I am currently continuing right where I left off on my Dekaranger rewatch and I am already a quarter through it. Episode 13, in particular aka the one that marks as Deka Master's debut, is more awesome than I remembered it being and episodes 6 and 11 are still among my favorites for this series.

Once upon today, we continue with?
Androzani?s Tsukai Detour And today, it?s alright, because we?re going full force king with? Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger vs Donbrothers https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR2NGX...pg&name=medium "Once upon a time, 2,000 years ago in the world of Chikyu, an evil force called the Bugnarak invaded and attempted to wipe out humanity. Five brave soldiers appeared and united the powerful Shugods into the guardian spirit King-Ohger to defeat them. Upon victory, the five became kings and built the world into five kingdoms to rule. But, a prophecy foretells that the Bugnarak shall return 2,000 years later to finish their mission of annihilating humanity, and on that day..." Ohsama Sentai Gira/Kuwagata-Ohger: The self-proclaimed Evil King of Shugoddam, the land of the Gods. Gira Husty was born the biological son of Uchu King Dagded Dujardin and the previous queen from the royal Shugoddam family, as per Causus Husty's wishes to have the power to eliminate all his enemies, including the Bugnarak Empire. The child was a gift from Dadged to the royal family for their 2000 year long loyalty and service to his empire, though he was unaware that Causus wanted this child to eliminate Dagded. Causus' wife passed away immediately following Gira's birth. According to Gira's older half-brother Rcules Husty, Gira was kidnapped as a child and despite the family's best efforts, they failed to find him. As a result, they chose to omit all records of his existence; lest the family be subject to scandal, and dishonor should the incident come to light. Gira thus grew up in an orphanage with no memories of his real heritage beyond his name and the taste of a dessert known as ?Rainbow Jururira?. Although he lived in poverty at an orphanage, he was an innocent young man who admired the king, Rcules. However, when the Earth Empire Bugnarak invaded, he became enraged at the king's arrogant and cruel nature. Gira rebelled against the world and became the "Evil King" who protects the people. This allowed him to awaken God Kuwagata to confront the Bugnarak as Kuwagata Ohger, though at the cost of Rcules branding him a traitor. With Gira now on the run from the Shugoddam, he encounters leaders of four nations: Yanma Gast, Hymeno Ran, and Kaguragi Dybowski while exploring their respective kingdom and learn each of their traits and fighting Bugnarak along the way. At his trial in front of Gokkan's sovereign Rita Kaniska, Gira eventually learns that he is in fact a crowned prince who is a legitimate heir to the Shugoddam throne and Rcules's younger brother. With this revelation, Gira vowed to overthrow his tyrannical brother and restore peace to Shugoddam. After his rise to kinghood, Gira leads Shugoddam taking and reforming it into a more peaceful nation and giving it stability unlike his brother tenure. He would also help the stand-in kings of the other nations run each kingdom all the while the original kings are being imprisoned. Raised in an orphanage in the castle town, Gira has a pure and kind-hearted personality and is well-liked by all children. However, having always played the villain role in playing hero with them, he's developed a habit of speaking in a twisted manner, namely referring to the deliverance of true justice and compassion as "Evil". When he learned of King Rcules Husty's goal to "Prioritize the unification of Earth even at the expense of the people" in the name of "justice", he turned against the world by playing the role of the "Evil King" to destroy this so-called "justice". As an orphan and never able to see how a king or queen is supposed to do their work, Gira was quick to make wrong judgements on the other kings and queens, viewing them as nothing but the same as Rcules. However, he will accept the king's and queen's worth once he knowson how happy their citizens are to follow their path and leadership. His adventure with Yanma Gast is one such example. After the timeskip, he seems to have matured quite a lot, toning down the "Evil King" persona in favor of his true one. Despite being royalty, Gira doesn't seem to enjoy the excess attention it brings, as when the people rejoiced over his return by tossing him in the air, he immediately demanded that they stop it because he didn't like it. Despite only ever having it once as a child, Gira's favorite food is Rainbow Jururira, a type of gelatin desert (later revealed as the powdered God Kuwagata Soul). Gira refers to himself as Boku (僕), but he switches to using Ore-Sama (俺様) whenever he's playing his Evil King persona. Yanma Gast/Tombo-Ohger: The president of N?Kosopa, the land of technology, and the inventor of the OhgerCaliburs and control interfaces for the Shugods. Following God?s Wrath 15 years ago, when N'Kosopa had been decimated, Yanma grew up in the slums, due to the attack hitting the land hard. His mentor, Gin, taught him how to repair computers and the technology from the slums. At one point, he finally created his main laptop rigging, later known as Top Computer, that he still uses to this day. Alas, Yanma's journey to rebuild N'kosopa from nothing didn't start well. At one point, he came across Shiokara, who at that time was working for a counterfeiter boss named Suji, along with Akka, Mayuta and Usuba. Shiokara initially hated Yanma since the latter successfully created a machine to point out the counterfeit money they produced. However, Yanma?s tenacity, determination and resolve, even when facing certain death, successfully won Shiokara over. Thus, Shiokara ended up beating and leaving Suji and swearing his allegiance to Yanma. Eventually, Yanma rose through the ranks, and became the president of N'kosopa, with Shiokara as his assistant. Under Yanma?s rule, N'kosopa turned from a debris filled slum to a futuristic and technological city. A well-meaning monarch who would rather not get involved in politics, Yanma is a highly intelligent man, having obtained his throne through his computer skills alone. However, these skills have made him highly arrogant albeit he was able to deduce that Rcules Husty was far from the benevolent king that he had painted himself to be at a first glance. As a result of his arrogance, Yanma attempted to hack into God Kuwagata and control King-Ohger himself, only to fail where Gira succeeded. While generally approachable, Yanma is slightly aggressive in nature due to growing up in the slums. As a result, unless he has someone watching over him, he will often pick a fight with anyone in the area. Yanma also has bad table manners, which were deemed vulgar by Hymeno. Despite his arrogance, Yanma still takes his responsibility as a king seriously. However, instead of protecting the kingdom himself as a king, he makes sure that everyone in the kingdom follows his path as well as being able to support each other. Moreover, he never views his citizens as just mere "lowly beings" or "tools" to be disposed once they had outlived their use. Instead, he views them all as his comrades. Because of his personality along with how well he has established his kingdom, all of his citizens have no quarrel with regard to following his leadership. When working with the rest of the kings, Yanma always takes the lead because of his vast knowledge and quick wit to read the situation. Hymeno Ran/Kamakiri-Ohger: Hymeno is the beautiful queen of Ishabana, the land of beauty and medicine. She originally was the princess and lived with her parents, the former king and queen. One day in her childhood, a massive swarm of locust Shugods swarmed her kingdom. Hymeno was helping her parents treat the citizens of their kingdom when a black-hooded figure came out of nowhere and injected a poison into her parents' bodies that quickly took their lives. All Hymeno could do from there was watch as the hooded figure escaped with the help of one of the locusts. This incident would later be known as God?s Wrath, and Hymeno immediately become the newest Monarch of Ishabana despite her very young age. Although the people of Ishabana try to alleviate Hymeno's grief by creating an anime called "Together with Moffun", the incident still deeply traumatized the young queen, to the point of her accusing Jeramie Brasieri as the perpetrator of said incident due to him owning a Cicada Shugod. Hymeno is a rather complex individual, being both selfish and generous. While she seemingly does things only for herself, she truly cares for others, especially for her kingdom Ishabana. She is completely obsessed with her appearance and revels in her beauty. She believes herself to be the most gorgeous woman in existence, and is particularly fond of her hair. Hymeno is also a skilled medical professional who treats her subjects with the best care she can give. Due to her spoiled nature, Hymeno will sometimes be demanding and ask for absurd things, such as having her own butler put on aged makeup and change his name to Sebastian to better fit the role, or demolishing a dilapidated house that blocks her view of the flower garden her servants planted with dynamite, though she provided the owners of the house with a brand new home. If she is enraged during battle, she will go into a fit of a noblewoman's laugh and wildly attack her foes. Due to the tragic events known as God?s Wrath killing both of Hymeno's parents and leaving her an orphan at a young age, she becomes very emotional upon the subject being brought up. She has been seen lashing out in rage as a result, with such rage leading to her desiring to tear up God Scorpion to create an antidote to avenge her parents, fighting Jeramie Brasieri upon mistaking him for the tragedy?s mastermind, and angrily confronting the culprit, 17 years after he had killed her parents. Despite her losses, she is unwilling to lose any more individuals she cares about even when said people manage to capture the man responsible, stopping Rita Kaniska and even hugging them, crying and considering them a friend. Rita Kaniska/Papillon-Ohger: Rita is the Ruler and Chief Justice of Gokkan, where those who are accused of international crimes are judged and imprisoned, regardless of country or status. They were initially an aide to their predecessor, Karras Dehaan, for five years before ascending to the throne at age 10 when Karras faked her death during the Wrath of God incident. Before this, Karras embedded the Frozen Imprisonment technique in Rita's right eye, resulting in their heterochromatic eyes. Karras explained the technique in detail to Rita, and ordered them to keep this technique a secret, also hoping that the day Rita has to use this technique will never come. Rita is firm and ruthless, but also fair in their rules when judging defendants in the court of law. As such, they earned the nickname "The Walking Code." When they are in public and on duty, they present themselves as gender neutral, since whatever gender they choose to identity as does not affect their job. However, despite their lawful nature, they are extremely introverted and shy, and talks to themselves using their plush doll named Moffun (もっふん) when in private and off-duty. A running gag with Rita is that they will unexpectedly scream when things do not go their way. Rita also has a major