An experimental reactor in an Ultra show? Those never end well. And using a Sphere carcass? We've seen this work out terribly a dozen times.
Oh hey, Kanata and Hanejiro with the recap guys! That looks fun! Living symbiotically with the Sphere? That's just one-step away from the old Sphere plan of consuming humanity into their "perfect" hive mind. It's almost comical how that guy was so certain of their perfect science and safety, tried to raise the level of the experiment too high and too soon, and then completely crumbled when things inevitably went bad from his own hubris. Sphere-Geomos! Not even just normal Geomos! Just straight up a Sphere Geomos! And he's as terrifying as ever! That's definitely one of the messier Nursedessei crashes. Actually, how many times has it crashed at this point? Although we did get to see them actually pick it up from the ground. "Enough with the technobabble!" Kanata talking for the audience. I get it's part of their plan, but the Sphere constantly reuses Spheresaurus just amuses me. Like, they're just so proud of that Kaiju! Ryumon getting to actually pilot! That's neat! Agams just casually handing Kanata ammo and Kanata taking was hilarious. Agams is all like "I didn't even do this, you guys brought this on yourselves. Classic human! Oh, did I mention how you destroyed my planet yet?" I knew they were going to do something with Spheresaurus because they hardly ever leave Kaiju as corpses anymore. The moment they mentioned that they were bringing in the Spheresaurus from the "Future Universe" I had a feeling they might be bringing a certain someone with them...and then the explosion shifts into a familiar Rise Sequence and Battle Theme. Woah Woah DYNAAAAAA!!!!! I want to see Asuka's reaction when he saw Terraphaser. Like I could totally see him thinking "not you again!" Decker and Dyna finally fight together! I guess we've had Trigger and Decker do the same form combos so they just straight up had Dyna use Strong (with a new transformation sequence!) and Decker Dynamic. But man was it awesome seeing them fight together! Wait, how did Kanata know who Dyna was? Decker never mentioned the name of the Ultraman from the future if I remember right. It's interesting that they had Flash Type use Strong Type's baseball throw finisher. Also a point blank Ultra Beam! Dyna just casually handing out Dyna and Tiga cards. So...Dyna was only an in-suit appearance, no Asuka. I mean, I think those were new Tsuruno grunts, but still. I guess that's consistent with Tiga in Trigger even if it's a little disappointing. I know they don't want Asuka to hijack the show or anything, but dang it I want to see Asuka! But I guess he'd give out all the exposition Agams would next episode. I still hope we can see him again. (Also I guess this means we'll probably just see Gaia and Agul as in-suit guest appearances next year) "The future isn't decided" is such an Asuka thing to say even if we didn't get to hear him say it. They just had to leave off on the double thumbs up! |
Bbbbbbbbaka mono ga!!! Nippon no kagaku wa sekai ichi!!
It's a very simple premise, you can see it going wrong in the first sentence of the preview. But the action really shines in these kinds of episodes. And Agams casually handing Kanata ammo was amusing. I always enjoy seeing the attack teams make plans to defeat the Kaiju and seeing how they recovered from their failed first attempt was nice. Also, some other TPU members participate is something I love seeing in an attack team, so it's not just the core cast members. Dyna even having faithful recreations of his animations (saying as someone who hasn't watched Dyna) to the point they make the effects no different from the 90s is really cool to see. And his fight alongside Decker, while expected and not the most mind-blowing thing ever, is still fun to watch all the same, but the thumbs up at the very end was truly what made it special. Next Episode: Showdown with Agams! The truth/future revealed! |
When was the last time we saw Dyna's Miracle Type Suit? I only ask because I wonder if they don't have a workable Miracle Type suit like they do Strong Type.

Blog post says it's going to be a 1 episode special
|
Wait, this is a second one? Before we've even gotten so much as a release date for the first??
Well... cool, I guess, more stuff; neat to see all the 'foreign' Ultras together |

