL, which is not a good thing. I also cannot take the cards seriously and this is coming from someone who just started building a Ghostrick deck. |
Well my main kind anime focus is gonna be B-Daman Fireblast when it airs this Autumn on The Vortexx plus re-runs of Beyblade Shogun Steel. I still have nostalgic addictions to Beyblade & B-Daman.

People watch Vortexx?

That is a good one. The new voice to Sailor Moon sounds like she is holding her nose closed. |

Just finished reading the original Skull Man. It was really cool getting to read Kamen Rider's ancestor and finally read a manga Ishinomori did instead of just watching his shows. Skull Man was a pretty good little story. It had some nice artwork though some of the character designs were really similar to each other. The Skull Man design is cool in a very simple way, though he doesn't really look like a skeleton (this is something that the more recent SM series fixed and perfected). The story was fairly nice as well, though Skull Man's identity was obvious as all hell, and the twists at the end sort of come out of left field.
However that's really my only criticism with the piece; the story just gets a little too Shamalany near the end. Outside of that though it was a really nice read. I definitely want to read and watch the other two versions of Skull Man and see how they were done. |