obsession with the fictional character "Moffun", going so far as to own various merchandise of the fictional character. This obsession can be used against them however, as Rita can be easily manipulated if a plush doll of Moffun is at stake or is pulled into the situation with Moffun as the deal breaker for them. Kaguragi Dybowski/Hachi-Ohger: Kaguragi is the king and lord of Toufu, the land of produce. Originally, he and his sister Suzume were regular citizens of Toufu, working as regular and honest rice farmers. At one point, they met the then ruling lady Iroki, who was impressed by their harvest & produce. She then proposed to sell their products to people over Chikyuu, in return for Kaguragi learning everything he needs to know to rule Toufu as the new lord. When asked why, Iroki claimed that someone as honest as Kaguragi would never betray her. However, During God?s Wrath, Iroki had hoarded all of Toufu?s food, leaving its citizens to starve. Suzume then led a coup to reclaim the rice supply, spear-headed by Kaguragi. However, Kaguragi decided to try and talk to Iroki one last time. Kaguragi ended up learning that the food stocks of Toufu were tainted by God Scorpion poison. Iroki hoarded the poisoned food before the public knew about this and burned it down. Kaguragi tried to persuade Iroki to give some of the food to the Toufu citizens, but she denied to surrender the foods that are now unfit for consumption. To prove her point, Iroki ended up consuming the poisoned rice herself and ordered Kaguragi to execute her after accidentally setting the castle, along with the poisoned rice stocks on fire. Since Kaguragi was reluctant to do so, Iroki ended up incinerating herself, calling Kaguragi a 'Traitor' with her last breath. As a mortified Kaguragi came down from the burning Toufu castle, Suzume noticed that Kaguragi?s hand was dirtied by Iroki's blood. Assuming that Kaguragi had eliminated Iroki, Suzume appointed Kaguragi as the new Toufu lord, much to the elation of the rebelling citizens. This incident, while shaking Kaguragi?s spirit, allowed Kaguragi to learn how to deceive for the greater good, thus turning him into the master fraudster he is in the present day. He would use his mastery of deceit to aid the Ohsama Sentai and Gira on his way to claim the throne of Shugoddam. Kaguragi is a very gentle, wise, and peaceful king who cares for his citizens. However, he is a master of deceit who will do even dirty work as long as it is to protect his kingdom and citizens. He is also noted to be a liar, falsely claiming he anticipated the monarchs to ally to fight the Bugnarak, much to the disagreement of the others. Despite some of his rather unscrupulous personality traits, Kaguragi is shown to deeply care for his younger sister, Suzume. Despite his deceit and lies, Kaguragi has shown to the rest of the Ohsama Sentai that he actually despises Rcules. Yanma has noted that to trust Kaguragi, one must understand his heart and goal first, which is why Yanma was able to trust Kaguragi to take down Rcules. In teamwork with the rest of the kings, Kaguragi often makes moves for his own agenda. While it always benefits the team, none of them are usually happy with how he performs it. Whenever his plan is busted and it is not a bad moment, he always resorts to playing dumb. Jeramie Brasieri/Spider Kumonos: The child of one of the human colonists from Earth who settled on Chikyu and a Bugnarak noblewoman named Nephillia, Jeramie was implanted with the King?s Proof of the Bugnarak, preventing him from dying, but making his Bugnarak powers uncontrollable, to the point his mother sealed them by placing a mask on his face, and hiding the key. Jeramie thus wrote the legend of the Ohsama Sentai battling the Bugnarak so that he could unlock his power and become the Rift King of the Bugnarak to unite them with humans. Perhaps out of pride as a storyteller, Jeramie has a distinctive way of communicating and speaks in a unique style that does not use words to get to the point, forcing Gira and others he meets to "read between the lines" even when there are no such lines. This makes him difficult to smoothly communicate with and to be understood by others. He is a pacifist who dislikes conflict and tries to remain neutral in the battle between the Kings and Bugnarak, but his true intentions were a mystery during his first appearance. But it was later revealed that he wished the Bugnarak to coexist with mankind after dealing with 2 millennia of loneliness coupled with how his family, the sixth hero and a Buganarak princess, were excommunicated and exiled for falling in love with one another and the fact that he, their illegitimate child had to spread the remade story with his father removed to many across the land while facing prejudice. Allies: Rcules Husty: The deposed king of Shugoddam and Gira?s older brother. He planned to use the Bugnarak invasion as a smokescreen to conquer the other 4 kingdoms ?in the name of justice?, which turned Gira against him and set the latter on the path to be king. In order to attain this goal, Rcules proved willing to go as far as to align with the Bugnarak and make his brother into a pariah, culminating in his admittance that he would rather sacrifice the citizens he was supposed to protect than renounce his power. Assumed dead, Rcules resurfaces two years later, having pledged his full allegiance to the Space Bug King Dagded Dujardin in order to regain his glory. But it soon transpires that Rcules has been attempting to defeat the Space Bug King ever since witnessing the damage caused by God?s Wrath, even sending Gira away after learning that his father planned to use the latter as a weapon of destruction to assert his dominance. Because he assisted the Ohsama Sentai in defeating Dagded through his knowledge of the Space Bug King?s weaknesses, his sentence of death was commuted to life imprisonment without parole. Douga: The ?King?s Left Hand? of Shugoddam, and captain of that country?s guard. Initially while he was working under Rcules, Douga acted antagonistic towards Gira and the other kings, though this seems to have only been out of loyalty to his king and his country rather than actual malice. However, Douga is shown to be a kind man who cares about the well-being of both his family and his country. As such, Douga begins to question Rcules' leadership when he chooses to side with the Bugnarak. After Rcules' downfall and Gira's rise as Shugoddam's new king, Douga's loyalty shifts over to Gira. He does his best to help Gira settle into his new position as king, and comes to respect Gira's unique way of ruling. After the timeskip, Douga's faith in Gira has increased, as shown when Gira planned to paint himself as a villain once more due to Hilbil's deeds, Douga vehemently protested his decision and exclaimed that Shugoddam's citizens need Gira's guidance more than ever. This loyalty went so far as when Rcules returned and took over Chikyu, Douga still remained loyal to Gira. Boone: A young boy who grew up in the same orphanage as Gira. Much like the other children at the orphanage, Boone looks up to Gira like an older brother. After Gira was framed by Rcules, Boone was one of the few civilians who still supported Gira. Boone showed some disappointment after Gira became king and didn't want to play anymore, but was excited when Gira changed his mind and the two got to spend some time together at the festival. Boone has proven to be quite brave for someone his age, running through a battlefield full of Sanagim to deliver the final gear Gira needed, and later piloting God Ant alongside Kogane. Goroge: The village idiot of Shugoddam. Goroge can be described as a highly provocative person. He's often shown to be the trigger for Shugoddam people?s decision-making once a big event happens. He is also shown to be quite vain and gullible, as shown when he willingly broke up with his girlfriend once Hymeno Ran (Kamejim in disguise) announced her marriage competition. He's also prone to changing sides, as shown when Rcules showed his 'True' persona as a tyrant, he immediately condemned Rcules as an Evil King and pledged support to Gira, despite that just a day before, he tried to convince people that Gira is an evil king. Kuroda: A Kuroko who functions as Kaguragi?s assistant. Suzume Dybowski: Kaguragi?s sister, Rcules? wife by arranged marriage and Gira?s sister in law. Prior to making an alliance with Rcules, Suzume was sent to be Rcules' bride to ensure the stability of the alliance. She was initially shown to be a cruel lady and having fallen head over heels for Rcules, but the truth is different. Much like her brother, Suzume is a deceitful person and cares for her brother's citizens. While originally, she seemed to despise Rcules and was merely hiding her hatred of him, their relationship is a bit more complicated than that: Suzume was one of few people who was aware of Rcules's true intentions, as shown when she assisted him in faking his death. What do I think of King Ohger? In all honesty, the series never felt like it really found its footing, so much as it believed it had it from the start. Which means that the show has a lot of early issues it never really grows out of. For instance, the characters. The main 5 all get given several flaws that the narrative treats as positive traits, meaning that there?s no growth among the cast. Even at the end, the flaws have mostly been explained rather than developed, and the characters felt stuck at square one. The secondary cast aren?t much better, since the show keeps bringing back the same cast of a few generic personalities, and never really gives them any true focus beyond a couple of gags, which makes you wonder what the point of them is. And the villains are another big issue. The Bugnarak get sidelined in favour of a very uninteresting and overused evil counterpart to the hero, who in turn spends several episodes coming out on top less because he?s awesome and hyper intelligent, and more through sheer dumb luck. Not helping is that the narrative keeps him in the show long past his ability to generate a decent story, and repeats the exact same ?duel to the death? plot three times (while you could point out Donbrothers did the same, I?ll counter that they mocked the idea of repeating plots more than they played it straight) And then there?s the increasing habit of trying to build sympathy for the villains at the last minute, after having them be unapologetically evil the whole time. Desnarak?s feeling of isolation are only brought up in his last episode and don?t really jive with how he?s been acting in his 26 episodes as the head honcho villain. And Rcules? 