Finally.

Are we sure this has English subs?

Why? That would just mean it's for Japanese fans. The title is even in Japanese

Nice! I can finally actually watch this thing then

Feels good, man.
|
Nice! That'll be all the main series done before Taiga
|
Hope you guys like Red King cause Mill Creek apparantly making a blu-ray set of every episode he shows up in.
https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Kaiju-.../dp/B0BN2CWGMS The thing I'm most curious about is the episodes that where brought over in DVD. And as well as the show Mill Creek hasn't licensed yet. |

It did seem a little too easy for Decker to just Ultra Beam himself out of that situation...and then suddenly an influx of Sphere pop out. Luckily, Trigger returns to back up Decker!
So who the heck in GUTS-Select knows Kanata is Decker? Hanejiro is covering for him by saying he's in the infirmary, and it seems like Ichika is buying it, but Ryumon seems more suspicious than 100% sure, and then Murahoshi seems like he's trying to cover for him (and maybe Kaizaki too)? Like, how certain are the people who think Kanata is Decker? Why are so many classic Ultra Mecha on the moon...? Were TPU developing Mecha to to go into space? They went from King Joe Storage Custom to...classic King Joe? Also, of course the robot security force turns evil. Kengo still showing off his new reliable, mature, Senpai vibes and natural way of working in "Smile Smile." Although even Kanata can tell how he and Akito are. So, like, what are the Dark Giants doing now? Are they on Mars...? Man, Kengo is such a reliable Senpai! Making sure Kanata's family is okay, letting them know how Kanata is doing, and even transferring a message from them to his son which helps inspire Kanata while he's still struggling with what to do. When in doubt, just do what you believe in doing! Some solid Ultra Host action scenes! Were the Sphere studying Trigger to develop their own Ultra? Dang, Yapool didn't even get to finish his dying with pride line because the Sphere seemingly absorbed his identity. Then he just gets double Ultra Beamed to death. Ah, it's Yapool. He always comes back. Oh snap, human sized Decker and Trigger fight sequence! We're eating good! Does that count as Sphere Galactron? Even though it was just Galactron Mk. 2. ALthough they called it "The Sphere Judgementer," whatever the heck that means. Also is this the first Galactron episode since...Taiga, I want to say? But Galactron episodes are always great! When the Timer kicks in, that's when you know it's Final Form time! Especially with Kanata having finally found his resolve and reason to fight! Perfect chance for the team-up to use his theme song this time! We even get the Dual Blade with the power of Glitter Trigger card! I love how Ichika just yeets Hanejiro to find Kanata and Kanata's sitting in the bed with his gun under the covers. Also, Ichika pout. Kanata called Hanejiro his best friend! Hanejiro actually agreed! They even got along perfectly in the card segment! You gotta love it! Was not expecting a Ragon episode out of Decker. Has he even been in a Reiwa Ultra show at this point? |
Kanata and Hanejiro are such a wholesome duo. They finally got to agree on something in the Ultra Dimension Navi segment!
Wonder what the Sphere could be up to studying all that information, which we know is because they study advanced civilizations, but that moon base has a mecha graveyard going on. Standard size Ultra fights are always good to see, but the Galactron MK II Fight was also very nice. Which, we also got to see Kanata's parents, courtesy of Kengo, what a guy! If anyone knows how to (possibly) befriend a villain, it would be Trigger, Carmearra's ex-boyfriend. At this point, I'm pretty sure everyone, or almost everyone, knows Kanata's Decker. Nice Akito reference from Hanejiro. Next Episode: Creature from the Old Village: Ragon. |

