Watched the first 13 episodes of Battle City today of Yu-Gi-Oh!. I left off after finishing the Pandora episodes, which is one of my favorite duels of the arc due to the constant use of magic cards. It is just so epic when both of them play off of each other and even after both Black Magician's are destroyed, they both had Monster Reborn to bring them back.

Giving Fate/Zero a rest and watching Appleseed XIII.

The end of episode 4. She rocks. And she's a little scary.

Zeta Gundam 28 and 29

28 was again, another breather episode. We just get a taste of how creepy Scriocco is and his creeper moments with Sarah. I understand Kamille is worried about Reccoa, but she's a grown woman, who is known to go on these types of missions, so I don't think he should have made such a fuss about it. Oh come on, do we really need Quattro to leave again? We just got him back and I wanted to see some Hyaku Shiki action.

29 was a double whammie the major even of this episode was the titans trying to gas one of the Side 2 colonies. The fuck Titans? Even our "good Titan" Jerid acts with no emotion about this. You're supposed to be protecting people, not killing them. That little weasel of a mayor needs to get exposed sometime soon, because I think he could have caused more damage to the colony then necessary.

Also, go Katz, being a hero, going out in a Nemo and destroying that G3 gas tank. granted, I'd be scared as hell going out into the weakest mobile suit rather then a jet with maneuverability but good for him.

And the second major event? Fa naked. No seriously, it changed Kamille and made him grow as a person. I felt really bad for him because here's his childhood friend standing in a towel nearly naked and he's in a space suit (which is physically restrictive) most likely having a really bad boner. "I'd dock my Zeta Gundam in your Argama, if you know what I mean." (Kamille never says that but I came up with that).

I can never understand Fa and Kamille's relationship. They were neighbors and Kamille was raised by her, but from what he said to Four, he should hate her. He bickers with Fa all of the time, kind of like how when I was a child I talked to my bullies and we were both shit to each other. Yet they embrace each other and hug and kiss occasionally? And now we have thier sexuality thrown into the mix? Pick a relationship type and stick with it.

Kamille's growth at this point in the story feels very stunted, although its his interactions with Fa not developing causing that feeling.

so i was looking up the episode list of Card Captors ( Card Captor Sakura for the fellows you know it by that name ) and i learned that the english dub cut out 31 episodes out of all 70. so i thought i might as well watch all of Card Captors again but subbed so i don't miss any episodes.

The english dub tried to make the male lead of the show the main character instead of the female lead, Sakura, as a way to attract a young male audience.

As a result, the story's different and episodes are either mixed around or totally cut. It was horrid.

Build Fighters 02.

The best part of Build Fighters is that it shouldn't be as good as it is. It seems almost like an obvious concept, but it's so simple it's kinda brilliant. 'Why not literally make the show a toy ad, but put in just as much effort into it as any other show'? All Gundam is about selling shit, but rather than a pretentious pseudo intellectual space opera, it's literally just Beyblade with Gundams.

The idea that it has battles to rival the best of them, with stunning animation and a wonderful soundtrack but is actually about kids building plastic models - and the quality of the build is actually a story factor - it's just really really fucking clever in my books.

Up to episode 8 of Angel Beats!

Episode 6 definitely gave me some feels. But up until the end of episode 7 I honestly felt it to be generally predictable. Like Angel (maybe?) not actually being evil but just misunderstood. Saw Yuzuru getting interesting in her coming from a mile away. But it is indeed a pretty enjoyable show.

Well thanks to Talisman, I'll be starting Ronin Warriors soon making this the first time in about a year I'll watch something I've never seen before anime wise.

Is that supposed to be an insult to the other Gundam series or not? Because I can't tell. But yeah, Build Fighters sounds like a really fun spin-off. I hope this show gets a lot more people into Gundam because that fanbase is shrinking every year Bandai entertainment America isn't around.

Insult is too strong a word. I've just never much liked the style of anime that shows like Gundam Wing embody which is why I have never gotten much into the franchise. G-Gundam and now Build Fighters are just better to me because they drop all the unnecessary pretence.

From what I see you like, its a minority of Gundam's work that you like. Wing is very pretentious specifically, although I don't know if you're just using that as a one off example.

Wing is the only Gundam series I've seen at any length other than G and Build. But I've watched bits and pieces of other series but saw them going pretentious pretty early and swiftly bowed out.

Well, I guess the majority of Gundam's content is not for you then. Gundam is about the evolution and maturing of humanity, what it means to settle conflict and using war to find out how people truly are. If those concepts sound super pretentious to you, then probably most series will be to you because they potray these ideas in such epic and grandiose ways that I could see it being pretentious.

I just find a lot of anime pretentious if I'm honest, not just Gundam. I used to be into anime in a big way when I was a kid, but as I got older I started to notice all the cheap little devices anime used to come across as more intelligent than it really is. I'm not saying that anime can't be intelligent, or though provoking but shit like this, is intelligence as penned by a fourteen year old child.

Ah, Evangelion. SO SUBTLE.

Evangelion is the Kamen Rider Faiz of mecha anime. Most regard it as the best show if its kind ever while other people find it trash. And there's that minority of people that like it but see its major flaws. But in no way are either of them subtle intentionally.

Let's call the villains "angels" and "Adam's fifteen children" oh my God we're so deep.

I like it, just not all the pointless symbolism.
Let's make Lilith look exactly like her creepy clone daughter who has her soul too, oh God were perfect. Let's give the main character an Oedipus complex, it'll be great.

Maybe it's the Japanese equivalent of Westerners throwing in zen koans and other Eastern Theological stuff into media to sound "deep and cultured." :rolleyes

Yeah. Just because you add unneeded symbolism, tons of references that only fanatics will get, and rather disturbing implications, doesn't mean you get a good show.

Evangelion tried too much. It went overboard in its "message" and just did too much so wrongly. Seriously, who wants to see naked 14 year old girls with unrealistic proportions scream about how much they want to die?!

You know what annoys me about anime?

Whenever a female character gets pissed at a male character and beats the shit out of them (with or without wacky object) and its played for laughs. Its like the writers are just saying to me, "Isn't that soooooo wacky and hilarious?"

NO MOTHERFUCKER. Comedy is not as easy as that (If you want a perfect example of this terrible trope in action, see the girl who beat up Bravo in episode 25 of Gaim). A situation by itself without and cleverness or uniquely character driven action within it should not just make easy comedy, you lazy writers.

I can handle Gundam's pretentious nature but god damn that shit kind of shit I mentioned above annoys me so much.

Actually that isn't true, all the episodes have been dubbed in the Cardcaptors version. The only major changes in terms of story are the names of the characters and toning down the romantic elements. I honestly prefer a lot of the changes in the dub to the original japanese version... but that's just me. :lol