17 year plan is so contrived and utterly pointless you wonder why they even bothered adding that plot element, especially since the show keeps him on afterwards to do f*ck all that couldn?t have been done by another character. Which brings me to my main issue with the show. The twists. Namely, that with the exception of Dagded and the Space Bugs, all of the shows twists are dropped in the episodes they?re revealed, with little to no prior foreshadowing. It?s only in the episode where we learn Gira is a prince that the ?biometric security? feature of the OhgerCalibur exists, and it never gets mentioned again, making it clear it existed solely to shoehorn the reveal. Now then, enough negativity. Time for some positives. * I liked the visual design of the 5 kingdoms, with the virtual backgrounds giving them an edge over if they?d shot them in a cramped studio or a stock location. * The Space Bugs. As I said, their reveal is the only one that is competently handled in the whole show, and they have interesting personalities and abilities. The only downside is the lack of giant battles or original monsters when they take over, which makes some of the episodes very repetitive. * The main 6, sans Gira, who I felt really didn?t play much of a role in the show besides convincing the others to tenuously work together. While I bemoaned their lack of development, their colourful personalities and wardrobes more than make up for that. * The Kyoryuger crossover. The show?s sacred cow, and deservedly so, given the world building involved and interplay between the two Sentai. The use of a different writer and director definitely sold the ?trapped in another world? vibe they were going for. So to summarise, King-Ohger is good, but not exactly great. For the production team, this is the second and final Sentai to be produced by Takahito Ohmori after Kyoryuger (which is why I?ll be doing two reviews this year rather than one), the writer is Minato Takano, who wrote most of Ex-Aid?s spin-offs (it apparently would've been the guy who wrote Ex-Aid proper, but he was busy on another show telling the characters when they were Ready to Fight) and the director is Hiroyuki Kato, who as mentioned back in the LupinPat vs Kyu review, I don?t really have an opinion of. So with all of that said, on with the review. We open not on Earth or Chikyu, but in the location from King-Ohger?s summer movie, with both Jeramie and Haruka narrating the situation for their respective shows? fandoms. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIRtKJW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIRtKJX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIRtKDX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIRtKAX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR2MnW...pg&name=medium They then ask the question on everyone?s lips simultaneously, while the 14 of them prepare to transform. OhgerCaliber: Kuwagata!/Tombo!/Kamakiri!/Papillon!/Hachi! Kumonoslayer: Kaiho! (Release) Ohsama Sentai: Ohgai Busou! (Kings Armour, Equip. Translated by my subs as ?Royal Raiment?) Donbrothers: Avatar Change! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR2M6W...pg&name=medium After the two teams finish transforming and clash, we cut back to earlier at Shugoddam(nit), wherein Gira?s court were inexplicably making kibi dango. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR2NHW...pg&name=medium Even more inexplicably, Taro shows up to deliver something to Gira (who clearly wasn?t expecting him to show up, given what happens next. And before someone says it, no Donbrothers proper would not just have this happen. It would have Taro be given a reason to go to Chikyu, and introduce some contrived method for him to travel there. This is just laziness) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR4esW...jpg&name=small And to emphasise my above point, the appearance of Taro out of nowhere causes Gira to choke on the dango he was eating and die from asphyxiation (apparently, no-one in this castle knows the Heimlich Manoeuvre, since Taro immediately tries to remove the dango BY HAND and everyone else just stands there panicking). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR4e1X...jpg&name=small Taro then leaves without making his delivery (well this is already so unusual I doubt he?ll be fired over this) and goes outside, only now noticing the Shugods are stacking on top of each other for whatever reason (the Shugoddam Town Musicians?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR4enX...jpg&name=small And what is his takeaway from being in a land of robot insects amid a medieval backdrop? He should ask a random child this question. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR9brW...jpg&name=small And if you?re confused? Don?t worry, narrator Haruka has you covered (though how she knows about these events, I don?t know) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR9bdW...jpg&name=small Then one day, Giichan flew away, and Taro never saw him again, with the mere mention of the beetle being the one thing that makes him lower his unflappable guard (also, if the sepia tone didn?t give it away to those who have watched neither show, it?s reused from episode 18 of Donbrothers, which resolved this plotline with Taro being told that the beetle was likely dead now, and he accepted it. So this is character regression right here) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR9bhX...jpg&name=small The kid then proceeds to tell Taro the exact same thing that Haruka told him in the aforementioned episode. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUIR9btW...jpg&name=small Taro?s solution to this problem? Invoke his inability to lie without dying temporarily and send himself there. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISA93X...jpg&name=small Amazingly, it works. (I guess Haakabaaka doesn?t discriminate between Earth natives and Chikyu natives?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISA9YW...jpg&name=small Back on Earth, Sonoza and Haruka are out on the town, looking for information. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISA95X...jpg&name=small Unfortunately, the only thing happening is Tsubasa and Sononi running away from the suit actor cameo cop. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISA-EW...jpg&name=small But then Minoru Ohno (remember him from last time?) gets hit by a truck and gets left on death?s door (if you look closely, you can infer why the truck crashed) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISFZSW...jpg&name=small Despite Saruhara?s suggesting they just let the dude die and save everyone some trouble, Jiro insists that all the Donbrothers help the officer save him (Why is anyone listening to Jiro?s suggestions after the last movie?s events?). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISFZ2W...jpg&name=small (Not sure how BoonRed?s power up form will help, especially since it wasn?t even out yet at the time this came out in theatres) And then Haruka chooses this incident to come up with a new premise. Starting with an old man who gets hit by a truck. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUISFZaW...jpg&name=small And then Ohno revives from the dead as Ohsamaki (for the third freaking time. And this time, they?re going to treat him like an actual threat, despite how easily he went down the last time), and summons the King-Ohger Robotaro Gear, which banishes everyone to Chikyu (except the officer, who gets left there looking confused) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUI--k3W...jpg&name=small Tsubasa and Sononi end up in Shugoddam. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUI--lHX...jpg&name=small But any hopes of starting over on another planet are dashed, since they?re recognised by a Shugoddam guard (who is played by the same actor as the cop from the previous scene. This isn?t merely a joke. They were both recurring characters in both shows). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUI_vhHW...jpg&name=small Turns out the pair resemble a pair of Shugoddam criminals, resulting in another chase. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUI_vhFX...jpg&name=small And meanwhile, Saruhara ends up in N?Kosopa just as Yanma and Jeramie are engaging in a prank war. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUI_vhOX...jpg&name=small And Saruhara proves utterly unwilling to put up with any of Yanma?s usual bullcrap. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJABU4W...jpg&name=small And for added impertinence, the wabisabi monkey sits on the throne of N?Kosopa and recites a haiku. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJABU1W...jpg&name=small This causes Jeramie to cancel the intruder alert and befriend Saruhara, giving him a poem (Japanese poems tend not to rhyme, even in the original language. They instead focus on structure). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJABUvW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJABU6W...jpg&name=small As Yanma begins to (figuratively, thankfully enough) foam at the mouth, we change scenes to Ishabana, where Hymeno and Rita are watching a live action adaptation of Together with Moffun. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJAZdIW...jpg&name=small Rita does their usual cry of frustration, which causes Hymeno worry. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJAZdKW...jpg&name=small It turns out that they like it, but they interpreted the dialogue to be foreshadowing that Moffun is going to die (clearly Rita is familiar with Netflix?s formula for live action adaptations). At this point, Haruka and Sonoza are teleported in, and offer their professional insight on the show. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJAZdCX...jpg&name=small As Ohno enters to begin his isekai adventures, Haruka says her exact opinion of the show. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJAZdLX...jpg&name=small But Rita takes this like Haruka killed their mom, or something. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJBpiqW...jpg&name=small Haruka thus explains in detail that in her honest opinion, a kid show should prioritise that target audience of kids over adults who obsess over it (given how Young Justice and EMH got the axe due to poor sales to kids, while TTG is still going strong and Avengers Assemble is the longest running Marvel cartoon, despite both shows being lower regarded than the adult fans for the former two, she has a point) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJBpiiW...jpg&name=small Unfortunately, Sonoza agrees with Rita that a kids show should be written with an adult audience in mind. (Guy has clearly never seen Ultraman Nexus) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJBpijW...jpg&name=small Fortunately, Hymeno agrees that a kids show should be aimed at kids. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJClAIW...jpg&name=small She also points out that ?The world is mofu mofu? isn?t necessarily a hint that the character will die (especially considering how many kids shows generally don?t have death as more than a vaguely alluded to concept) or even an especially deep line. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJClAIX...jpg&name=small Ohno meanwhile is annoyed that they?re focusing on this argument instead of him and transforms into Ohsamaki again (Shouldn?t the other Donbrothers be instantly summoned here already transformed to beat him down?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJClATX...jpg&name=small In Toufu, Jiro beats his way past all the Kuroko guards, which prompts an unusually battle hungry Kaguragi to accept his challenge of a wrestling match (nice to know its not just the Donbrothers characters and concepts getting mangled). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJDgh5W...jpg&name=small As for Kijino, he ended up in Gokkan, where he?s currently talking to Rcules and Suzume within their cell. (Did the guards allow him in, or was he just teleported in?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJDgh6W...jpg&name=small As Suzume sympathises with Kijino being separated from Natsumi, Rcules actually offers a solution to this whole dimension crossing mess. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJDgh0W...jpg&name=small No, not the Sentai in the current team position (you?ll note I?vetaken great care not to call them that, just like early advertising for the show did), but their mecha. