Isn't the manga made up? In the context of FMA I can't call the second half of the series filler. In most shows, filler is a side story that is meant to expand on the world or the characters and take a break from the story at large, not a storyline that wasn't in the manga. Sure its different, but just because it didn't follow the original story (which wasn't even finished at the time) doesn't mean that what happened in the parts that weren't in the manga was filler.

Filler is meant for anything that is not part of the manga. Hellsing after episode 6 is filler. And honestly, I don't care for the first FMA series all that much. NO matter how many times I watch it, I just have a hard time getting into it, compared to Brotherhood, which I fell in love with instantly. My biggest issue with FMA is that it just does not make sense having Bradley as Pride and their mother being Sloth. There is nothing lazy about her. Plus, the characters never seem to age and I hated Kimbley being turned into the Terminator. Oh, and Olivia is my favorite character in the series, so her not being in the first anime does not help either. Now to be fair, I did find the alternate Earth aspect to be pretty cool, but the execution was bad, especially at how they just ditched Winry in the end.

The original FMA wasn't filler. It was a plot divergence. Filler is for when there's just a bunch of crap in the middle before the manga's advanced the plot enough for them to incorporate it.

Anyway, I watched the first episode of Gatchaman Crowds last night. Can't say I was very impressed - too much going on, weird art style, designs that have "BUY THE TOYS" written all over them and little to nothing to relate it to its predecessor. This is less a spiritual successor to Gatchaman and more a show desperately trying to ride off the success of Tiger & Bunny.

I got D-Arts Megaman X, so I decided to watch the first episode of Megaman NT Warrior. It was ok. Oh my gosh! Everyone is in this show! Andrew Francis plays Megaman, Tabitha St. Germain plays...someone else, Nicole Oliver plays Lan's mom. The dub is surprisingly ok. Then again, considering who's in it, I shouldn't be surprised. Apparently Steve Blum helped with the script adaptation, which is cool. The animation is overall...ok. Also, what kind of a fisherman gives a kid two huge raw fish?

Ewwwwww, the dub is down right awful. They made unnecessary name changes and pointless edits. It also doesn't help that they did not bother to dub the entire series.

While that is the most common usage of the word, filler is actually anything that does not advance the main plot or characters. Even manga have filler. Either way you are correct, FMA is a plot divergence, not filler. I could probably make the argument that the second half of that show had less filler than the first half.

True. I was more thinking along the lines of Kain's proclamation that since it wasn't in the manga its instantly filler but your description is much truer.
