Carnage would not work at all without being rated R. I know some kids would be upset that their parents won't let them see it. I rather have something be done right than water it down to be more family friendly. |
Sony should do an adaptation of Maximum Carnage.
Like, completely forgo all origins and explanations. Just drop viewers off into the who thing. "Who the hell is Demogoblin? I thought it was Green Goblin" "Who is this Shriek chick?" "What the fuck is going on with this 4 armed evil Spider-Man!?" |

It's that they seem to be more focused on being "diverse" first and less concerned about being, you know, good. Where the goal is to make controversial headlines rather than actually tell good stories. It's the same reason most Christian-targeted media is garbage. The message comes first, writing quality be damned. Fuck, half the time they can't even get the theology right, but that's a rant for another board and time. |
I'm glad Marvel is taking a creative shift to focus more on superheroism rather than political commentary.
I was getting sick of having every character being reintroduced as another race/gender simply for needless diversity. Also, a big complaint was that the writers' were letting their political standings slip way too deep into the comics, so everything basically became "Feminism and anti-Trump" for the past few months. Not being super big into Marvel lately, I don't really know how much of that is true, though. |
It's not so much as Marvel fans fear political commentary; it's just that Marvel is too SJW for their own damn good. No author can get away with forcing their options down their readers' throats 24/7 and Tumblr should just shut up and realize that while people want diversity almost no one wants to be Tumblr style socjus crap.
They can blame readers all they want; they'll just go find other comics to read. Who reads a superhero comic for characters saying white people/cis/males are terrible? |

If DC can make the Joker work in PG-13 then Sony can make Marvel's crappy Joker clone work in PG-13. |
I don't buy Marvel being too SJW as comics were always political. Captain America was made by 2 Jewish people out of their frustration America didn't want to help fight Germany in WWII. There are PSAs of Batman and Superman telling you to treat people equally even if they have different religions, genders or skin colour. X-Men is LITERALLY anti-bigotry and Black Panther was only made because Jack Kirby realized there were no black people in comics period

Also, I remember seeing a while back they made the Bombshells from Ultimate into stereotypical tumblr trash by shouting trigger warning and shit. And again, stuff like Civil War II weren't well received in the slightest either |

Hell, the goriest thing Carnage did during his first appearance was to write "Carnage Rules!" on a wall using his own blood. That Carnage can easily be adapted with the same ratings as all the other Marvel movies since the level of violence is about the same. Of course a movie featuring Carnage could benefit a lot from an R-rating, don't get me wrong, but saying a PG-13 Carnage would be "god-awful" when he was exactly that in the first place is stupid. It can work. |
Also, you can still be pretty violent without an R Rating. Case and point Kamen Rider. Ouja is a character in a kids show, a serial killer who brutally murders people and recently beat the everloving shit out of Emu (Ex-Aid but not transformed) with a metal pipe and dumped his face in chemicals. It can be toned down, it just depends on how badly. Again 90's Spidey was actually surprisingly good with Carnage, he's still a maniac who wants to kill

I just remembered something
Venom. Venom's been VERY toned down in lots of appearances but he's STILL a fan favourite, and Deadpool's proven to be capable of being popular despite but toned down on the killing part |

Personally I don't mind PG-13 on a single condition, they manage to be subtle with their stuff whereas it's still horrifying |
Carnage was always a very dark character and they could do something more dark and deeper with character at a R rating. R rating does not always mean blood and gore to the max. They could be rated R for the themes in the story due to the subject matter.

The 90's Spider-Man show was produce by Saban and Saban always had strict censorship rules on Fox Kids. I remember the Punisher having laser guns too (The Punisher is a character that should stay out of these type of shows without failing terribly).

There's also the fact that they couldn't show anyone getting killed, and if it happened they got sent to another dimension or it happens off screen. And the fact that they had Morbious, a vampire that couldn't drink blood out of people's necks...and the fact that they couldn't even say blood. |

Carnage is deep the same way every edgy 90s character was. |
I think part of what makes Carnage appealing is his cackling glee.
He was a psychotic serial killer, and he still is a psychotic serial killer. He's not complex, but he doesn't need to be. He's a roadblock to overcome. He's not really a good villain in terms of character, but he's effective in terms of character morality, threat, and action pieces. He's a 90's character through and through, but he's infinitely more memorable for reasons unknown to me. Not being a character with teeth constantly grit, always a stern expression across his face, or trying too hard to be cool, I think he can serve as a decent antagonist in a movie if they remember to keep the charisma he has as a gleefully insane killer. |

I don't think the show is awful, but I feel like it has not hold up as well to me. It had a good start and became hit or miss later on. I have a lot of nostalgia for the Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons as a kid, but I can admit that they are not great. At least it is better than X-Men Evolution which I hated back when it was brand new.

Until Iron Man, Blade, X2, and Spider-Man 2 were kind of the only watchable Marvel movies. And X2 isn't even all that good when you look back on it. |

I see some people say that the first Iron Man movie does not hold up well now. I need to rewatch it since I have not seen it when it came out on DVD (I did saw it in theaters on opening night).

Out of the Phase 1 MCU films, I actually think The First Avenger holds up a lot better I ended up enjoying the first Cap a lot more. |
