Well I finally finished reading the Sailor Moon manga for the first time since Tokyo Pop released it and I have to be honest, it was not as good as I remembered it. I love the world Naoko built, and her characters are interesting, but the pacing was just awful and there was little to no development for anyone outside of Usagi and Mamoru. Hell, the villains seemed to be there just to have a reason for the series to have a conflict as only Nehelenia seemed to receive any sort of development whatsoever. I want to say the designs are great, but a lot of the villains were only in small panels and you rarely ever saw their entire body in one go with detailed view that they sometimes started to just blend in. Hell, I couldn't even keep track of the last batch of Galaxia's minions because they all looked the same. Sans the Amazoness Quartet and Kaolinite, the minions usually died within a few panels it made me wonder what the point of the Witches 5, the four Sisters, and the Amazon Trio was.

Even the sailor guardians seemed quite under developed. For example, in the Black Moon Family arc each member of the team was kidnapped in each chapter, so half of the arc had everyone by Usagi missing. The motives of some of the characters seemed inconsistent as well at times. For example, in one chapter Rei is talking about that she is finally going to be going to school with everyone now that they are going to the same high school. Then one of the chapters in Stars has Rei talking about how she wished she had gone to the same high school as them. WTF?

The pacing was absolutely horrible though and it made me wonder if the manga really did just exist as a reason for the anime to do so. Stories would move at such a rapid rate at times and then just suddenly drag on in other places it was distracting and confusing. Even the ending was convoluted. Also, the Starlights revealed themselves way too quickly and Sailor Moon's upgrades were done before you could even get used to the current one.

Now I do love the fact that the manga featured more of Saturn than the anime did, as she is my favorite character, but she seemed quite weaker in the manga for some reason. The artwork at times was gorgeous and I do love the world that Naoko was building up. The idea of a crystalized future city was pretty awesome. In fact, I wish we got more stories that dealt with the future. I also loved that the Amazoness Quartet did return in Stars and the truth behind Chibi Chibi makes so much more sense than in the anime. Another thing I loved is how everything was connected to one another. Chaos was the reason for Metallia, Pharaoh 90, Death Phantom, Nehelenia, while Nehelenia was the reason the Dark Kingdom was able to destroy the Moon Kingdom in the first place, and the Wiseman was the one who gave Galaxia her abilities.

Unfortunately, it seems like everything that was done well in the manga was held back by two things that were poorly executed. Naoko can't write a villain for crap and it shows. The ending itself also felt rushed and the series could have used just one more epilogue chapter instead of cramming the wedding and stuff into the last five pages. Overall, I give the manga 6 crying Usagi's out of 10.

Which is very true in Sailor Moon's case. The rushed pacing is mostly the publisher's fault. Naoko Takeuchi has even stated that she had to drop some of her concepts (like the Senshi/Shitennou couples we got in Crystal and the first musical or Pluto's feelings for King Endymion, also shown in the musicals), because there was no time to add them.

So hopefully crystal going to fix these issues to become deviant ive version

I could do without the Pluto love plot with Endymion when it is pointless as that makes Mamoru a total dbag.

So theory is we are saying Naoko is bad character writing when in thory it was not her fault that after drak Kingdom arc she was just being rushed to end the manga not give time for her to develop the story and characters right.

How does it make him a douchebag? Pluto (in the future) falls in love for King Endymion, who is MARRIED to Neo Queen Serenity. And because he's married, it's only logical that he and Pluto can't be together. And Pluto knows that. Besides, she actually isn't allowed to love anyway because of her duty as the guardian of time.

Sorry, I mistook that as Mamoru was cheating on Usagi with Pluto.

Sailor Moon S The Movie - Outside of the creepy cat falling in love with man aspect, the movie is quite enjoyable. It has a really good plot with a nice balance of action scenes and the animation is gorgeous. For a movie based on an anime, it has a lot of heart going for it, more than I would expect out of a movie made to make a quick yen. Plus, even though she has no development, Princess Kaguya is a really awesome villain. If anything, the only negative with the final battle is it was lacking a kick ass song like R had with Moon Revenge. Nevertheless, I give this movie a 7/10.

Actually Dr. Kain, if you think about it, according to Takeuchi-sama's origin of Luna, she's not a cat entirely. She's a Mautian and has a human form. But for some reason that doesn't translate into the Anime. So I don't find it al that weird/creepy. She has human emotions, so love would eventually be something she expressed to someone other than Artemis (which is actually a Goddesses name...).

Well if crystals stah on course on how it going we will see human Luna and artimus in sailor moon crystal heck we saw a glimps of it die artimus seeing Luna but it was her human form illussion but she was still a cat.

I have only seen episode 1 od SM Crystal. I just can't seem to find a good time to catch up on it really. But I do love the style they are using for the new series. And, dammit, they better stay on track and go with the Manga storyline. That's what they promoted.

Ail and Anne were just a movie-tie in to buy some time until Takeuchi caught up with the Manga chapters (pretty much like the Garlic junior saga in Dragonball Z). So yeah, they won't appear in Crystal.

Today was a Sailor Moon day. First off, we watched the final disc to the first BD volume. There are some really interesting episodes to be found in that batch, but for the most part, they are some pretty dull episodes.

Then we watched the new episode of Crystal and oh my fucking god, I expected the anime to at least fix the ADD pacing of the episode, but nope. They decided to spend 3 minutes on a transformation sequence rather than actually make the story sensible. This was as much garbage as this very manga chapter.

Oh yeah, and Crunchyroll is absolute garbage when it comes to streaming. I haven't been able to watch a single Crystal episode without it either freezing, buffering, going out of HD, since the 8th episode. Thank the gods I use my friend's account as it is not worth paying for myself.

Caught up with crystal. This arc even in the original anime plays the Clark Kent/Superman thing. Chibiusa go back in time to bring sailor moon to future. Sailor moon is obviously her mother. Even tho neo queen hair changed silver it still usagi. Same can go with mamoru and the king.
