It takes me ages to watch it already because it has nothing really special about it that makes me want to watch it a lot. |

If Den-O sees this thread I don't know what's gonna happen.
Also I haven't seen all of Gaoranger I only saw the first episode and it was the first episode of a Sentai SO I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE! |

Gaoranger episodes 1-5.
I actually love this season already, it's pretty good by sentai standard's in my eye. Not quite Gokaiger or Shinkenger in my eyes, but it's easier for me to sit down and watch than some others. Though, is it just me, or were the Auxiliary Spirits introduced a bit too fast? Anyway, I like the season so far. Nothing super crazy, but I like it. Now, on to Wild Force, which I was honestly surprised by...but that's for another thread. |
I'm fairly new to Super Sentai, but I watched a lot of the Power Rangers growing up. I decided to start from the beginning, so I'm watching Himitsu Sentai Goranger and I'm loving it. I can't wait to watch the series that come after.
|
I'm also new to Super Sentai and these forums. I was very intrigued by Kyoryuger having tons of different "ranger" colors (sorry I know I probably shouldn't call them rangers, but I'm new to Sentai and don't know what else to call them yet, haha) as well as the almost cartoony theme of the uniforms and mecha. I didn't want to wait for it to be adapted to Power Rangers, so I started watching it and I'm hooked! I really really like it. When I'm finished with it I intend on going back and watching some of the other Sentai shows like Shinkenger, Gokeiger etc...
I do have a question though since this is my first series to watch. What is the general consensus currently about Kyoryuger? Does the fandom generally like it more or less than past seasons? |

You know as I rewatch Jetman, I have to ask something. Why do they need two bracelets? They only need the one to transform. I guess the other one works as a walky talkie sort of deal, but still. Couldn't they have just combined the two?

Decided to pick up Go-Busters again, which I said I'd do forever. I went with episode 15, as I'm pretty sure I saw past this, but this is one of the first episodes that is really crucial to the plot, beyond the first couple.
I kinda get why people didn't like this show. Go-Busters really doesn't feel like a sentai series. The leather looking suits, the fact the show places much more focus on story, world building and character than on the action, it all feels more like your average Kamen Rider show, than sentai. Personally I love this direction as I think out of the two big ones, Kamen Rider is a much, much better franchise (imo), but if you're a sentai die hard I can see why this might be challenging. And it isn't to say the action is bad. The designs for the villains are awesome, especially considering they are just made out of household appliances and stuff. And I love how people are actually in danger, and need to be saved by the Busters. Monster fighting is wicked, but seeing our heroes save the day is even better. If I was gonna complain about anything, it's J. I love the Buddyroid designs in this show, and as much as the suits have grown on me, I can't help but be disappointed by how much cooler J looks BEFORE he transforms. I didn't realise how much I missed this show. |

Great to hear. :D |
I finished watching Zyuranger last night and the one thing that kept popping in my head was (cue Ami) Wow! I didn't hate it, but I can't say that I loved it either. The mecha battles were pretty good, most of the characters fell short, and the story was there but it wasn't. The whole God vs Satan thing caught me off guard. Burai's death seems overhyped, I actually thought the episode with Dragon Ceasar mourning was more impactful. I would definitely suggest that people watch this series to see where MMPR got its start, sort of like a history lesson. My biggest takeaway was that somebody watched it and said "I think we can make this work in America."

Go-Busters 16.
Man J is a weirdo, but I like the way they balance his goofiness with actual serious goings on. It was an interesting choice to introduce J and Jin's mechs as CGI, but I preferred it. It was probably the best introduction of a mech in the franchise, other than Ace's and Dragon Star-Lord's intro. I also love the teams balance, Hiromu trusts his team to get the job done, and doesn't need to do absolutely everything himself. I don't get this Avatar stuff though, if they are just projections from Hyperspace how come they can interact with our world like everyone else? |

Alternate option: J is a green lantern and the avatar one of his constructions. |