Nothing sets up Agams' loss quite as much as seeing him with his beautiful wife and their adorable dog together, Agams so confident Decker and the Bazdo Defense Force would keep them safe and fend off the Sphere so they could go to Earth...and then suddenly the Sphere show up and take everything from him. Jeez.
Oh yeah, I guess Terraphaser being part Sphere actually better explains why all the monsters kept coming after it. They were reacting to the Sphere element. What would Agams have said about Kanata? That wasn't basically "Well...he's Ultraman Decker." Also, that slight at not mentioning Hanejiro! He's a valuable member of GUTS-Select! You helped make him! So basically Planet Bazdo got roped into fighting Earths' war against the Sphere because Earth remnants landed on Planet Bazdo and Agams vouched for them. And Bazdo paid the price. Now he's trying to change the future so that never happens. Makes sense. Decker and Dyna! Together again, in the future! We finally get double Miracle Type! Still no backstory on Asuka. Here's Chandlar! And....he's gone. Didn't even get to fight Decker! Agams is a humanoid-sphere hybrid now? Wow. Almost half expect him to go full Kaiju at this point. He even considers becoming the host for the Mother Sphere, it seems. Kanata has come so far that now he's basically the strong emotional balance between Ichika and Ryumon! And if they stop the Sphere here and now...maybe they can save Planet Bazdo in the future? It seems like the Sphere part is eating away at Agams' humanity until he's got nothing left but his memories of Laelia. That's what his mantra is for. Decker's final battle with Terraphaser! I love how a lot of the fight was just a straight up brawl with them throwing hands. We even got some symbolic Kanata vs Agams during it. Decker, you're supposed to aim for the cannon! Although I guess they were going for a beam cross counter type deal. But jeez, what a crater! And they kept fighting in it! Well, Ryumon saw Kanata de-transform, so there's no going back from that. But now Agams has amnesia? Is anyone buying that? Although it's probably a long-con one way or another to complete the Sphere's plan, which will come to fruition next week as we head into the final arc. |
This episode...
I figured Agams was making a bigger deal out of the Planet Bazdo incident, so no surprises there. But the Chandler fight was really fun, I just adore the fights where the Attack Team beats the Kaiju without the aid of Ultraman, just really gives them time to shine and show off why they exist (even thought that chase scene was a little inconsistent, but who cares). This episode then delivered an absolutely magnificent battle between Decker and Terraphaser. The ground shot through the destroyed alleyway was beautiful, then the pit fight was just fantastic. Ultraman knows how to make some great fight scenes, but the ones like this are something special. The moment I saw the Sphere bit disappear from his face I knew something was up, heck, I knew the fact that he was slowly going nuts due to the Sphere transition couldn't end well, meaning Kanata might just have the chance to save him. Next Episode: "So who's gonna tell him?" On another note, I need to watch The Destined Crossroads. Been putting that off on account of sickness for too long... |
Okay, what was that Decker? The one thing that made this show interesting, Agams possibly having a point by blaming humans for destroying his planet... that's it?!
The way he talked about it made me think Earth sacrificed Planet Bazdo to the Sphere on purpose, or like ravaged the planet for resources on their quest for universal colonialism, but what was actually happening - is that a human ship crashed on the planet, accidentally, the planet then decided to aid Earth on purpose and was thus targeted by the Sphere? Excuse me, what? In which stupid way did Agams end up blaming humanity for this? Instead of, you know, the freakin' Sphere? Or his own planet for aiding Earth in a war fully knowing what possible consequences might ensue? Like, what? Why? Also, his plan is stupid to being with: "Let the Sphere consume Earth fully and strengthen them! So that they eventually will find Bazdo anyways!". Yeah sorry, this was the last interesting thing Decker had going on and it went flying out of the window. This is what Kanata was beating himself up for? Man. I kind of prefer Trigger at this point, it has gotten this far. This is so dumb. On the positive side, effect work was stellar as usual; the shot in the destroyed alleyway with the leaking water was beautiful, as was the scene within the city crater at the end. It's just that I cannot really muster myself to gush over it as I would like when the whole story around it all is so stupid. |
Given the way the episode ended, as well as the setup for next week, I get the feeling there's more going on about Agam's motivation beyond what he says in this episode.

Logically we know that the Sphere probably would have attacked Bazdo at some point any way but to Agams Earth arriving on their planet and him vouching for them is what doomed the planet. It's not meant to come off as rational. The man is too wracked with vengeance and probably the Sphere in him to act reasonably. |

Also, gotta love the random dog. If losing his wife wasn't bad enough, a cute dog had to bite the dust too :lol Quote:

But yes, losing your hot wife and adorable dog does wonders on a person' psyche. Quote:
I mean, we also see humanity's faults when you see how all the experimentation (like with the Sphere Corpse in this episode) ends up biting them in a butt, but I feel like making them at fault for aggressive expansion doesn't really work in a story with the Sphere as the villains in my opinion. |
I'm starting to get caught up on shows now that work is no longer in overdrive and I am just now realizing that Decker's ultimate form is called Dynamic because he's the New Generation Dyna. I am bad at this.*
Anyway, I just watched the Dyna team up and while it was fun, Dyna just showing up out of nowhere and Kanata already knowing who he was felt really underwhelming. I don't love to give Trigger credit for... well, anything, really, but it definitely did a better job of working in its 90s predecessor. *It is entirely possible that I already realized this and then forgot that I had. |
Next year... New Generation Gaia
|
The new clip show for Ultraman has been revelaed and it dosen't seem to be Gaia based.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9So6sGZjB8k And if you look closely Zero has some sort of device. Presumeably the Dimensionizer from the trademarks. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkjseI3a...jpg&name=large |
It seems like this time there going to be more a plot for the clipshow.
In which someone erases the memories of the New Gen Heroes and it's up to Zero using his new device that was sent from the future to restore the memories/ history of the New Gen Heroes. https://m-78.jp/news/post-6586 |
Hmm, this is leading credence to some rumors about the next Ultra show after Decker.
If you're curious, the rumor is that the next show is both a Gaia and New Generation celebration. While the Ultra will be visually based on Gaia like Trigger and Decker before, the plot will be based on the Gaia movie, Battle in Hyperspace, wherein Ultraman is an in-universe tv show. |

If UGF3's uploads don't have a week off for some reason, that should be ending at the same time as Decker with the date they've given us here. Fun!