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEJoRW...jpg&name=small But Kijino has PTSD from the time Don King-Ohger blew him away as Hyakujuuking (back in Donbrothers 45) and runs away. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEJoSX...jpg&name=small And because we only have 26 minutes to this plot, and we?re only 12 in, it?s time to unite both teams in Haakabaaka. First, Yanma attaches the Thundercaller to both Saruhara and Jeramie. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEJoRX...jpg&name=small (They really missed an opportunity to have Taro meet with Yanma and get subjected to this machine) Saruhara and Jeramie instantly kill each other with fake compliments, but not before they drag Yanma down with them. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEJoRW...jpg&name=small Tsubasa and Sononi run over a hole in a bridge, and fall to their doom. (Were there no signs in front of this bridge? That seems like an accident waiting to happen) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEsrFW...jpg&name=small Kijino freezes to death in the frozen wasteland that is Gokkan. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEsrFW...jpg&name=small And Kaguragi and Jiro die by? bumping their bellies against each other. (Okay, these deaths have gone from silly to just plain contrived) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEsrIX...jpg&name=small And finally, the quartet in Ishabana get slaughtered by Ohno. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJEsrJX...jpg&name=small And back to Haakabaaka, Gira has inexplicably decided that Taro is to blame (yet as Taro points out, it was Gira who decided to wolf down a kibi dango without chewing it) for his premature death. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFNEaX...jpg&name=small And then the others show up and egg on this madness. (So we?re basically trying to parody a plot point that these movies haven?t used since Zyuoh vs Ninnin, SEVEN YEARS AGO) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFNEbW...jpg&name=small Cue the transformation from the start of the movie. OhgerCaliber: You are the king! You Are The! YOU ARE THE KING! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFNEeW...jpg&name=small And so a fight between the matchups we?ve seen through this movie ensues, with Yanma and Jeramie fighting Saruhara in ghost!N?Kosopa. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFNEhW...jpg&name=small And Kijino joins in to try and prevent King-Ohger from making an appearance. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFtlGW...jpg&name=small Meanwhile in ghost!Ishabana, Haruka and Hymeno continue their debate with Rita and Sonoza on audience. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFtlrb...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFtlFW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJFtk9W...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGSoxX...jpg&name=small And Kaguragi and Jiro likewise have a full on wrestling match in ghost!Toufu (which is, yes, perpetually on fire. It makes sense in context). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGSo2X...jpg&name=small And Kaguragi knocks the Ryuko Halberd into its axe mode, allowing Crazy Jiro to take over (which shouldn't happen, since that personality merged into Jiro in-series. Did Takano even watch more than a handful of episodes of Donbros?) and automatically transforms him into Don Torabolt. (Which is again, not how that works. See the video before for the how.) https://youtube.com/watch?v=sriJjjK_...noMQIajbhnrkEX https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGSpLW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGSpTW...jpg&name=small As Tsubasa and Sononi ponder how superfluous they are to these proceedings, Ohno shows up and beats up all these matchups single-handedly. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGulcX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGulgW...jpg&name=small That just leaves the two reds, who decide to put it on hold to beat this guy. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJGuliX...jpg&name=small But before Ohno can beat them, Master Kaito appears and shoots him (what?s he doing in what is essentially Hell? Shut up, that?s what) Master Kaito: Himitsu no Power Black! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHO3HW...jpg&name=small He then spontaneously generates a cardboard box (even with his endless supply of everything, this bit doesn?t really make sense as more than a Deus ex Machina), from which emerges a repaint of the Ohger Crown, themed around Donbrothers. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHO3OW...jpg&name=small This grants both Reds their respective super forms, but with the other?s chest plates (and some red paint splattered over the GolDon Momotaro chest, which does not look as impressive as the creators thought it did. It looks like he got shot wearing the outfit) https://youtube.com/watch?v=ieNw-azH...XPMr0rnrJhUSN1 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHO3HW...jpg&name=small Taro then bids the Donbrothers introduce themselves. Taro: Avataro Sentai? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHdkLW...jpg&name=small They then rush into battle before Gira can likewise introduce his team. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHdkLW...jpg&name=small One short and fairly unremarkable fight later (a fairly common issue wih King-Ohger, unfortunately), the two Reds use their Ohger Crown Lances to kill Ohno with a combo attack. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHdkRX...jpg&name=small This has the effect of reviving him back on Earth, just as the cop is about to perform CPR (at least someone knows proper medical procedure). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHdkMX...jpg&name=small Back in Haakabaaka, the fight between the Ohsama Sentai and Donbrothers ends as abruptly as it started. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHxIRW...jpg&name=small Jeramie tries to point out that there wasn?t much of a plot to all this, but unfortunately, nobody listens. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHxISW...jpg&name=small As the others return to life, Taro and Gira pay a visit to an old friend of the former. Namely, Sonoi. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJHxIeX...jpg&name=small I f*cking called it!!!! As Sonoi gives a lecture on how nobody ever really dies as long as they leave a legacy, the two Reds return to life after trying the Oden. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIFzuW...jpg&name=small And just as Taro gave up on him, we find out that Giichan WAS in Haakabaaka. Under Sonoi?s care no less. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIFzsX...jpg&name=small And we find out how Gira survived his death (because like I said, Taro?s is temporary by design and the others went through deaths that are pretty survivable with good enough medical aid): Boone doing the same cockamamie method Taro tried earlier. Only this time, it worked. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIFz0W...jpg&name=small Over the credits (which come with a song. I just don?t know what it?s called or how to find it on YouTube), the Donbrothers are shown around the other 4 kingdoms, taking in the local culture. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIoAtW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIoAuW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIoAmX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJIoAkW...jpg&name=small Rcules and Suzume make one last appearance, making me wonder what was even the damn point of having them show up earlier (Rcules? comment about King-Ohger sending everyone home went nowhere) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJJ5xSW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJJ5xXX...jpg&name=small In Haakabaaka, Sonoi lays out glasses for Iroki, Grodie and Deathnarok (the idea of the former two drinking together makes more sense, if you?re familiar with the behind the scenes of the characters) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJJ5xVX...jpg&name=small We then find out why the truck crashed into Ohno (which I pointed out earlier) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJJ5xQW...jpg&name=small Douga proceeds to swallow and choke on a kibi dango (thankfully, Boone is right there to save him) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJKZ15X...jpg&name=small Kijino then either explains how they?re going to get back to Earth, or sets up the second part of this double feature. (Decide for yourself) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJKZ15X...jpg&name=small And Jeramie ends this not on a ?happily ever after?, but on his famous line. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJKZ18X...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUJKZ14W...jpg&name=small Final thoughts: Honestly, not really a good movie. Most of it is very much what a guy who hates Donbrothers or barely paid attention to it would tell you it?s all about, and what few elements resembled the show were done better in vs Zenkaiger. The interactions with the kings were minimal, bordering on non-existent, and the whole thing devolved into a fight for really dumb reasons, that ends just as abruptly for equally dumb reasons. About the only things I have to praise here is Saruhara not taking Yanma?s bullshit and the discussion over what makes a good kid?s show between the yellows and their besties. Join me next time, where I?ll be reviewing the second half of this feature, Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger vs Kyoryuger. And depending on whether or not I can actually contact him, I might have Fish Sandwich providing additional commentary (though I?m leaning towards the ?not? outcome, which is no great loss) |

It's about to get wild, just try and stop this latest instalment of:
Androzani?s Tsukai Detour (Wait, that seems familiar somehow) And I ended up ?not? getting Fish Sandwich, so instead I?m dedicating to him my review of? Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger vs Kyoryuger https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr-p_X...jpg&name=small (Or, Utchy and Prince?s Great Adventure, or Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger 10 Year Anniversary Carnival, feat. King-Ohger) So I already explained who the main Kyoryuger lineup was back when I reviewed Kyoryuger vs Go-Busters, so here?s a discussion of both who appears here, but not there (along with whoever from King-Ohger wasn?t in VS Donbrothers) Kyoryugers: Ramirez/KyoryuCyan: In life, Ramirez lived during the Dark Ages 500 years ago. He was called upon by Torin to become KyoryuCyan and partner with Ankydon in order to fight, and eventually destroy, the revived Debo Monster Debo Viruson. Having died in battle, Ramirez lingered on as a spirit which was connected to Ankydon's Zyudenchi. In the present, Ramirez appeared before Torin to present the Kyoryugers with Ankydon at the same time Debo Batissier was attacking. He soon joined the Kyoryugers in their battles as an occasional ally, but with his spirit energy significantly drained, he was forced to pass on Ankydon?s power to Yuko Fukui, as he travels to Deboth Hell to assist Torin in destroying the Debo Spirits within the dimension. Tessai/KyoryuGray: He is the Clashing Brave (激突の勇者 Gekitotsu no Yūsha) and was the first Kyoryuger in existence, being active 1500 years ago in China. He was from a martial arts clan that mastered the Iron-Shattering Fist (鉄砕拳 Tessaiken), and has emerged into the present day as a Spirit to teach the Kyoryugers said technique and strengthen their bodies. His signature finishing move is the Furious Bash (激烈突破 Gekiretsu Toppa) technique. He arrived to give an announcement to the Kyoryugers: his partner Bunpachy has awakened and has been waiting for so long to join them. But, he would only let them have Bunpachy on the condition that they become stronger through his trials. He used the power of the Guardians to test the core 5 Kyoryugers (Utsusemimaru did not participate, for he was able to improve himself in battle before Tessai's arrival) and their specialties; Ovirappoo was used to test Ian's marksmanship, Igeranodon was used on Nobuharu to see if his sense of humor gets in the way of his super-strength, Archenolon was used on Souji to test his swordsmanship, and Gurumonite was used on Amy to see if she can concentrate on her kicks. In the end, they all learned from the experience Ian learned to shoot on instinct, Nobuharu learned to focus on the task instead of joking, Souji overcame the gravity field and improved his form, and Amy used the dizziness to perform spinning kicks. Daigo had the hardest trial of all, with every effect the others had individually piled on him all at once. However, the result of the training was a huge disappointment for Tessai as only Daigo could not harm Debo Nagareboshi, even though he completed his trial with almost no effort. After the enemy fled, he regarded the Kyoryugers with pride, explaining that his colour grey has a meaning; the ashen colour of grey is a perfect mixture of black and white (yin and yang), and that the Kyoryugers have now learned this lesson, save for Daigo. Burning in anger, he threw Daigo and aggressively told the others to not help him before performing a Ki attack on him. Tessai then told Torin to remove Daigo from being KyoryuRed and chose Utchy as the new leader. He stated the reason why Daigo cannot win is because he is already strong and does not have a weakness, which is important to have so people can become stronger. When Daigo asked how he is supposed to find his weakness, Tessai simply replied that he did not know or care. Tessai departed, leaving Daigo with his injuries. Daigo was hospitalised, but left even with his injuries. Tessai used this chance to attack Daigo, telling Daigo to meet him in the Twilight Forest if he wants to redeem himself. Daigo accepted and travelled to the forest. Tessai challenges Daigo using a multitude of illusions. Once Daigo and Tessai met face to face, Tessai told Daigo that he is not getting stronger because his fearlessness was holding him back. He made a wager with Daigo; if he can even scratch his "notoriously hard head", then he will release Daigo from the illusions and let him resume his duty as a Kyoryuger. Tessai attacks Daigo with his "Furious Bash", which knocked Daigo into the rivers. A fisherman convinces Daigo to fight by making Daigo realise how foolish his fearlessness truly was. Daigo and Tessai fought head on until it reached the point where they used the same technique against each other, Daigo finally putting a small crack in Tessai's helmet. As per their agreement, Tessai released Daigo. When Kyoryuzin fights Debo Nagareboshi, the fisherman appeared and revealed himself to be Tessai (sporting a bandage where Daigo's attack hit), and transformed into KyoryuGray. He then entrusted the team with Bunpachy, allowing them to form Kyoryuzin Kung-Fu. After Kyoryuzin defeated Nagareboshi, Tessai returned to China, where Ramirez was waiting for him. The two discussed the final two members of the Ten Great Zyudenryu; Plezuon and Bragigas. Tessai said that while Plezuon would be returning very soon, Bragigas would be a challenge, and offers to help in the search. With that, the two departed to find the final Zyudenryu. While replenishing his spirit, he found the author of Love be Ball Touchdown, Shinya Tsukouchi, whom he deduced was his descendant, going by their similar physical appearance. Tessai became upset with him due to him asking Amy to pose as Yuu Aoyagi (Shinya's pen name) to visit a sick fan (who, unbeknownst to any of them, was actually Luckyuro), thinking he was not being honest to his fan. Tessai later appeared to Shinya posing as a ghost, coercing him to visit his fan. While Shinya was on his way, he sees Beautiful Zoreamer attack a woman and stepped in to save her as Tessai, convinced that his descendant's heart is in the right place, manages to regain his Spirit Power. Before the final battle begins, Tessai chose Shinya as his replacement to be KyoryuGray before he and Ramirez left to help Torin in dealing with the Debo Monsters in hell. Prince/King KyoryuRed: A teenager from the future who was sent back to the 2020s to awaken his abilities as the ?next generation warrior with the strongest brave?. On the surface Prince is a headstrong opportunist who enjoys doing daring and competitive things but deep down inside he is a curious young man seeking answers to his questions. It is eventually revealed that his real name is Daigoro Kiryu. Allies: Shiokara: Yanma?s aide. Sometime before the beginning of the series, Shiokara was a cold-blooded criminal who attacked Yanma after Yanma invented a device that could spot counterfeit money that Shiokara and his gang had created. At this time, Shiokara had no faith in the future of N'Kosopa, believing the kingdom was done for. Meeting Yanma eventually led Shiokara to turn his life around; growing to admire Yanma's personality, he stood by Yanma's side as the latter eventually rose to rebuild N'Kosopa and become its king. Shiokara was still loyal to Yanma after the construction of N'Kosopa, and would blindly follow his orders, even if he knew Yanma may not survive. Shiokara was forced into kingship after Yanma's arrest, however this was fairly short lived, as the King-Ohgers broke out of Gokkan's prison quickly. He is still as loyal as ever, but sometimes now defies Yanma's orders, if it means saving his life, becoming more of a free thinker to help the one he cares about most. Shiokara is a very kind, polite person, to the point he and Yanma can be seen as polar opposites. Shiokara will often apologize on Yanma's behalf, trying to act as a mediator between Yanma and whoever he's offended with his rudeness. Despite this, Shiokara still greatly respects Yanma to the point of idolizing him, to the point that Shiokara is ready to risk his life to prevent the destruction of Yanma's Top Computer, despite being under Hirubiru?s brainwashing at that time. Sebastian: Hymeno?s seemingly elderly butler, who is actually a man in his mid-twenties. Born Romane Dearborn, of the Duke of Ishabana's thousand-year-old Dearborn family, he was a charming young man with a kind heart, whose looks were beyond dazzling and won the hearts of the people around him, with some even fainting in his presence. Unfortunately, the people's extreme reactions towards his beauty proved too much for him, and he began to see his looks as a sin, as he was unable to be himself in front of others truly. Three years before the start of the series, he was contemplating disfiguring himself when he was stopped by Hymeno herself, who took him in as her butler. He was given the name "Sebastian" and subjected to a makeover to look older, thus freeing him from the burden of his beauty. Sebastian takes his job as Hymeno's butler very seriously, acting with grace and good manners befitting a gentlemanly butler. he even changed his appearance to look older due to Hymeno's desire for him to appear more like a stereotypical butler. Sebastian goes along with Hymeno's excessive self-indulgence because he knows she has good intentions behind it all, but that doesn't stop him from worrying about it occasionally. Post-time skip, Sebastian is shown to have become much more self-indulgent and can be seen overeating on multiple occasions. It is not until Hymeno's return that he is snapped back to his senses, returning to his former self. Morfonya: The bailiff of Gokkan who serves as Rita?s assistant and heir. She met Rita at law school after being abandoned by her criminal parents when they escaped from jail. Morfonya herself aspires to become the next Supreme Judge of Gokkan to show the world that her past didn't define what her future would be. Although, after God?s Wrath, Rita ended up becoming the new Supreme Judge, replacing Karras Dehaan. Morfonya ended up as Rita's personal aide. While Morfonya generally has a positive demeanor, overall she is a lazy person who'd prefer to slack off rather than do her job. Despite this laziness, she is still quite competent and is a reliable ally to Rita. Uchuu: A group of mysterious cosmic beings who exist to create conflicts between lifeforms of the universe to entertain their leaders. Dagded Dujardin: The Space Bug King who created all insect lifeforms, giving him the ability to control them. He is a cosmic being whose purpose is to destroy planets to maintain order in the universe. However, he grew bored of his duties and decided to make a game out of it, planting seeds of chaos on every world he is meant to destroy and observe the planet's occupants destroying themselves for his amusement. At some point, he found the original Bugnarak planet and made contacts with the citizens. For reasons unknown, they requested his aid, and he responded by bringing one of their dead back as an undead servant, Grodie. He then used Grodie to destroy their planet and turn it into a completely uninhabitable world, prompting the survivors to find another world. Afterwards, his latest "project" would eventually be Chikyu when he noticed a group of humans migrating to it from another planet and came in contact with the surviving Bugnarak race, sending Kamejim and Grodie to force a war between the two races. They successfully convince the Bugnarak to consume large quantity of Shugod souls, forever mutating the race to appear more insect like. At the same time, the Shugoddam king Reiniol Husty was told the Bugnarak were evil conquerors who would bring Chikyu to ruin, prompting him into rallying the other founding kings to waging war on the Bugnarak. Dagded would later make himself known to Reiniol and from that point on, the kings of Shugoddam were forced to follow Dagded's orders to inflict the chaos he thrives on. Dagded made his first appearance in Shugoddam during the reign of Causus Husty, who requested the power to eliminate his enemies. Dagded complied by using his power to magically impregnate Causus' wife with the child that would be born as Gira Husty. Seventeen years before of the main story, having Kamejim and Grodie eliminate Causus upon learning of his betray and conceal their act by causing the God?s Wrath incident, Dagded appeared in front of the humiliated Rcules Husty to appoint him as the new Shugoddam king in time for the prophesied re-appearance of the Bugnarak Empire. Following the coronation of Gira during the final days of the Ohsama Sentai's battle with Naraka King Desnarak VIII, Dagded traveled to Hakabaka afterwards and destroyed Reiniol's spirit on a whim. After helping the revived Deboth Army conquer Earth, Dagded returns to Chikyu to force Gira into renewing the human/Bugnarak conflict. But when the Shuggodam king declares war, Dagded decides to force his way