- Surprisingly more classic Ultra Alien species in this movie than I expected. Not really anything Dyna inspired so far. - So instead of a returning Ultra guest we've got a new Ultrawoman, Dinas? It'll be interesting to see how she's related to Kanata and exactly what her Ultra form means. It looks so much like Decker yet it seems like it's color timer starts from red. |
Everytime Kengo shows up in Decker I?m, like, ?Wait a minute. Do they think we liked Kengo?!? Then by the end of his appearance I?m loudly proclaiming to everyone ?I always knew that guy was awesome!?
Seriously they made his transformation gimmick/gun so cool this episode. Haha. Never liked it the whole time I watched trigger, but now it?s pretty neat. I am glad to see they went back to this outfit for Kengo and not the Guts uniform from trigger. I will call this version ?punished Kengo.? Also Hanejiro: I?m nominating him for bro of the year right there. That whole segment with him frantically making excuses for Kanata was great. Here?s hoping they put the movie up on Ultraman Connection with english subs. I really did not mind paying to watch Episode Z. But if Tsuburaya wants to be really cool, they could put it out for free on youtube too. |
It seems they will be putting it up on Imagination and Connection

The current state of Ultraman for me:
I keep being entirely unfazed by Decker. There is some good stuff in there, for sure, but I just cannot muster myself to care for it. I get nothing out of watching this show. It's not bad, but I don't feel entertained watching it either. The thought of the next entry faring similar to it and Trigger makes me sad. Ultraman was an absolute blast for me until 2 years ago, every show was so much fun, but the "Remake Trilogy" is just not for me. I hope for something creative, refreshing and new after the inevitable Gaia remake finishes. Ultra Galaxy Fight on the other hand continues to be mindless enjoyment that makes me smile. It's simple, but that's all it needs to be. And I adore the Absolutians as villains, establishing a race that gained similar powers to the Ultra but use them for conquest instead of protection was a brilliant move. And designing them in primarily gold and black colors as opposed to the Ultra's silver and red is such an easy but effective visual sign to establish both as opposites, I love it. Still haven't seen Shin Ultraman, still hoping it will come to my local theater eventually. |

I appreciate Kanata's enthusiasm and vulnerability as a protagonist.

Ooh. I?m rubbing my hands together deviously if we are discussing Ultra protagonists. I?ll just stick to new gen as I have only seen Showa Ultra Q, and Ultraman (human host is an absolute dud in OG ultraman. Ide forever!!!) and Tiga (his name was madoka, right? Poor guy was a boy band mafia hostage. He probably was not allowed to be cool. He kinda sucked, lol).
Ultraman X - he was fine. The best part of that show, though, is that they let the team shine and carry focus in addition to the human ultraman host. Ultraman Orb is, like, the coolest man who ever lived. A top tier human protagonist in Ultraman Geed is fantastic for a good boy Ultra protagonist. A good shonen anime protagonist (Leito Zero is the best ultraman host. Don?t come at me. That dude is literally perfect!) I have to admit. I stopped watching R/B midway through. I think Rosso was better than Blue, but I really did not care one way or the other. Not when my man Aizen was shining like an absolute star, lol. Taiga and Ginga I have not watched. EDIT: oh my god. I forgot to put Z in here. That dude is the perfect ultra host. Haha, and I forgot him in my list. Wow. Haha. Don’t tell the police or they’ll arrest me for being a fraud here. (End EDIT) Trigger - oh boy. I hated that guy. Thankfully they had an absolute Stud come in to be Trigger Dark. Decker - he is fine. The show overall is good, but just missing something to make it must watch. Same can be said for the protagonist. But it?s a damn beautiful looking tokusatsu show. Should have put a hot take warning at the start. Look, if I said anything too controversial I will admit I am full of it and don?t understand what makes a show good or not, and nothing I said here is objective truth. Thank you for your time. |
I finally watched my copy of the Superior 8 Ultra Brothers movie on Blu-Ray yesterday and I got to say that its release is nothing short of fantastic and it is a pretty solid movie all around. Even watched a few more episodes of Ultraman Mebius as well with only seven episodes to go plus its two specials. I might even finish this series soon.