There was an old Hollywood Blacklist movie that was about modern day Knights of the Round table, and in addition to some actual warriors and heroes, one of the Knights in the film was just gonna be an actor or celebrity that had been Knighted by the queen. I always loved that idea and I think we could have something very similar here with Ultraman if that rumor is true. |

It never got made. It was on some list of great scripts that everyone in Hollywood knew were good, but nobody wanted to pay for the movie. I called it a “blacklist” but that was probably wrong
Apparently a lot of the knights were goofballs, but the big hook for me was that Sir Michael Caine was supposed to play himself as a knight in the movie. Here’s some website that reviewed the script. The movie was titled “Roundtable” but again, as far as I know it never got made. https://www.firstshowing.net/2008/sc...e-comedy-epic/ So, yeah, do that with ultraman. |

Good news! They've finally apprehended Agams! Bad news, he has amnesia! Meaning he's potentially an even bigger ticking time bomb than he was before!
Kanata's secret identity is carried so hard by other characters. I realized Agams' amnesia was genuine because he probably would not have spilled the beans to Kanata about Mother Sphere or talk about Laelia so casually like that if he was, so this really was Agams before everything went wrong. Although there was kind of a sinister undercurrent even if it was knowing what he becomes and how twisted his ideals became, but also sad to see what he was and how well he and Kanata get along. I see Kanata finally understands that sitting around doing nothing, won't get us anywhere. Even if you stumble and make mistakes, it's still better than doing nothing. So all Agams needed to get his memories back was seeing some Sphere flying? That was a tad...anti-climactic. And probably one of the shorter amnesia plots. Could the Sphere form random Sphere Kaiju out of thin air the whole time? Because they probably should've brought this out earlier because even Dynamic Type could only defeat three Sphere Kaiju by the skin of his teeth...and even then that leaves him too weak to fend off Terraphaser. Oh hey, Trigger! And he gets to epically charge at Mother Spheresaurus as she makes her dramatic debut! I'm sure that'll go well! Y'know, I like Marluru and Hotta, but this...really doesn't feel like the time for a clip show. |
One thing I know for sure: Unless Agams pulls something spectacular by the end of this, he's definitely wasted potential....
The whole amnesia arc felt kind of pointless? I was hoping for something more, but there's still so much more that could make Agams a great villain, and they downplayed him hard. Now if say Earth abandoned Bazdos or Earth just gets beaten when they talked big about beating the Sphere in the future, or even Agams is just got possessed by the Sphere after they blew up his homeworld, that would have been much better, but as it stands now, he'll have to truly impress me in order to spare him from being below the Dark Giants (who were already better villains than the Sphere). Rant over. But the action was still good. And Ryumon sending Asumi off to fight the Sphere Monsters was a good scene and is nice to see instead of "how did you know I was Ultraman?" route. It's just a shame we have to wait for a recap episode right before the finale... Also, Mother Spheresaurus looks really darn cool. Next Episode: As much as I don't like having a recap episode right before the finale, I strangely like the premise of the Recap people reacting to the impending doom. |
I'd say Decker is handling the special recaps episodes a lot better than Trigger, which had 2 recaps back-to-back after the first 4 episodes, which kinda dented the shows early momentum. Here it feels like the recaps are spread more evenly. I think what also helps is the presence of Marluru and Hotta. They give the episodes so much more personality and character than your bog standard recap episode, to the point I legit enjoy watching the episode

Other than that, I really need to get around to The Destined Crossroads... |
Managed to grab a ticket to a UK subbed showing of Shin Ultraman, in a couple weeks, so that should be fun!

A new Ultraman trademark popped up.
https://twitter.com/tmark365/status/1607906695686258688 I've seen this be translated as either Ultraman Blazer or Ultraman Blazar |
It's just gonna be an Ultraman with a blazer on debating with aliens and kaijus for three intense minutes and the collectible items will be neckties. :lolol

I officially have tickets to a screening of Shin Ultraman. It's dubbed, which I'm normally not into, but my friend couldn't make the subbed showing. That said...I'll probably go to the subbed version as well. I just haven't gotten tickets for it, yet.

Interestingly, though, I think those words are usually written as ブレザー, so I wonder what the significance of extending the レ is, if any? ブレーザー |

That sounds nothing like a New Generation Gaia, but I won't be surprised if it still is. However, if it's actually a new Ultra, entirely unrelated to the TDG Trilogy, I'd be absolutely down for it! |

In this recent Decker recap, Hotta brain breaks from getting info dumped about Ultras from other dimensions, as well as learning that bureaucracy doesn't stop during a world ending crisis.
|
So I'm caught up on Destined Crossroad now and I really love how the team sent to infiltrate the Absoultian homeworld is made up of Ultras who were either the second hero on a show or who only showed up in brief cameos. Xenon got more screen time in this one ten-minute episode than he did in all of Max
