What baffles me about Evangelion is that it's been around for ages…it's got this huge following all across the globe.

And yet they keep constantly recycling the same stories over and over again.

I know that the new Rebuild movies introduce a new character but still…I'm amazed that Eva's been around for so long and yet they only seem to be interested in doing retellings.

Why not just make a new series?

Rebuild is a reboot that tries to make Eva seem more like a regular mecha anime, but doesn't really succeed. If they were to make a new series, it would probably be like the last one but with "Archangels" or something falsely symbolic.

Oh and why they don't make a new series. Because Evangelion is ridiculously popular for one series and Gynax wouldn't want to have it any other way. If they made a successor or new series that had a different plot, they view it as a risk that could ruin the insane amount the get from currently existing stuff. That and Anno is crazy so..... yeah.

Well that's only the original airing. The fixed it in future releases and broadcasts, point is all the episodes have been dubbed in english under the Cardcaptors name.

At least Gundam's pretentiousness makes sense since it talks about society and war as a whole along with individuals. Eva just throws aliens at you with a fucked up look at these characters and expects deep meaning.

This doesn't make any sense. Rebuild practically IS a new series now. It might have started the same but now the story couldn't be much further from the original. It's hardly recycling, and even then this is only the second thing animation there's been since the original.

Also, this stuff is hardly Anno's MO outside of Eva so it's not really comparable to Urobuchi who does this throughout his work.

Anybody here watched the Patlabor anime?

I loved it as a kid, and have considered a rewatch in many occasions, but I would like to have somebody's opinion on it.

I saw the movies first two movies and loved the hell out of them.

I'm gonna go against the tide here and say Evangelion is my favorite anime.

Pretty sure that isn't against the tide. Now maybe saying it's the best anime ever and that it was flawless is against the tide, but your personal favorites are your own and shouldn't have to conform to what a general opinion is.

I meant against the tide of negativity towards the series on this thread lol. But yeah, I love the series. It's a confusing mess at times, but that never really bothered me, since I just find it so enjoyable to watch.

I've seen a small amount of it (one episode and a few clips here and there) but really enjoyed all of it. I've been on a mecha kick the past few days so I might watch it soon. Gonna finally start Code Geass tonight, and have been trying to decide between Patlabor, Votoms, Voltron (or one of the shows it's made up of), New Getter Robo, or maybe something else after. Any suggestions?

Geass first season is great you are in for a treat, I'm not a big fan of the second one but most people enjoyed it.

Besides what little I remember of Patlabor, I haven't seen any of those shows, but I've heard great things about Votom.

I gotta check out the TV series sometime because supposedly that's a lot more comedy driven.

From what I hear, it's basically office life with mecha. I liked what I saw of the show in the movies though, compared to Gundam they take a very down to earth approach.

Code Geass is a great show, but a flawed one. THe first season feels too much like Gundam SEED while the second season could have been done in 15 episodes. Nevertheless, the ending makes the series well worth it.