We're getting a DX Beta Capsule from Shin Ultraman and honestly its the first time I've been excited for an Ultraman transformation device in a long while

That Ragon jump scare tells me this would've been a great episode to air around Halloween. The scream even carried into the Opening!
It's fun getting a monster investigation episode with just the girls! Ichika with that youthful enthusiasm and Kaizaki the weary maturity of age. Of course Ichika says Kaizaki is still "young" when she's still feeling being 30... Ragon comes to "beautiful young women with pure hearts?" So basically Ragon is a Kaiju of culture? I love how Ichika took the compliment and Kaizaki felt so insulted she was excluded. She's plenty beautiful thank you very much! So Ragon worshippers are "Ragonites?" Good to know. I love how we're just establishing that every legend of a fish-like humanoid being is basically Ragon. I kind of want to see Ichika ride a bike. An unmasking!? Has this suddenly turned into Scooby-Doo!? I didn't think we'd get in-universe Kaiju suits... Man, Ragon looked kind of adorable in that flashback. So sealing up the ancient sea creature because he wouldn't fit in the current era...ends up releasing him in an era where he fits in even less and he's steaming from having been sealed up in the first place. Great job, Ragonites! Ah, classic Ultraman where the protagonist only really shows up just to transform and fight a Kaiju. I feel like the Ichika episodes are where Kanata takes a backseat the most. Ragon is so slippery Decker just can't get a bead on him. Although he's surprisingly powerful. He tanked an Ultra Beam and fired back like it was nothing! I get where Ichika is coming from, but I don't know if growing old and outliving all your loved ones is comparable to being separated from your loved ones because of a planet-wide quarantine. Also, what about what Ragon wants? And isn't Miss Urasawa liable for assaulting several people? I love how Decker saves the day with Miracle Type and we don't even explain what he did because Miracle Type. |
Haven't been talking much on Decker here, generally just been really enjoying the show, but wow, this latest episode really feels like something straight out of the Showa era. How it deals with a subset of the cast discovering a strange and eclectic mystery, just the overall way it was paced and directed.
Something I really have to give credit for Decker is how well it's been balancing between its episodic and serial plots. It's something I think the New Gen shows have somewhat struggle with, partly due to their lower episode count, but Decker has been doing a really great job at it. What helps is that the episodic plots, while disconnected from each other, all still contribute to the shows overall messages and themes. Like just in this ep, we're still commenting on the effect of the Spheres and how their actions have shaped both the world and the characters. |
Definitely agree with the Showa Mystery style episode that this was.
I don't have too much to say about it, but I did enjoy it. I especially love the crazy camera angles like the mirror displaying Ragon and Decker, that was a nice touch. Next Episode: More Spheresaurus! |

Last week's episode was very Sakamoto and this week's was very Taguchi. I appreciate the weird mystery style they were going for in this ep, part Ultra Q and part Lovecraft story. I think the episode probably would've been better if Decker wasn't in it at all though.
|
I straight up had to pause in the middle of this episode when they were talking about all the lovecraft stuff, so I could log on to this thread to say this is a special one. All the weird dutch angles, the scream at the beginning that went into the opening theme song, lol. Why the heck are their airing this in December and not Halloween time?!
If you watch some of those old Ultraman episodes, especially the ones directed by Jissoji Akio, you get a real appreciation for the directorial work that goes into these series. All we need is some extreme closeups on actors and we can get a proper Jissoji tribute going here. I don’t know why I don’t look forward to this show more, when they are capable of doing cool stuff like this. |
I appreciated we actually got to see Decker fly off at the end. I think that was maybe the 5th or 6th time he's actually done it on the show?

A P-Bandai set of Ultra Dimension Cards is due out next year.

While I recognise Sphere, the Capsule Monsters, Bemstar and Zetton, I’m afraid my memory’s failing me with the others. Can anyone help? https://hobby.dengeki.com/ss/hobby/u...DNGz9pFosw.jpg |
... huh. Well. Now my collecting feels like it's been a bit of a waste of time! Guessing they just won't release any of the new ones here at retail.
Very happy to see some like Justice and Ultraseven 21 though |
