Why didn't Masked rider keep going in the usa ?
 

Probably a noob question but i hope to get some proper responses on this,since ikinda liked the old masked rider show as a kid.

Sure,back then i was easily impressed and i watched everything that somewhat resembled my beloved PR, but in my memory the show wasn't too bad in itself, was it ??

I really liked the costume, and the fact that this was a one man army instead of team setup. i liked the vehicles and fighting and just the overall vibe. keep in mind i was just a kid and had no clue about sentai or kamen rider and whatnot, i just watched it as i saw it and knew it.

i even had the action figures back then!

but then it the show ended and i was sorta expecting a new version, just like i had witnessed my rangers evolving and getting new costumes, but it never came...instead some time later we got beetleborgs masked rider was never to be seen or heard of again in the western market.

Did the show perform that poorly ?? was it a footage issue ??

Sometimes i think it would've been awesome if the masked rider series had enjoyed the same longevity as power rangers, surely there was no lack of series/footage to choose from to adapt.

( looking back the acting was bad/cheesy but then again so was mmpr so that is no argument as to why it couldn't last)

Because Masked Rider made no sense, had absolutely no budget, and had ratings so low you'd have to build your own coal mine to see them. It used stock footage. Which in itself is fine, MMPR did it all the time. Still does. But the footage they used made no sense what so ever (Not that him magically getting more power from water made sense in the original RX black anyway). And Furbus. The answer to why Masked Rider never worked is always Furbus. And those talking cars he barely ever used, yet almost every episode had long boring conversations with that went no where.

Regardless of if it was a huge hit or not. Toei hit the breaks on Kamen Rider for years anyway. Saban was out Of useable footage if they wanted to keep it going. It was interesting to find out that black rx was filmed in 89 or so and they filmed masked rider in like 94-95? Even as a kid I could tell the footage looked dated. I still liked it as a kid though. It may have been my 2nd favorite of the American Toku boom on the mid 90's

Ok thanks for the input so far guys, i never even knew the time diffrence of filming untill now tbh, because i'm still a toku noob. intresting stuff.

i guess i was just a happy go lucky kid that never questioned stuff like that..i never thought " hm the picture seems so old & grainy, somethings up.." because iwas too busy being fascinated with the costumes and fighting, that and the fact i probably just assumed that's what those kind of tv shows were supposed to look like, since i was used to it from PR and any other american toku shows back then.

just like how i used to unknowingly watch some anime as a kid and realizing the style was diffrent and just calling it " those special/flashy cartoons", not having a clue about the existence of anime or what it truly was..i was just watching a certain blend of cartoons that looked diffrent than my regular diet of batman and ninja turtles cartoons and that's that, no further questioning about it back then.

ignorance is bliss i suppose lol, being a kid made me adore many tv shows and videogames that i discovered years later as an adult were wrong on so many levels yet i was oblivious to it.

It's cool , don't worry about being a noob. Everybody has to start somewhere. I am coming up on 1 year into this hobby. And I still have a ton to learn. This place is generally friendly when you have questions.

If it makes you feel any better, I have really fond memories of Masked Rider as a kid too. In fact I loved the hell out of it, and I'm not looking forward to eventually rewatching it because of that :lol

Because they didn't give the show a final battle. Plus, they used footage of Kotaro in scenes that didn't make sense with the American footage. Backgrounds and hair styles were completely different at times.

I watched Masked Rider when I was 7. I watched Goseiger when I was 22. That's a big difference :p

Like KRM said, they didn't have any stock footage to keep it going. The only way they could continue it was if they adapted either an older show, or went absolutely insane and tried to adapt ZO and or J(they're Kamen Rider movies that are only 45 minutes or so long FYI). If Masked Rider managed to be popular enough, then they could have possibly pulled a "Zyu 2"(click here for info: http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Zyu2 ) and make new footage, which could have possibly even reignited the Kamen Rider franchise. But alas, Masked Rider flopped, fell into obscurity, and the creator of Kamen Rider swore on his deathbed to never let someone adapt his works again(or so I hear).

I remember enjoying masked rider quite a bit, and loved his suit upgrades with supergold being the best. I loved Chopper too, so obnoxious!

The show had a final battle, remember? It was the one where all the other Kamen Riders show up for absolutely no reason (which, to be fair, isn't that different from Black RX, but at least there, they existed prior to the episode) and they team up with Dex to save the day, or something. I can't say I really care to remember.

No, a final battle is when you defeat all of the villains.

And I actually never watched the show outside of the Power Rangers crossover. I hated the characters in that episode so I never had an interest in watching the show. I watched some guys Youtube review on the final episode of Masked Rider and there was no final battle, it just leaves us with Count Doku vowing next time.

They already used ZO and J footage in Masked Rider. And considering how long it had been since Black RX ended before Masked Rider started I doubt they'd dig all the suits out of storage just for Saban. They probably could've used Black footage - at least until it gave a ton of American kids epileptic seizures.

Kamen Rider Black's Rider Punch and Rider Kick use a ton of those bright flashes of light that eventually got banned because a lot of Japanese kids got seizures from Pokemon.

Aren't a lot of the old Kamen Rider series seizure inducing though?

Not really. It was just Black that really went nuts with the strobe effects.

The really stupid thing about that is while Porygon and its evos got the shaft Pikachu, the real cause of that light strobe, got off Scott free.
