Maybe it's me but...
Fourze ain't clicking with me. I dunno why. I've watched a great deal of episodes but something is not quite sitting well with me. I love the outfits of the hero and enemies though. I think it's the high school aspect. I just find it so incredibly annoying. :\
I'm probably gonna jumped now as soon as I step outta my apartment later on... |
To be honest, Fourze is starting to lose me a little. I still like the show, but I'm definitely aware that I'm getting into it less and less as it goes on. I still really like all the characters, but it seems like we spent about a quarter of the show getting to know all the members of the Kamen Rider Club and now they've all faded into the background except for the main three (Shun just used the Power Dizer last week, but when was the last time Miu did anything noteworthy? JK? Nozama?). The story is still moving along well enough and I'm kinda liking Ryusei, but I'm getting a little annoyed that at this point we as the viewers know way the hell more than the characters do about what's going on with the Zodiarts. I miss the days of Kuuga and Agito, where the viewers learned things as the characters did.
I'm also still not a huge fan of the Rider suits and a good 90-95% of the switch weapons look freaking ridiculous. I still like the show and look forward to it each week, but yeah, I'm not enjoying it as much as I was at first. Back when it started I was thinking it might make it into my top five Heisei shows, if not top five Rider shows in general. Now I'm thinking it will end up somewhere in the middle of the pack next to OOO and Ryuki. |
I'm sticking with it, but I can see why some would start to abandon ship.
If Gentarou can apparently see Ryusei's facade but can't tell when Kengo is so angry that he'll abandon all of them, it may get pretty annoying.. |

My biggest problem with Fourze, the same with OOO is the fighting. These shows are supposed to be about cool choreography and killer fighting, right? OOO was thrown into it the same way Fourze was and neither knew how to fight at all. The suit actor doesn't get to show of all the cool stuff he can do, all he does is dodge in a cowardly way and look scared, and fall on the ground a lot.
Then he pops a switch in that does an attack from a distance and gets lucky and wins. I like the characters in the show so I'm almost bummed out when Gentarou transforms. It's sad that that's the weak point in a show like this. Another thing that I definitely noticed especially this past week is how most of the members of the KRC don't do anything anymore. It's the main three and the others are just background characters that get a goofy line or two when they're at the club's base. Sentai does well with 5+ characters in the show because they make each episode focused on a different member of the team. You'd think a show like Fourze would see that and be able to emulate it so we know more than one episode's worth of characters like JK and what'shergoth. |
This you hitting the nail on the head.

While I definitely understand where you're coming from, I personally see the advantages outweighing the faults in this show.
|
I do too. I've been enjoying it much more than I did OOO because all the characters are more quirky and likable, but the faults make it so I'm not DYING to see the episode every week. I always enjoy it when I start it but it's just a "watch it when it comes along" show.
I just want cool fighting back in Kamen Rider. It's been too long. Meteor is close, but I like rooting for the main Rider as a kickass. |

To me, I got the impression that Eiji didn't know what he was doing, that he was trying random combos till he found one that worked. I don't really see that with Fourze myself though |
I feel like its more in this case than OOO even. What do you think makes this different than OOO? Has Gentarou even used any older switches besides the rocket switch since the first time he used them?

other then the usual suspects, he used Chain Array in this week's episode. I don't really get the impression that Gentaro doesn't know what he's doing though. Mostly because it's already been established that he knows how to fight, plus it's usually Kengo/Ryusei that tells him what switch to use and in which combinations. |
I didn't like the show at first and then it grew on me. But the new rider... I can't stand. I can't stand the person nor the powers or suit. :/

Me, I'm loving every minute of this show :D

I've lost a lot of interest in Fourze. As others have stated, we spent the first 10 to 12 episodes getting to know the Kamen Rider Club, and now that we do, we've completely abandoned them to nothing more than comedic background spots. Ryu's storyline is now predictable - it's going to take a story-arch of 5 to 10 episodes for him to reveal himself to Gen and it'll have to do with his friend in the hospital. Then they'll team up to beat the Virgo and Libra Horoscopes.
The suits look cool but there's absolutely zero choreography with them - jump, wave your arms, fall down, flip a switch, CGI/blue-screen victory, rinse, repeat. |

I'm not sure why you guys are moping about the choreography. This is a guy who has little to know martial arts background duking it out with monsters. Of course the suit actor is going to have to express this gung-ho kind of fighting style in such an uncommon manner.
We're all so used to having a Rider transform from an average dude to a savant in combat that we forget most of the characters aren't really "fighters" per se. Look at Ryuki and how Shinji fights (literally like crap). So Gentarou's little Vale Tudo approach to things is a lot more refreshing. He's a brawler, and it works for him. As for the KRC, I'm really okay with them as a permanent cast. I mean these guys are essentially in every show, whether its the Santa-Chan, Queen and Elizabeth, Watcher Man etc etc from W, the ORE Journal crew in Ryuki or even Grandpa, Natsumi and Yusuke from Decade. You need a solid cast aside from the Riders that they can use to propagate the story. I won't say "give it time" because I feel the patience of the average viewer has decreased as more series debut. I for one think the pace of story-telling is a HUGE step up from OOO which was dead to me. Like all other Rider series, you either like it or you don't and I'll proudly say I'm pretty happy with Fourze so far. |
This show only started to lose me once around the Fire switch episodes but since has picked up greatly. It's been a fantastic ride so far (forgive the pun). Need we be reminded that Gentarou isn't exactly the first Rider to not know a martial art? Kuuga, OOO, Den-O, those are just the most obvious examples I can think of. I think an awesome foil to Gentarou being such a brawler type is that Meteor is highly trained and skilled yet they generally accomplish the same amount in battles.

As loathe as I am to admit, it's beginning to grow on me. Last night, the director of the Gun Caliber film, went to great lengths to give Fourze another shot. @#$%...
