They've already released some videos of the Blazar Brace:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXDQd059LrQ It uses a spinning LEDs system similar to the DriveDriver, but is now advanced enough to create a unique pattern for whichever Ultra's Blazar Stone inserted into it. The patterns themselves seem to be based off the Ultra's portal/background that appears when they transform and grow. The dx brace seems to only come with Blazar and Zett's, so perhaps Tsuburaya is going super classic with the show and not giving Blazar any side forms. |

Could be a Taiga-kinda situation where the Ultra uses the powers of his predecessors for special finishers instead of transformations. So we might get another Ultra in this show who uses a different transformation item altogether? |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markarian_421 Anyways, I haven't put all thoughts on the Blazar stuff yet, I think it all looks really cool and exciting. It's really interesting to see something so tonally and aesthetically different, especially for something that is marking the 10th anniversary of New Generation. I'm hoping it's a risk that'll payoff |
UltraFest is now a thing in July at San Francisco. Will be showing select episodes of the original Ultraman in 4K & Shin Ultraman. More detail will be announced in the future.

Watched episodes 35 and 36 of Ultraman Ace just the other day.

I'm thinking of getting into Ultraman more but my Shout dvds seem to be somewhat damaged. TsuPro has Seven and Ace fully on youtube though and I found a way to watch Nexus which has held my curiosity for the longest time, maybe I can use that to pass the time on my day off tomorrow

I don't know how your level of access works, Annuga, but the series released by Mill Creek are available on the SHOUT! Factory TV app and on Tubi. Some might take longer to stream than others after their corresponding disc release. I think Neos and Mebius were two of the most recent releases as far as streaming is concerned.
P.S.: Both apps follow the "free-but-with-ads" model. There is no workaround for this. |

This was apparently released at Anime Japan though: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fumwwj4W...jpg&name=large |

It looks awesome though! Is Dias supposed to be a young Diavolo? Seems like he has a different voice though. Quote:
So a serious and stoic undercover operative...who also loves cosplaying. Can someone say Gap Moe? |
Favorite comedic and horror episodes of Dark Fantasy so far:

Ultra Q Dark Fantasy did not live to the expectations, but it's not a terrible show. If Ultra Q was a horror series, Dark fantasy would be a J-Drama with horror elements.
The horror in this series is majorly mysterious phenomenons with very few aliens and kaiju appearances. Don't go to this series for the kaiju, otherwise you'd be disappointed. Special effects were still early 2000s quality. CGI is dodgy and some costumes didn't look convincing. Suspense varies from episode to another, but for the most part it landed well. Favorite episodes:

I have just finished watching the English dubbed version of episode eight of Ultraman Z and I am seriously enjoying this show a whole lot and I am looking forward to watching more. I think Z might even become another favorite Ultraman series of mine since Ultraman Mebius if this series keeps it up with its overall quality.
|
Been getting into the original Ultraman series after really enjoying Shin Ultraman. It's been a fun change from Ishinomori style Showa toku. I can only watch so many episodes of "scientist who developed weapon of mass destruction to be used for peace shocked that evil organization wants to use it for mass destruction" Kaiju and seijin present a very different sort of threat. Curious about something though. The actor who plays Ide, was he mixed race? I swear he looks almost white. I'll admit I'm hella face blind though, so I might be talking nonsense

Checked out the opening episode of Z on Switchblade's recommendation and I honestly really liked it. Giant toku isn't really usually my kind of thing, but I think they did a good job here of blending the traditional elements of these kinds of productions with more modern sensibilities.
Also, as much as I love Rider's flying around carparks shooting lasers at each other, I did enjoy the feedback and thrill of seeing people getting smashed through buildings. I think they handled this well, too, as they integrated the world around these events to enhance the feedback, as I remember so many sentai mecha fights which just seemed to take place in weird cardboard void dimensions where no human life was in danger despite whole cities being flattened. |
Quote:
Ultraman, in principle, always coped with the effect of gigantism better than Sentai. Partly because of the shorter shows, partly because the human-sized action is secondary and optional to him. |
Thoughts about the Ultraman parody being in the Treehouse Of Horror ?

Ultraseven 55th anniversary concept movie. Basically, a hypothetical what if episode of the original Ultraseven

Also a follow up from the Alien Pegassa episode that also features time travel and modern FX for the Ultra Guard vehicles? I am here for it! Curious how Ann will look. |

New Week, New Blazar cast member
https://twitter.com/TsuburayaGlobal/...32221192896513 |
The Ultraman anime released it's final season on Netflix.
The show had it's issues, but ultimately I thought it was a good ending and wrapped things up fairly well in it's final season. I think it was an enjoyable and different interpretation of the franchise and the Showa Ultras. I've just started watching Taro now and watching Kotaro in action made me realize Taro is probably the least changed characterization-wise of the Ultra Brother revamps in the show. I will miss seeing Shinjiro and Rena but I guess the manga is currently ongoing. |
Anyone watching New Generation Stars? So far it's been a nice little watch, giving moments with each of the New Gen Ultras (the ones with R/B were especially full of gold), but this week was pretty cool, seeing Orb and Z interacting and talking about Juggler.
|
Started Nexus. So far I like the narrative they went with.