Go-Busters 17.
I love the way the mech stuff is actually part of the plot, sure it's as much a toy commercial as any other show, but this show tries to not be so blatant about it. The mech stuff is just fantastic, the detail on the miniatures is just incredible and really does make it look like an actual city. Go-Buster Beet is SWEET :D I also love how Jin and J's involvement in the show isn't entirely focused on Hiromu just because he is red. It's just a shame Yoko always has so little to do and so little characterisation, but then sentai hates women. I also love how the show tells us Jin and J's relationship visually. They don't seem like friends, they constantly squabble, but then as they fight shoulder to shoulder they are completely in sync with one another, and it is a beautiful thing to see. Man I loved Forkroid. Both the 'I'm gonna fork you up' and Jin shouting 'shit!' in English. Go-Busters 18. I don't get Jin's transformation, I know his transformed suit is built out of parts of J, but even when he extracts the parts...they are still there on J :s Was it that hard to make a suit where bits detach? Surely they do any way? J was really fun this episode, as ever, but I feel sorry that Yoko had to act alone with him, as his likeability only magnified how annoying she is. Although why would J move the Megazord to the city? Wasn't it safer to fight where they were? How is the Go-Busters movie? I heard it takes place between episodes 20 and 22 in the series, so I'm nearing the time to watch it, if it is worth it. |

The movie is decent summer fun. As 30 minute summer Sentai films go it's very enjoyable and actually coherent, unlike, well any of the others I've ever seen.

Episode 19 of Go-Busters was the first episode that disappointed me. Not because it was bad, Go-Busters can't do bad, but this is the closest thing the show has felt to true filler. I know there have been similar kinds of episodes, but they were at the start when we were still establishing character and dynamics and stuff so they worked there. Did we really need to reaffirm the relationship between Hiromu and Nick almost half way through the show? Buster Hercules was cool though, he looks a bit of a state, as combination mecha always do, but he doesn't look quite the nightmare Oh does, as all the stuck on bits are just huge guns. You can't hate that. What did Ace get when he combined with the others? A huge gut and a moustache? |
If you think Go-Busters can't do bad, you haven't come across the eraser monster episode.

