I've never watched it as I can't speak or read japanese, but something about it is really fascinating to me. It may be because its one of the last unsubbed sentai series.

I see. Well, it is worth checking out cause at the time it did some new things looking back. They were the first teenaged sentai team ever, first team to be based solely on cars, first team to have three robots, and the first team to reclaim the suffix "-ranger" since Gorenger(yes, the spelling is not identical, but it is written the same in katakana), and is the first Heisei Super Sentai team.

How do you picture Kyuranger into Power Rangers?

I'm kinda thinking they'll do a lot of homages. Maybe polish off some of the ideas that were considered for a Go-Busters adaption, like setting it on Miranoi. Do various callbacks. For example make one of the mechanical rangers an Alpha model, have the red ranger be related to Mick, say the gold ranger is a reformed member of the Machine Empire.

I expect though what we'll get is a bunch of high school kids and a space warlord who makes his monsters big through shooting a laser at them again.

So I got a friend into Sentai, and he's been wanting to brainstorm a series, and I told him it's a good idea to layer themes. I also had to point out you can reuse a theme like Dinosaurs and Ninjas have been. He then suggested subterrainen villains, and I had to point out that's been done. But this got me wondering a few things.
Other than the Tube Empire from Dynaman have any other Sentai foes been from underground?
Is there any type of origins that haven't been used for Sentai/PR villains by now?

Spandex costumes, has a red ranger and a blue ranger, newbies in Japanese showbiz hired to appeal and show their potential as performers, and most of us will probably still see it hate it or love it. And the occasional innovation.

Funny, Ohranger was amilitary sentai but the mechas doesn't looks like military.

That is because they are military in terms of organization and how they operate but their power source derives from ancient civilizations.

Like I pointed out to my friend I got into sentai often have more than one theme, when he started wanting to brainstorm a show.
Ohranger had Military, Ancient Civilizations, a dash of Nature, and shapes. Not sure if Baranoia had a theme beyond being robots.
Zyuranger had Dinosaurs sure, but also also fairy tales. You see this in how the team was asleep for so long, and fight an evil witch who's monsters are based on creatures from myth and fairy tales.
Megaranger has video games, high technology, youth, and for the Nejira twistedness.

I must admit I did love the effects work for the Dash Leon and Gran Taurus pulling the artillery units. I also always loved seeing the Guardian Beasts/Dinozords all running alongside each other. Does anyone else have any model work like that they thing was great?

For that matter what's your favorite launch sequences for individual mecha in Sentai?

late mid-80s rangers had cool carrierships looking back now. Just the fact that they could pull off stuff like this at the time with what they had is just amazing.

At the top of my head? Timerobo's. It's seriously cool seeing the Time Jets fly through the various timelines and its even cooler seeing how people react to them.

If there was ever a Metal Hero style Sentai, what type of suits would be the best choice: Classic Space Heroes (the first 5 metal heroes), light armored (Jiraiya & Blue SWAT) or heavy armored (The Rescue Police trilogy and the B-Fighters)?

Side note: I was going to ask where did the nickname "Jasmine" came from. Then I threw her given name (茉莉花) on google translation and found out that, while it translates to Marika from japanese, from chinese it translates to... Jasmine :p

And also Dekarangers' first names are references to tea and their surname refers to mystery novel writers. Jasmine referring to Jasmine tea and her last name referring to Raymond Chandler who wrote titles such as The Long Goodbye(which Philip from Kamen Rider W is a reference to because of the protagonist Philip Marlowe). But going back to your question, I would have the main roster go light armor, sixth ranger go something similar to space sheriffs, and maybe the upgrades can be heavy armored.

If I remember correctly, Ohranger Robo was badly damaged shortly before the Ohrangers acquired Red Puncher and this scene is just them testing Ohranger Robo to see if everything was working correctly after its repairs.

And to test it... they dance? I'd say that's an odd way to test the Robo but it's Super Sentai and I know how bizarre it gets.

I've also speculated that this was to lighten the tone of Ohranger given the themes and the unfortunate circumstances in Japan at the time.

P.S.: What is that song in that scene, anyway? I knew years ago but I forgot!

Yeah, adding to what TokuKnight89 said, 1995 was not a great year for anything extreme in Japan due to some cult causing a severe domestic threat in Tokyo. And Ohranger at first was heading for something tad more "dark" until said incident occured forcing the production to go with a lighter tone for its show resulting in bits like this probably to get people's minds off that unfortunate event.

As a friend of mine put it about the show "We go from episodes that are all goofy and about teaching the robots to dance to really dark ones about serial killer robots!"

He still loved the show though.

Yep, despite the unfortunate setbacks due to current events at the time, it still is a decent sentai show. I love the designs overall, Goro is one of my favorite red rangers, and King Ranger is one of the best tsuika senshis around. :rock:

So, how will Lupinranger and Patoranger be treated in the grand scheme of things in Sentai?
I know they love their anniversary series, so will they treat them as 2 different Sentai that happened in the same year, or just as 1 joint Sentai with sub-teams a la the Hurricangers and Gouraigers?

The former. It is the concept this year and they should rightfully embrace it I think should they have one of those Gokaiger/Super Hero Taisen occasions. I guess we will have to wait and see until next February but for now counting them as two teams under one year seems more appropriate.

I've always seen the Gouraigers as just an extension of the Hurricangers. The series is named after Hurricanger, and the Gouraigers have similar suits. But this is different. There are two Sentai in the name of the show, and they have very different suits. From the looks of things, they're both going to get an extra hero as well. They're really reinforcing the idea that these are two separate teams.
However, it's still only one show, so it'll likely be viewed as the series that had two teams in one.

I have never watched Ohranger simply because of the fact they changed the script and never gave us the show they intended.

I would have perfered if they just dropped Ohranger on the backburner and just went to next years sentai.

Not to mention that every time they try an anniversary season, something happens and they are forced to change it.

One rule I always follow as a writer is DO NOT CHANGE THE SCRIPT, it doesn't matter if the freaking theater is burning down around you, the cast has food poisioning and the apocalypse has started, the script will NEVER be changed.

As for Ohranger, that was really out of their hands. They're not making high art, they're making a kids show.

And as we always say, in the end it's a year-long commercial divided into 30 minute episodes. Besides, the last thing Japanese kids living in Saitama or Kanagawa circa 1995 needed while contemplating whether they should beg their parents to buy action figures of grown-ups wearing spandex and have geometric shapes slapped on their faces was to be reminded how their capital city which is within their region just got threatened with a horrible incident. It definitely sucks that they had to change directions of the show and who knows, Ohranger could have been the next Liveman or Jetman, but I think it was necessary at the time. Even so, it still is a decent show I think.

So I'm thinking about starting up some more recent Sentai that I gave up on early.

Go-busters was the only one I watched completely.

I found toqger boring and ninninger completely lame.

I judge sentai by how good the show is after they run out of new toys. If I still want to watch it after they have the final mecha, I will consider it a good show.

Shame that the same person who wrote that abomination wrote fourze, showing that they can do an idiot main character rather well, as gentaro was pretty much a typical sentai red, but not an overblown asshat.

It's not that easy. If you were in charge of the show (that basically belongs to the producer), then you can do that. But in the end, writers do not have complete control of the show.

I've noticed that you hated Kyoryuger because of KyoryuRed. I hate him too, but I do have a feeling that it's not the writer who wanted it, but rather the producers who wants an extreme focus on Red. This is further seen when the writer writes Kamen Rider Drive, it was a really good show with well written characters.

In the end all of us who wants to be/already a writer wants to write their own story, but I feel like once you entered the industry you will experience lots of restrictions.
