I don't think he confused the two at all. Spielberg had a early hand in shaping the first Movie. I don't know he ever handled the rights exactly, but definitely a big part in getting in on it's way.

Those people will always view Power Rangers as a joke. Hell, much of the same multicolored spandex-wearing superhero community (Marvel/DC) sees Power Rangers as a joke.

No acquisition will change that. Even if Power Rangers becomes the next Marvel Universe, it's still going to carry that stigma.

Instead of trying to earn respect of others that frankly don't give a shit, people should just like what they like and not give a damn about what others think. Trying to make someone who doesn't like something like it artificially can have drastic effects as to what makes that thing at it's heart, what defines it.

And this goes for any franchise.

I kindly disagree on the part that people's opinions cannot be changed. People outside of comic fans used to view Captain America as silly, but now he's one of the most revered superhero of all time. I just want Power Rangers to receive that level of respect, meaning Hasbro would make them appeal to everyone.

But yes, they should not pander to the ones that don't really care (because it would be disastrous). Just do things that attracts both fans and newcomers.

To continue on that, in the popular eye, Batman was once seen as one of the corniest and homoerotic superheroes of all time.

Opinions can be changed when the property that is striving to subvert those opinions are done well.

Don't be surprised if your beloved franchise doesn't get the respect you think it "deserves."

Steven Spielberg has been an executive producer for all of the movies. Now, how much influence or input he actually had on any of them is questionable, but I would assume his presence is why Hasbro made the original deal in the first place.