Gokaiger was kinda funny at least, but it mostly made no sense. As for Shinkenger, I agree. Though I love the scene where they sneak into the temple by dressing up as Nanashi. As for the Go-Busters movie, it feels kinda like an extra long episode, but I kinda liked it. As said before, the frog Buddyroid, Enetan, is kinda worth watching it. |
Count me in with the "Go-Busters move is pretty good" crowd. Especially for the standard these summer films usually have.
Judging by its sequel/the little I've heard about it, I genuinely feel the Kyoryuger one is going to raise the bar though... |
Go Busters 20.
Although the Filmroid himself kinda sucked, I loved the way the show used him. The fight against the evil Busters has to be one of the coolest 'vs evil versions of ourselves' fights the franchise has done. And things like the Hyperspace dome, and using Hiromu's family against him, was surprisingly dark all things considered, which was awesome. Plus that has to be the coolest looking Special Buster, yet. God I adore this team, and their dynamic. This is easily the strongest core team I've had the pleasure to watch in Sentai. They are a family, they are all strong, and they will all use their powers to protect one another, it doesn't matter what colours they wear, they are all heroes. I love how they actually had to use engineers and planning and stuff to combine all five Machines. And, as far as things go, Great looks well... Great! I'm not a fan of bulky megazords, but at least he is nice and sturdy. I expected him to be flapping all over the place but his body looked mostly steady. Plus despite being five Zords combined, he is surprisingly tight, with a limited amount of random shit jutting in all manner of directions, just to cram as much into the design as possible. I hated stacking, I'm glad they didn't use it. |
Go-Busters 21. Do you even lift, bro?
You gotta love a good Ryuu focused episode, he's my favourite out of the Busters minus J. I kinda wish Ryuu was Red, especially as he is like the father of the group, but I know sentai decreed that all main heroes must be pretty young Japanese boys. God Gorisaki is annoying. J and Nick are so charming, so how'd they mess it up so bad with the other two? I know Usada is meant to be a bit of a dick, but it doesn't make him less of one by doing it on purpose. Jin is a fucking asshole. I know this episode is just a sort of knowing prod at this type of device used in sentai, but I actually kinda wish it wasn't a joke, as it woulda really added some gravity to the situation. If there is one thing I'm not enjoying about Go-Busters, it's that the show takes itself to dark places, but the tone rarely raises above farting dinosaurs, minus for the occasional piece of melodrama. |
Today begins my seventeen episodes of Goseiger challenge. Does the show deserve the hate? Or am I once again the opposite of the community? Let's find out!
Man the action is great in this show, and it's even better now we have some actual characters and plot to go along with it. The monster suits are way better than I remember, and without Saban's censorship, things go to all manners of hell very quickly. How much cooler is Creepox here?! Hyde was definitely the coolest this episode, but I loved the way Agri blocked lasers with his feet, that was pretty badass. Alata was pretty boss as well, choosing to fight even though he didn't have his Change Card. Also Moune is HOT. And err, Pink has big ears? The only real complaint I have with that opening episode is the whole playing cards gig. I don't hate cards in themselves, but angels getting their powers from cards is just stupid, not fun campy stupid, just plain stupid. Even if it somehow worked, I hate the cheap use of Christian Iconography. These guys aren't angels, just putting in a few wing effects now and then doesn't say otherwise. They would have worked just as well without naming them angels. |
Part 2.
There was surprisingly little to this episode. I know we have the Angels deciding to stay on Earth and fight, but wasn't that their original goal/job anyway? And if the whole point was that they needed to be reminded of their duty...dude it's the second episode. Have you never heard of pace? Context? I don't even really know what Gosei World is and the title 'Master Head' just makes me snicker every time. Why would angels have a giant robot? Oh well, the Gosei Machines are pretty cool so I guess I'll allow it. And Gosei Incestuous has a pretty GREAT (arph) design. It's a weird feeling, when a devote hater of sentai mecha, enjoyed the mech stuff the most in an episode. |
Part 3.
Another weak episode in terms of story, seriously was anything in this episode not clichéd and by the numbers? But another strong episode in terms of visuals. I dunno, Goseiger just feels big. The action scenes are flashy, there is a limited amount of vague quarries and warehouses, they have scenes of the monsters causing havoc in the cities to create a sense of tension and the mech stuff is actually well done, with fun little camera tricks to try and stop it feeling too much like a guy in a box, on a sound stage. It was a good episode for Alata, who is shaping up nicely. I LOVE Go-Busters but Hiromu didn't deserve to be red, I like that Alata proves why he should be red. He has a great attitude, is totally badass when he needs to be and really cares for his team. Although I do like the Goseiger's dynamic and Alata and Big Ears's carefree optimism certainly suits the sky, I just feel Agri and Moune's wildness would be much better suited to the sea. They could still do the whole raw power metaphor, if not even more so, through the use of waves. And Hyde's serious, stoicness would be much more suited to the unwavering mountains. It's weird they didn't use this episode for Megaforce. Woulda been kinda cool, coulda been something like Jake worries about Gia getting hurt as they're both new to all this, and comes across as a jerk because he's being overprotective but it's just because he cares about her. Gia doesn't take this well, fearing her independence is under attack and pushes him away, plus all the other men on the team out of principle. It even works because the only one Moune doesn't push away is Big Ears, which would translate fine because Gia and Emma are established as best friends. Jake has to learn that Gia isn't his to control - and that he needs to believe in his friends power, which is an important message to children, but she has to learn to let people in and let them help her which is even more important to kids. |
Ha Locke is enjoying Goseiger! So awesome. And you're completely right. Alata is a much better Red then people give him credit for, they should've used Moune getting hurt in MF, and she is indeed hot. Suddenly my crush on her makes sense doesn't it!
|
I certainly am! I don't get the hate for Alata at all, especially considering like the Red Dairanger who took a backseat in his own show, and no one hates him.
I know that UFO episode introduced the zords, but they totally could have edited around that footage and just integrated it into the footage from episode 3, as the rest of the second episode was pretty much useless. But then that would have been effort for Saban and we know how they feel about effort! Moune is wonderful. |
