Technically, he wasn't the first extra member. He was still a part of the main five. But Zyuranger was the first to actually have the first extra member.

While he was the fifth member, he still counts as an extra, as his entire design doesn't follow the rest of JakQ.

Do extra members even count if they are not the sixth members?

There was a 6th ranger before Burai. And he was green. But I can't think of which Sentai he was part of.

Oh. Well, at least he was there. I remember reading something about him years ago. They mentioned something about him being like the prototype 6th ranger.

Well, Abarekiller comes into a similar constellation to Big One (a team of four), so if you consider Big One an extra, then Abarakiller is also one.