on the rulers by forcing the new Bugnarak king Jeramie Brasieri into taking the blame for Hirubiru Leech's manipulating the rulers' aides into attacking them. But the Ohsama Sentai turn the table by having Dagded confess on live television to clear the Bugnarak of all wrongdoing, only for Dagded to retaliate by teleporting the Ohsama Sentai to Earth while having his Jesters and Rcules take over the planet. Once Rcules was appointed as the new member of Uchu Five Jesters, and revealed Gira's origins to all of Chikyuu, Rcules requested Dagded to give him the power to kill immortal beings, in order to kill Gira. To that point, Rcules had laid traps in the form of Bomb Cushions under the remaining monarchs? (save for Kaguragi) thrones, so that they would not be able to interfere. After much convincing, Dagded agreed on the condition of Rcules personally defeat Gira in Trial by Combat. After Rcules won the third, and final Trial by Combat with the help of Kaguragi, Dagded appeared and as promised, bestowed the Immortal Slayer power to Rcules' Ohgercalibur ZERO. This proved to be the starting point of his demise, as Rcules ended up slashing Dagded instead. Rcules then convinced Gira to defeat Dagded first before anything else. And with that, they both transformed into OhKuwagata Ohger and Kuwagata Ohger respectively to battle the Uchu King. Despite the new power Rcules gained, Dagded was still unfazed and managed to critically injure Rcules with his barrage of energy swords. However, Gira ultimately succeeded in striking Dagded down using Rcules's Ohgercalibur ZERO. Dagded madly cackled as his body explodes into a golden mist, seemingly ending his reign of terror. However, Dagded would have one final trick up his sleeve, as it turned out that he had incubated a spare body within Minongan Moth's husk. Using time manipulation to accelerate his growth, Dagded would be fully revived once Minongan's husk was struck open by the King-Ohgers, allowing him to fully re-emerge in his matured form. Dagded mocked the KingOhgers for their failure in truly killing him before leaving with Minongan. But driven mad by refusing to accept his earlier demise, Dagded decides to freeze Chikyu in a moment of utter despair as an addition to his "collection" of worlds. With most of the member of Five Space Bug Jesters dead except for Kamejim, Dagded ended up visiting the Caucasuskabuto Castle to combat the monarchs directly while they were planning how to defeat him permanently. When he overheard they had 24 hours to finalize their plan, he jokingly remarked to them "What would happen if I decided to attack right now!?" before fighting them. However, since all the Kings had left their King's Proof Items to their aides so that they, alongside with the rest of Chikyu's inhabitants could escape to other planet (referred as Evacuation plan Zero), they lacked the power to overwhelm Dagded, even after using their Ryouga Issen technique. Dagded ended up summoning several meteor showers to grievously damage the King-Ohgers, leaving Gira standing alone due to his immortality. At first, Dagded successfully brought Gira to despair by revealing that he sabotaged the evacuation plan, However, the Chikyu inhabitants, unanimously decided to rebel against their monarchs to end Dagded's eons of tyranny. As they stormed the battlefield, Dagded revived massive amounts of Bugnarak Kaijim to battle the oppositions, turning the battle into pandemonium. However, the Chikyu inhabitants gained massive reinforcements, thanks to Devonica, who temporarily brought back Desnarak VIII, Hymeno's parents, Karras Dehaan, Iroki, Boshimar, and even Reiniol Husty from Hakabaka. The newly arrived reinforcements allowed the Ohsama Sentai to recuperate from their wounds and also destroy the rest of Dagded's revived Kaijim, much to the latter's fury. Left with no other choice after Kamejim's demise at the hands of Desnarak, Dagded turned himself gigantic, growing to be bigger than the size of the universe itself. Gira then asked the Chikyu inhabitants to share their life altogether, thanks to Kofuki cracking the code of the "Immortal Life" replacement from Reiniol Husty's final words. With all the King's proof assembled, a galactic-sized God King-Ohger is formed and soon follows Dagded into his domain for the inevitable final battle. The final battle occurred with Dagded exclaiming that everything in this universe is his own. Only to be rebuked by Gira, who proclaimed that this universe is owned by many tiny lives who inherited its will, passing it through generations to come, and connect their stories forever. Gira also exclaimed that since Dagded is leisurely caging himself within his domain, it's ironically showed how weak and small he actually is. The Shugods ended up resonating with the Kings' wills and automatically attacked the Space Bug King without the King-Ohger controls, sacrificing their bodies to destroy Dagded's domain, ultimately stripping the Space Bug King of his omnipotence and immortality. As the dying Dagded returned to Chikyu, his head crystal shattered. The Ohsama Sentai arrived and delivered the final blow to Dagded's main body. Even with Dagded's final act of resistance, his main body was finally destroyed, killing him permanently. Kamejim Unka, the Ostentatious: One of the Five Space Bug Jesters, Kamejim was sent to Chikyu 2000 years ago to incite war between humans and Bugnarak by posing as Prime Minister to the latter faction?s rulers and the Shugoddam King?s right hand sword, Boshimar, for the former. After being exposed, with the war ending peacefully, Kamejim was returned to Dagded?s domain, where he was punished for his failure to maintain the conflict by being bound. During Dagded?s subsequent assault on the planet, Kamejim?s major actions included freeing Grodie from the frozen seal he was placed in by Karras de Haan and assuming control of Ishabana using his disguise powers to impersonate Hymeno. Outlasting the other Jesters, Kamejim was sent to wipe out the survivors of Chikyu during their attempted evacuation while Dagded dealt with the Ohsama Sentai. But he was foiled in this, and eventually dragged down to the afterlife by Desnarak VIII. Kamejim is a highly manipulative and cruel individual who instigated the conflict between humans and Bugnarak as part of the Uchu's plan to "tidy up" the universe. Kamejim is highly skilled at deceiving people, not only fooling everyone into believing he was the real Boshimar, but was also merely pretending to be Desnarak VIII's ally. When the combined efforts of Jeramie Brasieri and Gira force Desnarak VIII to see the error of his ways, Kamejim heartlessly murders Desnarak VIII and claims that the very idea of a peaceful resolution makes him sick. Despite his cruelty, Kamejim was legitimately caught off guard when Desnarak VIII revealed his plan to destroy the planet and was against the idea. Gouma Rosalia, the Shady: A ninja member of the Five Space Bug Jesters, with the abilities to swap anything, be it minds or positions in space. He was placed in charge of Gokkan during the absence of the Ohsama Sentai, but was driven away after Minogan?s failed plot. After this, the 5 Jesters gathered in N?Kosopa, where they fruitlessly attempted to prevent the kings from inserting their new supercomputer which would boost their power output. Due to a post-hypnotic suggestion by Hirubiru, Gouma was unable to escape, and was subsequently slain by the Ohsama Sentai?s new Ryouga Issen power. Hirubiru Leech the Enticing: A member of the Five Space Bug Jesters with the power to persuade almost anyone to do anything with her voice alone (the exception being Kaguragi, who is such a good liar he deceives himself into believing that he is already under her influence). She took control of N?Kosopa and brainwashed the populace into working to destroy all the computers, in the hope that one of them would be the master computer controlling all of Chikyu?s technology. Once Dagded successfully revived inside of Minongan?s body, he quickly went insane and started punishing the remaining Jesters for their incompetence, since Dagded had died once. Dagded then ordered them to kill all the people on Chikyuu, so that the planet itself could be put inside of his collection. Hirubiru ended up brainwashing everyone in Shugoddam, including the KingOhgers (except for Gira, who was naturally immune to her brainwashing due to his insect side and Kaguragi, who was as deceitful as ever) to battle each other to reach 'The Top'. The country soon falls into anarchy, while all the monarchs except Gira became busy in battling each other for the leadership of the Squadron. In the end, Yanma Gast ended up winning due to already unlocking the power of his own King?s Proof. As an enraged Gira battled Hirubiru, Kaguragi showed up and quickly attacked Hirubiru as well. Kaguragi then prompted Gira to save Yanma first. Hirubiru ended up using her own power to self-persuade herself into becoming Giant Sized, declaring that everyone just needs to die for her. As Gira and the now conscious Yanma summoned King-Ohger, Hirubiru attacked them out of annoyance. However, thanks to Gira and Yanma unlocking their own King?s Proof, all of Hirubiru?s attacks were successfully deflected. Hirubiru turned into a liquid state in order to crush the robot, but Yanma redirected lightning to the robot, paralyzing Hirubiru as well as solidifying her. Ultimately, with a swing of King-Ohger?s sword, imbued with massive amounts of electricity, Hirubiru was finally killed for good. Minongan Moth the Concealed: An artificial lifeform created by Dagded as an incubator to facilitate his resurrection, were he ever killed, by distorting time. As a side effect, Minongan has no original thoughts, and is essentially an idiot. In the end, he was incinerated by Kaguragi?s King?s Proof, while Rita used theirs to freeze the remains, preventing him from coming back, even with his powers. Grodie Leucodium the Serene: A primal Bugnarak brought back from the dead by Dagded, and granted eternal life and necromancy powers. Resenting his never-ending existence and how humans were happy with their normal lives, Grodie instigated God?s Wrath, reviving hundreds of locust Shugods to ravage the planet, and using the poison from God Scorpion to taint Toufu?s produce and assassinate the Ishabana ruling couple. He was sealed by Karras de Haan as a punishment for his actions, but was freed by Kamejim and Minongan, who convinced him to follow Dagded by promising him that the planet would be destroyed fully, rather than just a single species. During Dagded?s takeover of Chikyu, Grodie was given control of Toufu, reanimating Iroki as a figurehead while he set to work poisoning the food once more. Eventually once Hymeno learned Grodie?s true nature as an undead monster, she enlisted Jeramie into using the power of his King's Proof to give the jester true life so they could kill him. However, driven mad from being alive again after regaining his memories, Grodie?s power greatly increases as he decides to cause a second God?s Wrath to wipe out everyone. But the Ohsama Sentai made preparations to reduce causalities while averting the calamity, forcing Grodie to personally destroy Chikyu as a giant. However, he was killed off by God King-Ohger. Ending up at Hakabaka after death, Grodie was initially happy to be finally dead and attain a silent world at last. But his joy was short-lived as he is tormented by the ghosts who reside in that realm, denied the silence he wanted forevermore. By the time Kamejim was sent to Hakabaka by Desnarak VIII, Grodie signaled his fellow Jester to remain silent, having already accepted his fate without putting up much resistance. Now then, I?ll skip the opinion stuff, since I?ve already talked about it, and I intend to recap the Kyoryuger episodes of King-Ohger as we go on. As for staff, this was Ohmori?s swan song at Toei, and while original Kyoryuger director Koichi Sakamoto returned, the writing was instead handled by Toei staff writer Kaori Kaneko (best known for being the head writer for Kamen Rider Saber?s spin off material). So with all of that (admittedly less than the usual fare) stuff said, let?s get on with the review. We open with Yanma, Hymeno, Rita, Kaguragi and Jeramie, all looking different somehow (did they get haircuts?) held captive by Sanagim (the henchmen of the Bugnarak and the Uchuu, though less willingly in the latter case). