I normally skip the clip shows, but this one was pretty fun. Not amazing, but an amusing way to spend 27 minutes.

Hmm still trying to figure out what Jugglur's deal is. He seems to want humanity to want to protect itself without ultramen maybe?

This week on Ultraman Z, some of Taguchi's most creative direction ever, some of Haruki's actor's best work yet, and a new ED theme! What more could you want in an episode? |
A very wonderful modern showing for Bullton, I just love that giant dimensional ball of a monster. I also love how Bullton put up such an incredible fight against Z and Haruki, all the forms, bringing back the Z Lance, even using all their attack Medals. It goes to show you how far Haruki and Z have come.
Also it was incredible seeing Bullton and Gamma Future try to out weird each other out with their energy attacks. But next week.... OH MY GOODNESS GREEZA!!!! Here is a guy I never thought we'd see again, a guy we haven't seen since X! And man, what a perfect threatening opponent to set up and showcase our Final Form, Delta Rise Claw! |
This was a relatively strong episode!
Sevenger gets the "your old so we're retiring you" treatment, which feels like a cheap cop-out! The emotional resonance between Haruki and his father was unexpected and some might call it rushed, but the story up to this point helps it from feeling rushed or overly clunky. Juggler retains his secretive albeit semi-comedic sensibilities. The Opener of Z is officially available, and I hope this new ending gets the same treatment! Doesn't Z's voice actor do the new theme? Never let STORAGE plan your pizza and popcorn party cause nobody will care about any of it when and if someone like Bako brings a big fish! Next week...Greeza AND Geed AND "New Power"! |
That tuna though. :lolol
|
I am also sad about sevenger's retirement
but my prediction is that King Zoe will betray Storage and they will have to bring Sevenger out of retirement to help combat it. |
This! This was the resolution I wanted for Haruki's moral dilemma!
When he got transported back in time and the baseball came bouncing down the hill towards him I audibly gasped, because I knew what would follow. Excellent and creative use of Bullton's abilities and such a strong character moment. Couple all of that with the good comedy, the great miniature work (the scene with the miniature office going zero gravity was insane) and the amazing action - this is Z as I want it to be. So good. And next week - Geed returns, the big bad from X makes an appearance and Z's new form - with the talking Belial sword. I cannot freakin’ wait. Quote:
... I want to watch the Patlabor movie again... |
After Toei tried to celebrate the 10th with, uh, some cell medals and a Gaim movie; Z comes in swinging with a resolution that feels like it was pulled directly out of Kamen Rider OOO in the best of ways. Phenomenal

All I can manage right now are some scattered points that I really want to throw out there...
Seeing Sevenger get retired made actually kinda sad so I'm also hoping it gets to make a dramatic comeback later. Hey, I think this is the most personality we've seen from Celebro. Wow, that commercial just casually spoils Delta Rise and the Belialrok, huh. When Haruki moved in for that handshake with his father, and how it starts to overwhelm him, and then his father slowly realises... One of the best scenes ever. I had to take a moment. That fight with Bullton is no-joke the most fun and exciting action I've seen in Ultraman in a long time?! It's an incredibly creative and formidable back-and-forth, all done with a very unconventional kind of monster. (Also hey, we got to see Z's lance again for three seconds.) |
I would probably buy the Blurays for this series as long as it doesn't take a sudden turn in quality for the remainder of the season.
|
I never laughed so hard at Juggler stopping for a bathroom break.
What if.... In the final episode, Haruki separates from Z and both of them tag team with Haruki using Sevenger to fight the final villain, throwback to their very first fight in the first episode? Quote:

When it comes to Juggler I'm always wondering if he will ever use his Z-Riser again or if they went to the trouble of explaining why he has one just to sell a P-Bandai toy.
Although he might use it again in the finale or something? |
I generally don't like when the 2nd verse of the song becomes the opening, but Z's is still pretty good! The power of Masaaki Endoh.
This was a really good episode. Haruki's meeting with his dad definitely tugged at the ol' heart strings. Yeah, especially the handshake at the end. Good stuff. I also liked the little bit of continuity for why his dad took a weirdly long time to pick up a ball. The whole fight with Bullton was very creative and fun. Gamma Future and Bullton flinging random magic shit at each other was really cool. Beta Smash diving on screen while screaming his own name amuses the hell out of me. Z's such a goddamn dork that he sings his own theme song now. |

Really loved this last episode. The whole 4th dimensional trap thing didn't go on too long, but it had some great moments while it lasted (I loved the bit where Yoko kept running across the screen). I like it when the Ultra shows go into weirder bits of sci-fi and this definitely qualified. It also led to that great scene with Haruki and his dad, which was really well done.
(Disclosure time: I've been watching Taiga at the same time that Z has been airing and I get a lot of specifics between the two confused. I honestly couldn't 100% remember if it was Hiroyuki or Haruki who had the dead father). I love the monster this week. There is something so charmingly dumb about the kaiju being a giant squidgy ball with literal egg whisks sticking out of it. Gloriously silly monster. |

Ace... correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not his anniversary or something this year, is it?
So - why him? He does look kinda similar to Z - don’t tell me they're father and son :lol |

@Topic: This is essentially an Ultraman Belial hand puppet with a sword stuck to it and I love it. Also didn’t realize it had LED'S in its eyes, that's great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIys81MyQjQ |
My main focus on the Belialrok is the fact that one of this attacks is “Deathcium Toothpaste.” I just want to know when that will come up, if at all, in canon.

This week on Ultraman Z, Taguchi just goes absolutely nuts with the direction. Like I don't even know where to start there's so many wild scenarios and moments packed in this one. |
Greeza definitely helped sell the threat factor that a new power up was needed. It effortlessly plowing through Z, Geed, even Tri King and Five King thanks to Juggler getting involved.
And judging from the end with Haruki holding a normal Belial Medal, it looks like the medals go back to normal so he can still access Alpha Edge. Will say though I do love how we got the cool super splitscreen transformation for Haruki and Riku. It was hectic and energetic in the best ways. Also, I love, love, love that Beliarok isn't even what people were memeing about "Belial gets turned into a sword", it's just something that was created when Riku and Greeza mixed together. I'm getting serious Zaruba vibes off him, I'm not sure why. |
Honestly, as cool as all the action was (someone probably should've come up with that split-screen transformation idea during R/B!), I think my favorite bit in the entire episode was Juggler riding in the back of that car. Even just from the angle it's shot at you can tell it's purposely being as unexciting as possible, and it is beautiful. Remarkably downplayed for a scene immediately followed up by a shootout straight out of a gritty crime drama! This episode had so many things happening, you guys!

Wow, that was really amazing. I loved that Z and Haruki had to overcome like three challenges to get everything in order to beat Greeza. They had to get the medal, get the medal into the riser, and convince the Belirock to work with them. I used to kamen rider where it's just like one challenge.
|
Anybody noticed that Galaxy Rising's body resembles Greeza a bit? Dunno if that's intentional.
I'm gonna buy a Beliarok, lowkey my new favorite Ultraman weapon. |
