Nah, all this stuff will be done with by the end of the year. At least, the corresponding toys will. (Not sure if actual spoiler? It's all catalog stuff really but who knows). |
Well well, I gotta say, very interesting first impressions. Pretty solid first Episode. I couldn't help but LOL all throughout this Episode at just how much this show has ABSOLUTELY NO CHILL with the videogame motif it has. Heck, even the sponsor break shows off Mighty Action X being played by Ex-Aid Lv. 1!!!
Making this show centered around doctors really gives it an interesting, unique vibe. Seriously, there are barely any toku shows that delve into something like this, and I like it!!! I know alot of people are saying they're getting Gaim vibes from this, and so am I, but I'm feeling like this will more than likely become a story of its own. Now, if there's ONE thing I have to complain about the Episode.....it was the first fight w/ Lv. 1 vs the CG Dinkleberry Bugstar. I always figured Lv. 1 would mostly have CG fights, but THIS....Ehhh....I will say though, this clears an issue I had with Ex-Aid's cameo in Ghost. Now we know where the random boxes come from, and it makes TOTAL SENSE now: it's part of the Mighty Action X game, and when activating the Gashat, it's pretty much playing that game. Now, the Lv. 2 action was where it was at! I loved his hammer action, and honestly, I wish that was the main way he used the Gashacon Breaker, since Brave is gonna be the sword user later on. And I really like how after Ex-Aid wins, the Gamer Driver declares that he "cleared the game." I'm really curious as to how him beating all 10 of those other games works, since some will be used by other Riders. The main protagonist Emu seems standard-ish, but I like that he's a klutz at everything but gaming. Hopefully he shows to have some character development later on. Two things that caught my eye in this Episode, though, that could mean potential things for the way the show might go: 1. The Gamer Driver developer claims that a tragedy occurred 5 years ago.....which matches the announcement date of Mighty Action X....HMM..... 2. Speaking of the development of Mighty Action X, did anyone other than me notice the logo for the people that developed it? "GENM Corporation?" HMMMMMM......Kamen Rider Genm is most definitely working with these guys. Either it's the Graphite Bugstar, or Kuroto Dan, the company's president. This show shows a lot of promise, and I can't wait to see how it shapes up. |
I'm going to watch it again tomorrow and do a video review on it, but here are my initial impresions:
So this is what Scott Pilgrim would be like as a Kamen Rider. Every scene that dealt with the human stuff sucked. The slapstick was unfunny and this guy is way too young to be a doctor. The monster being a pile of shit was exactly how I would describe this episode. Horrible CGI. They really just need to stick with suits and real stunt work until they can actually afford proper CGI. On the other hand, the stuff when he transformed was kind of cool as it did make me think of No More Heroes and a bit of MegaMan. The girl is super annoying and the other doctor dude has really creepy eyes. |

Edit: Oh nevermind, I guess he is supposed to be. I hadn't watched it fully subtitled yet; was just going off the pre-show info we had heard. Ignore me. |
Emu is an intern which makes a LOT more sense if age is an issue
My first impressions: I'm hooked. We already know a lot about Emu's personality. If his clumsiness is the 'lolrandomhumour' like Onari's excessive screaming was, then I'm glad because I'm also clumsy so it's pretty nice to see the main character is a goof. He's also good with kids and it's actually very sweet how he told that kid that Mighty is simply fighting the final boss in his body, which again shows he knows how to connect with kids. The debut fight? Outstanding, the only thing I didn't like was how Level 1 has official stats that are higher than Level 2, Masked reference aside. I like the shitty CGI blob monster, because FUCKING YELLOW DEVIL DOESN'T DESERVE A DECENT DESIGN. The best of all: The Buttobasoul coins looked to me like they would be shoved in our faces like Shift Cars and Eyecons, but no, only 1 and it didn't get that much spotlight. Phenomenal first episode |

But yea, a pretty solid first episode! Hopefully the series will keep up with the effects this time unlike past seasons. Who knows, maybe the fact that they're using "KAPOW!" effects instead of spark powder will save some money. Also, I don't really mind the CGI Level 1 Bugster, since I kinda expected the Level 1 ones to be relatively simple (so that they can save money on that). |
Saw it, loved it. Pray to god the budget holds up. The idea that the driver generates the levels is genius and when he blew in the cartridge before the finisher..... I loved it (even more so that it was done by the actor on his own and the production team just went with it). I always find it nice to have a Kamen rider who kicks butt right from the start instead of doing a OOO's, the fact that since the main rider IS a video game character that our hero is familiar with really helps me settle in with the whole concept. Can't wait for next week!
