That's incorrect. Shininess, like stats, is determined when receiving the egg. Not when it hatches. Soft resets would just result in hatching the exact same 5 Pokémon over and over.

Your Secret ID number is tied to shininess. So while shininess is determined when you receive an egg, if you trade an egg containing a shiny to someone else, it may not hatch shiny since it'll receive their ID/Secret ID.

Simply put, a Pokemon in an egg is determined when you receive the egg. It's nature, it's attacks, it's stats, and whether or not it's shiny are all set in stone.
Shininess is tied to a secret ID number (Not your Player ID).
So an egg, traded as an egg, to someone else, can hatch as shiny for them, but not for you, as determined by the secret ID.

No. It took me a bit of time to grasp at first too. This knowledge was key in using the RNG method to find shinies in 4th gen.

So I have my first ever shiny. Whoop! He has a nature that boosts sp Atk but lowers speed, so its not great but could be worse I guess. Judge also says he's good all round but has perfect sp.atk. I can dig. Still gonna hatch a few more I think =]

Then its onto chain fishing for an adaptable/shiny skrelp whichever comes first. Is its hidden ability even optainable that way?

I actually thought I was finished when that Malamar took out half my team, but then boom. Lapras comes in to save the day. I legitimately didn't anticipate that :lol
