I just found out about Mr Rogers' Neighborhood recently.

Why can't kids shows be like this now? We'd have more mature kids rather than kids who sit around and watch Elsa or Peppa Pig on YouTube all day.

I feel robbed. Give me my childhood back so I can redo it.

Wooooooow . . . . I know you live in Australia and all but it is still odd to me to hear that a native English speaking person has never heard of Mr. Rogers till now.

I was born in Philippines in 2002. I moved to Singapore and lived there for most of my childhood. I was on the brink of starting teenage life when I moved here to Australia, which meant I started losing interest in kids shows.

Naturally I wouldn't have heard of Mr Rogers.

Fred Rogers really was ahead of his time with his views on television and the impact it could have on children. If you really want to make a deep dive, I recommend watching the documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor" about the life of Rogers and how his show came to be.

There's also a semi biographical film called "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" where Tom Hanks plays Mr. Rogers. He's not really the main focus of the film but it's a good companion piece to the documentary.

I'll second the recommendation for "Won't You Be My Neighbor". It's enormously moving, and puts Fred Rogers' accomplishments ino context. Very smart, very sweet, just like Mr Rogers' Neighborhood.

(I was not as crazy about the Tom Hanks film. I found the focus on other characters to be less powerful, treating Fred Rogers like a magical elf that solved someone's problems. It didn't... I didn't find it as affecting as the documentary.)

I’m British and hadn’t heard of Mr. Rogers until recently either. Neighborhood either aired on a channel I didn’t watch/ have access to or wasn’t aired at all. If what I’ve just read on Reddit is anything to go by, it was the latter. :)
