It's 2016. Gay marriage is legal now. Back in the 90s it was illegal in several states to be gay and gays were an easily targeted minority back then and often thought of being equal to pedophilia. The 2000s and early 2010s changed all of that. Gay marriage is now the law of the land and many states have recognized legal protection of gay people. If we don't have a gay ranger by 2020 then that means the higher ups in Saban's company is highly homophobic or they are afraid of taking chances.

I'm gay. And as much as I would love to see an openly gay character as a ranger, I'm okay with there not being one. My reason? Because they'll try to use the stereotypical flaming gay guy, or the overly butch lesbian. They would over exaggerate the entire thing. Just like how they don't have an openly mentally disabled ranger, they would go about it horribly. As I said, I'm gay and I'm cool with them not having one. I would love it, but I don't expect it.

You keep saying this, but I don't think anyone is pro-gay male pink ranger to begin with. No one is associating that colour with a character but you.

See, the main issue here is that the original poster is still stuck on the same idea that gay+pink equals stereotype. The only way that could be a reality is if the writers make it that way. I know men who wear pink. I know gay men who wear pink. Do they behave like the flamboyant stereotype? Hell no. So you know what, I'm in full support for a gay Pink ranger. And who knows, maybe they'll portray the stereotype or they'll be the biggest badass children have ever seen. All depends on the writer.

That's not true. I know gay people that wear pink as casually as anyone may wear black. COLOR MEANS NOTHING! Hiw is this any different from saying that it would enforce a stereotype? You are claiming a male pink would need to be straight and the leader to be taken seriously. That is selling a gay person shirt, honestly. Like saying they can't be taken seriously or be a badass unless they are a certain way. That is just as bad as what you are against. Pretty ironic.