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr61vW...jpg&name=small And who should show up to save them? Why, Daigo ?King? Kiryu, in a surprise appearance (He missed out on the Kyoryuger episodes due to Ryo Ryusei?s busy schedule, only appearing as a voiceover). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr615W...jpg&name=small He then transforms so he can save them properly. Gaburevolver: Gaburincho: Gabutyra! Daigo: Kyoryu Change! Fire! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr613X...jpg&name=small We then see just who captured the Kings? and it?s not who you think. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr61kW...jpg&name=small And aside from the high collar and calling himself the Space Bug King, Gira is wielding the OhgerCaliber ZERO, used by his more villainous ancestors/brother. Which he proceeds to use to transform. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr742W...jpg&name=small (Note: This version of the transformation phrase substitutes the kanji for skeleton/corpse for the kanji for king armour. So a rough translation of that pun would be ?Skeletal Raiment?, or ?Royal Remains?) https://youtube.com/watch?v=p6q6kaO0...3wJAIHrXkRkFPP (Note here that Gira?s transformation omits the ?Ohkuwagata? and ?Ohkuwagata-Ohger? parts of the transformation jingle heard in the video, a function that will likely only be included in the upcoming Memorial release. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr74XX...jpg&name=small As Daigo battles evil!Gira (who will henceforth be referred to as Jakkou, for maximum punnage), Utchy watches from the sideline, lamenting that this scenario is this fault. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr74aX...jpg&name=small He then meets up with Yayoi aboard Plezuon, who has prepped to help with that mission. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr74RX...jpg&name=small https://youtube.com/watch?v=ifzk3z2c...jN42jEIQIS0o1a Plezuon clears the planet as Daigo and Jakkou?s sword slashes generate enough of a background explosion to destroy the entirety of Chikyu (Jesus), and enter a time warp. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr9EJW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr9EIW...jpg&name=small We then get a title sequence in which the Kyoryuger narrator asks us how things got this bad, and recapping how King-Ohger and the Kyoryugers previously worked together to defeat Dagded?s Deboth revival. Then he takes us back to the beginning. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr-qUW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr-qVW...jpg&name=small Two years ago, Dagded attacked Earth with a new Deboth Army (At least one person I know theorised that he created them, but it?s just as likely Deboth?s butterfly motif let him fall under Dagded?s insect-controlling powers) and unleashed the monster Debo Senking (a play on ?Senki?, Japanese for ?Knight? and ?King?) to steal the Brave of the populace to revive Deboth. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTr-qOW...jpg&name=small Daigo and Itchy then reprise their one line of dialogue from the featured episode (33, to be precise). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsCi9W...jpg&name=small No sooner have they left does Debo Senking succeed in stealing the power from the remaining 4. (And Deboth captured the Zyudenryu, so they can?t recharge that way) But enough re-contextualising old footage, let?s cut to Daigo?s party as they catch up with Dagded. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsCioX...jpg&name=small Unfortunately, all three of them are outmatched, but that doesn?t stop Daigo?s ?just try and stop us? philosophy from kicking in. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsCi9X...jpg&name=small In fact, Dagded likes him so much he seals him inside an amber pendant. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsFfTW...jpg&name=small Utchy and Yayoi try to free him, but Dagded banishes them through time with a wave of his hand, before leaving to check up on the other Chikyu (as seen in episode 27 of King-Ohger). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsFfZW...jpg&name=small Plezuon and its crew emerge on Earth, where Zorima are everywhere and the potato sack chic look is in. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsGgbW...jpg&name=small And for added scariness, Utchy discovers his own grave (evidently, no-one would pay for marble, since all he gets is this log). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsGgWW...jpg&name=small He gets pulled aside by Amy and a young man, who inform him that Deboth took over in the 20 years since Dagded left. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsGgaW...jpg&name=small As for the young man? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsHvQW...jpg&name=small Amy reveals that if they can send Prince back in time to before Deboth took over and awaken his great potential, they can avert this horrible future. She then reveals the boy?s parents to be her and Daigo. Utchy picks up on the implications fast. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsHvMX...jpg&name=small The pair return to the now repaired and modified for time travel Plezuon, where Yayoi learns just how horrible this future timeline is. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsIojX...jpg&name=small Before they can set a course for the present, Utchy whacks into the console, sending it haywire (get used to this. It?ll be a running gag). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsIolW...jpg&name=small Utchy is then thrown from Plezuon mid-flight. He ends up in another timeline, where the Kyoryugers have different haircuts and colours (At least he didn?t end up in the one where they?re all Americans, New Zealanders or New Zealanders pretending to be Americans. He?d never escape the event horizon of that). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsIobW...jpg&name=small While Yayoi goes looking for Utchy, Prince carries on to 2023 (two years after Deboth reappeared, but whatever), with nothing on his back but clothes and a GaburiCalibur. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsJ9kW...jpg&name=small He soon comes across Souji as they fight off Zorima attacking members of the Resistance together. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsJ9iX...jpg&name=small He then gets Souji to train him by passing on a note from Future!Daigo. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsJ9nW...jpg&name=small Utchy returns to the present a few weeks later (how, I don?t know. There?s no indication Yayoi rescued him), and bares witness as Prince, with the help of some Kings from another planet named Chikyu (Japanese for ?Earth?) awakens his power, restores that of the others and defeats the revived Kabuto Bushin Deboth with the help of another set of powerful animals. (As seen in King-Ohger 33) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsL_JW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsL_GW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsL_LW...jpg&name=small https://youtube.com/watch?v=NG_nQzmO...UMBEN0it1lqD1o https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsL_HX...jpg&name=small Utchy regroups with Prince after Gira?s party leaves (unknowingly taking Gabutyra with them, as revealed in episode 34), only for the latter to start Back-to-the-Future-ing. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsPCCW...jpg&name=small Utchy brings him back to Yayoi, who points out that since Daigo is still Dagded?s captive, Prince?s existence is threatened. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsPCIX...jpg&name=small They set off for Chikyu? only for Utchy to bang the console, again (How damn sensitive is that thing?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsPCKW...jpg&name=small But this time, things go smoothly and they arrive on Chikyu? 17 years too early, as Rcules is introducing Gira to what will become known as Rainbow Jururira. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsQJJW...jpg&name=small As Rcules leaves upon request from Boshimar (a character so insignificant to King-Ohger I didn?t even list him in the characters section), Utchy takes pity on the sad baby Gira and gives him more Rainbow Jururira (where that came from, considering what Gira ate was God Kuwagata?s liquified Shugod Soul, is a question better left unanswered). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsQJHX...jpg&name=small But then he gets called back to Plezuon by Yayoi before he can see the kid enjoy his pudding. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsRBTW...jpg&name=small As they set off once more into the mists of time, Yayoi isn?t shy about making clear who she blames for their problems. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsRBRW...jpg&name=small As Utchy apologises, noting that he?s getting sentimental in his old age, we see the results of Utchy?s brief presence in the wrong place at the wrong time: Gira rapidly ages and transforms into Jakkou, killing Dagded during God?s Wrath to take his place as the Space Bug King (on the plus side, Daigo never gets captured and the Deboth revival never happens). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsRBXW...jpg&name=small As a result, the Chikyu the gang returns to is a lot more uninviting. (Seriously, how polluted is the new timeline?s Chikyu to look purple from space?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsR7yW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsR7eX...jpg&name=small As Utchy and Prince disembark, they?re greeted by Jeramie, now wearing a zoot suit and speaking English every third word. (Apparently, this is meant to be a parody of Japanese tour guides, which? sure. It makes about as much sense as the multiple other aspects of Earth culture ending up on Chikyu, despite the founders of their civilisation being Japanese people from biblical times) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsR7hW...jpg&name=small Fortunately, he?s still friendly enough to show off what happened to the other Kings in this aberrant reality. Yanma failed to rebuild N?Kosopa and became a shopkeeper, bullied by the rest of the town. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsR7mW...jpg&name=small Hymeno?s selfishness got her deposed, leaving her dependent on flowers for income and sustenance. Mostly the latter https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsS0rW...jpg&name=small Rita snapped from the pressure of being the only judge, jury, executioner and law enforcement on the planet, and became an idol. