For the moment, I'm very willing to dismiss this all outright, or assume that its a part of the plans that have ALREADY BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR A THIRD SERIES. Why would TOEI be putting out ads in Thai first for their brand new show even though they've been extremely tight lipped about it?

My thoughts:

1. Toei annouced a third show, for that show to be a new show that focuses on legacy sentai feels pretty on-brand. (Though this could be totally unrelated and just a much smaller thing TBH)

2. WHY in the ACTUAL WORLD would TOEI start a NEW SHOW about a FAILING BRAND!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

3. Everything else, together. "We are announcing a new 3rd show" 2 months pass: "We are cancelling 2 shows and making a show based on one of the shows we cancelled"

This fandom drives me friggin' crazy sometimes. If Sentai just got cancelled to introduce *checks watch* Sentai, i will mail you each 10 dollars and an apology. Bookmark this post.

If Toei were to rebrand the franchise, it would likely still have to go through Hasbro to sell it overseas. Especially if they use Sentai iconography to market it.

Yeah none of this makes any sense to me. If that's the reason why they are changing the name how is that going to permit marketing the show abroad (especially in North America)? While perhaps they can avoid Hasbro, there are still several issues to consider:

1. Hasbro could still file copyright infringement based on its similarity to Power Rangers.

2. How would this new incarnation of the show address its past? Will it have to focus solely on the Sentai seasons that were never incorporated into Power Rangers?

3. How would they differentiate between this new incarnation from the old one? Will we have to say goodbye to the mecha/robots?

4. How would this series even be marketed to audiences outside of Asia?

5. If the show does manifests and comes to the U.S. will Bandai be releasing the toys? How can they do so without stepping on the toes of Hasbro?

6. Could Toei avoid a copyright claim if they allow Hasbro to distribute the toys?

No problem. It's a weird situation. For now, let's just wait and see what happens, yeah?

Exactly. It's going to take more than a name change to make it internationally marketable. I think the presentation is going to change in a big way.

The mecha are the main selling point, so I'm actually convinced that's the one part that will stay the same. It's not even a Sentai-exclusive thing, since they were around in Metal Heroes and of course, Leopardon was the first.

Depends what Hasbro have planned for this rumored PR reboot happening next year. If it's true, then it's interesting that both of these changes are concurrent.

Not sure, but I recall Bandai Japan also handles merchandise for Tsuburaya's rival show, so maybe it's possible for Toei to work with Bandai for Rider and Hasbro for "Whatever Sentai" if it comes to that.