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsS0vW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsTviW...jpg&name=small Though unlike the other two, they?re enjoying this change of lifestyle. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsTvkW...jpg&name=small And Kaguragi was stripped of his title after it became apparent that he was a greedy dirtbag, now working as a jobber of a wrestler for his sister. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsTvpW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsTvpX...jpg&name=small And then Utchy breaks us out of Prince?s confusion at this seemingly sudden change by asking what they came here to do. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsUmsW...jpg&name=small Thankfully, Jeramie is just as helpful at leading them back to Shugoddam. Unfortunately, the Space Bug King they meet is Jakkou, accompanied by the 5 Space Bug Jesters (for you Rider fans out there, in terms of casting, Gouma and Grodie are Karasuma and Tachibana from Blade, Hirubiru is Kiva-La from Decade, Kamejim is Sieg from Den-O and Megahex from the Gaim/Drive movie and Minongan is the 15 Luminaries from Kamen Rider Ghost. Also, Dagded is Tatsulot from Kiva, but he?s ceased to be a character in this story, so that?s just flavour text). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsUmpX...jpg&name=small And unfortunately, Jakkou has been spying on them since they arrived, having captured the former Kings after seeing the newcomers were interested in them. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsUmtW...jpg&name=small (Guess Jakkou isn?t a fan of Rita?s music) Before the villains can kill Utchy and Prince, Minongan starts to feel funny. He promptly barfs Daigo out of another time warp. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsUmsW...jpg&name=small His presence is all that?s needed for Prince and Utchy to return to Plezuon and the party to leave the planet. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsVqoW...jpg&name=small Daigo explains that he escaped from the pendant when the Ohsama Sentai killed Dagded in the ?correct? timeline. (Seen in both the final episode of King-Ohger and its director?s cut) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsVqlW...jpg&name=small Sensing that Prince was in danger, he journeyed to Shugoddam to recruit Gira?s help. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsVqkX...jpg&name=small The two transformed and journeyed to Gokkan, locating Minongan?s frozen corpse (left in this state after episode 45), with Daigo breaking the ice for long enough to open a portal to the other timeline. (Let?s hope it wasn?t long enough to revive Minongan, otherwise Gira and co will have to deal with another resurrected Dagded who?ll be even more pissed off and desperate) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsXJxX...jpg&name=small Now that everyone?s caught up and introduced, Daigo reveals his plan. First, he returns to the regular timeline and grabs Jeramie?s Venomix Shooter (Which he just? left on his throne. More on that later). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsXJlX...jpg&name=small Step two is to send Prince back to a slightly earlier point in history to recover Gabutyra from Shugoddam, and also saving Gira from some Sanagim controlled by Dagded. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsYaKX...jpg&name=small He then combines Gabutyra with the Shugods to form King Kyoryuzin, break Dagded?s control over them and defeat some giant Sanagim (all of these events transpired in-show during episode 40). https://youtube.com/watch?v=75G0xXZB...xdTcI-j-wZExWf https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsYaYW...jpg&name=small We then replay Prince?s farewell to Gira from that episode, now with the added poignancy of this movie. (Given Takano was the writer for that episode, one wonders if he was aware enough of what was going on here, or he let Kaneko ghost-write that segment of the episode). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsYaPX...jpg&name=small Back in the altered present, Jakkou takes no chances and sentences the deposed kings to death in order to draw the Kyoryugers out (Now we?re back where we started. Another few minutes, and the whole planet will blow up again). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsYaWX...jpg&name=small Daigo shows up again. Only this time, he blasts everyone with the Venomix Shooter, downloading the entirety of Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, plus the movie, into their brains. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsZdSW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsZdbW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsZdaW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsajzW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsajUW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsajtW...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsajzX...jpg&name=small This restores the captive Kings? memories and regular clothes. (Though the wiki treats them as separate to the regular versions, I?m not going to be following that tenuous logic here) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsdhNX...jpg&name=small And it?s revealed the Venomix Shooter was recovered from the events of the epilogue to episode 50, when Jeramie left it behind when he went to fight a new enemy that had appeared. (I?m half guessing we?ll never find out who that enemy is) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsdhGX...jpg&name=small Unfortunately, since the timeline that created him still exists, Jakkou prevails and moves to attack. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsdhNW...jpg&name=small A problem quickly mended, once Utchy goes back and knocks himself out as he re-enters with the vat of Rainbow Jururira (that must?ve left Gira scarred for life in some way). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsdhQW...jpg&name=small All this does is render Jakkou unable to transform, meaning the other Kings fight him bare-handed. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsfKJW...jpg&name=small A problem that resolves itself once they hit him with a combined attack powered by friendship. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsfJ-X...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsfKFX...jpg&name=small Daigo is happy to see that everything worked out in the end. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsfKSW...jpg&name=small But unfortunately, Jakkou persists as a separate entity, possessing his armour as the Space Bug King. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTsua9X...jpg&name=small Gira counters by transforming to face him. Gira: Shisho Kourai! (Progenitor Arises) Ohger Crown: You Are! I Am! We Are The, We Are The, King, King, Ohger! King Kuwagata-Ohger! Gira: I am the evil king who devours evil. The others quickly join in the transformation fun. https://youtube.com/watch?v=_ZS8H1X7...9D142udOWdiFAc Cue the theme song (which honestly, is more ok than anything. But he?s not alone, as two more newcomers to this VS Movie lark make their appearances in a similar fashion. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTtm8TW...jpg&name=small Ramirez: The Steel Brave, KyoryuCyan! Tessai: The Clashing Brave, KyoryuGray! Torin: The Radiant Brave, KyoryuSilver! After Souji returns his mentor?s Feather Edge sword to its original owner, the three Spirit Rangers finish off Grodie by combining their attacks. (While unnamed in the picture, Ramirez?s is ?Ankydon Hammer?) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt1fKX...jpg&name=small And with the three Reds fighting Jakkou, Daigo and Prince combine their respective transformation items into the King Gabutyra Cannon (the DX King GaburiCaliber can?t do this, but the upcoming Memorial version can). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt1fbW...jpg&name=small With Gira manifesting Kentrospiker, they combine their attacks against Jakkou, vanquishing him for good. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt1fLX...jpg&name=small https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt1fhX...jpg&name=small Wih the dust settled, Prince and Gira set up the King-Ohger In Space TTFC special (It?s all fun and games until Prince has to kill Gira to eradicate the evil threatening the universe). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt-wAX...jpg&name=small And we get our King-Ohger/Kyoryuger ED, Pride and Brave, which mercifully, only has one verse in the short version, meaning I get to finish this in less words. https://youtube.com/watch?v=ijZzD0KL...vuT2Ch44qkszUL Look up! Our prides are resonating with each other?s This newly born bravery Believing in hope both given and received and grasping each other?s hands This melody we sing rings out Spin a Pride and Brave for the world https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt-v_X...jpg&name=small And in a post credits scene, Utchy returns Prince to his own era, meeting his father (who seems to have aged remarkably well). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt-wHX...jpg&name=small And we end on Utchy running off to fix whatever mistake he made this time (Though something tells me Yayoi will be less willing to help him with this). https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUTt-wCW...jpg&name=small Final thoughts: Definitely a better experience than VS Donbrothers. It felt like a good amalgam of all the best parts of both shows, complete with a chilling look at what if Gira was an actual evil king, rather than just calling himself one for show. It also builds upon the elements established in the show’s Kyoryuger crossovers to create a more compelling narrative than most recent VS movies had (And I liked most of those). The only complaint I might have is the run-time, but given the double bill, it’s somewhat understandable. |
I am now a little more than halfway through my Dekaranger rewatch and I got to say, like Timeranger before it, the show is even better than it is the first time I watched it several years ago. It helps that, in this case, I am watching the series under much better English subtitles via my copy of the DVD series set as released by Shout Factory (and the fansubs as done by OverTime mostly for the sake of comparison).

Boy, I've been watching Tokusatsu as I work, and two new additions to my list of completed Sentai are: Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger and Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger!
I wasn't quite expecting Zyuranger to be a full-on Swords and Sorcery show, but here we are. It was a blast! I may not have seen Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, but seeing where it all came from was a fun experience. Also, Barzda. Love that guy. It's also strangely hilarious that Bandora will just burst into song, even in front of captured prisoners, like this is a Disney Movie. Hurricanger was also a lot of fun, and recognizing all the Godzilla Kaiju roars used by the Karakuri Balls was neat. Shurikenger was absolutely one of my favorite characters in this show (Rest in Peace), but the dynamic of the villains was entertaining as well (Sargain's the best, and Furabijo is probably Best Girl). Overall, it was fun watching some older Sentai shows, and I hope to see more! |
So.
After four years of stop-and-go attempts, I've finally finished Shinkenger. This show... this show was made for me. |
