yugioh thread
i didn't see one here and i've been on a yugioh kick lately so i decided to start one.
right now im working a VWXYZ deck, being want to make for awhile but i only restly discovered my knack with machine decks. I'm also working on a neos/six samurai deck making those two work has been a challenge. Any one else here play? |
I recently quit just cause the meta was awful. But you cant quit yugioh, yugioh quits you. lol!
|
I play on duel network from time to time, but I stopped collecting the cards looooooong time ago.
|
I've pretty much stopped since moving to Colorado.
But I do still have 2 decks on me, my Watts and my Gishki ^^ |
My main deck was a warrior equip deck, but it's severely out of date since I stopped buying cards once the 5Ds stuff hit....not that I hated the 5ds stuff mind you, far from it. But I couldn't keep up with the cards
|
I play, i run a lot of decks online (sams, glads, xyz) real life i run flamvell, with a gravekeeper xyz engine. Its actually really broken
|
I used to collect until I moved to Spain in 2006. But even then, I used to play against myself xD. Played on Yu-Gi-Oh! Online from 2005 to 2009 and then quit. Last September I started to play again on Dueling Network just running some fun ideas. Funny too, I'm a mod on a yugioh forum, yet I hardly play anymore. Some of the more fun ideas I run are like a Red-Eyes deck, a E-Hero deck, a Malefic deck and a V-Z/Beatdown deck. I've been meaning to update some decks I used in Yugioh: Nightmare Troubadour.
In real life, I hardly ran theme decks. Only in the past couple of years did I start trying to make some themes. |
I ran gladiator beast before i quit. Locals champion lol. I'm thinking about starting again in march when the meta changes. Yugioh is just an awesome way to make quick cash.

I play THREAD REBORN!!
So I haven't been in the game for about a year now as all of my friends stopped playing, but now I want to get interested again, but I'm not sure what to do. Every deck I have had has usually been dead after 6 months outside of Six Samurai, but even their reign is pretty much done. Is there anything even worth investing in these days when it seems like every Archetype is dead in a year? I've taken an interest in Ghostrick because they look unique and have potential, but I thought the same thing about the Nordic cards and they lasted 6 months. I don't want to just play the same decks that every person and their brother are playing, but I want to have a deck that can compete. |
The problem is the banlist itself. Instead of hitting blatantly overpowered cards, it now targets the most abundant decks and takes away their necessary or best cards.
People didn't stop using Blackwings because everyone was using them, they stopped using them because the cards seen as necessary for the deck to function were banned or limited. Decks don't fall out of favor over the span of a few months because deck X was a fad, but because either their heavy hitters or their weaker but incredibly overpowered cards were cut. Anyway, I'm not big in the YGO circle anymore, but I think Ghostrick might have some form of potential. |
I still have my Toon aligator card that a friend i had in second grade gave to me about 10 years ago, it's all bended and scratched but it has some good memories.
|
I don't play anymore just because I lost interest, I stopped collecting cards a long time ago and quit dueling network because the meta is so frustrating to my main deck.
Along with what Matrix Beast said, I think what makes the yugioh meta so annoying is the power creep that is happening all the time. If you don't get the newest archetype or a card that speeds up an old one, then you're fucker meta wise. I mainly play Jurracs, and I could special summon a decent amount of XYZs and Synchros. So when I played against Dragon Rulers, that mother fucker was overlaying rank 8 monsters like nothing(Mind you, I had the rank 4 Evolzars in my extra deck and rely on them a lot). Even against Heratics, a slightly older archetype, I was still struggling to compete due to the amount of shit those cards are allowed to do. |
I didn't honestly know Yugioh was even really a thing, I mean I knew the anime was still going and stuff but I didn't realise there was still a strong professional circuit and that the game was still evolving.
In my life Yugioh, Beyblade, B-Daman and all of those sorts of things were all just fun gimmicky distractions before the next Pokémon game came out. Stuff like B-Daman barely even lasted a single term of school. |

The Yugioh card game is kind of like Pokemon, in a sense. Fun with friends, but eyerolling and dull when you play against someone who's taking things way too seriously. |

Who knows, maybe if I had stuck at it I'd have a job as a professional Yugioh player, that'd be the life. |

I'll have to give YGO Pro a try when they get the Android version up. |

All I want to do is dick around with the different decks I can make but I don't want to go through the trouble of actually having to buy cards, because CCGs can get pretty costly, far more than toy buying. |

I only play online because my younger brother is obsessed with it and, since we live in different houses, we can still play without one of us trekking around :lol

I ended up dropping Zexal completely because I could not stand Yuuma. The duels just weren't as fun to watch as 5ds were.
I t hink Ark V might pull me back in though, it looks like it's going to be a more laid back show. |
I dropped the anime around the middle to end of GX. Jaden was annoying, never lost, was a complete monster ("Lemme sacrifice all my friends and allies I made over the past 2 seasons so I can save one guy I met a month ago!"), and was constantly pulling new BS E-Hero fusions out his ass whenever it seemed like he was on the verge of experiencing a loss.
I couldn't stand Jaden, so the anime was too hard to sit through. 5Ds' premise was fine, but it's execution was far too...Dumb. It felt like a 90's show made a decade late. |
I liked 5ds first two seasons, because at least there was some semblance of a plot and character development. The show kinda went all over the place once the Dark Signer stuff finished though.
And Yuuma was like Jaden except a million times worse. |
I gave ZeXal a chance, mainly out of curiosity for how the Xyz card type would work, but I quickly dropped it too.
|
I'm a semi serious yugioh player. I know more of the in depth rules and the combos my deck and other decks can perform but I don't take it too seriously.

For the anime, I love Duel Monsters to death. I stopped watching GX somewhere in the late 50s (whatever episode it was after Judai lost to Phoenix and then became all mopey about it and left the school because he is a sore loser). I enjoyed the first 64 episodes of 5Ds so much I even bought the Region 2 DVDs that contained those episodes and the series had a perfect ending with episode 64. I just lost interest after that, but I did watch the last two episodes of the show, which were good. Oh, and I had watched the last few episodes to GX when he dueled Not Yugi and it was lame. As for ZeXaL, I watched the first three episodes and gave up and then decided to watch the final episode today. It was quite lackluster and felt like a blatant rip off of the duel between Yugi and Atem.
I really love the manga and I do wish they would either redo Duel Monsters in Kai fashion (getting rid of Noa, Doma, and Grand Prix) or just do a completely new series that fully adapts the manga to a T from start to finish. Although, I will admit the anime gave the series a nice epilogue as opposed to just stopping after everyone got out of the tomb. As for Arc V, I'm probably only going to bother if someone decides to fansub it. I'm trying to move away from the raw viewing thing. If I like something enough, such as Kamen Rider, Sentai, and Godzilla, I'll do it. But it is harder with Yu-Gi-Oh! nowadays with the complex rules and not knowing what the cards I am seeing do. Anyway, I sold off 98% of my entire collection (at least 12,000 cards) for $350 and am now starting a new. I picked up some Shadow Spectres and that Deluxe Edition of Legacy of the Valiant today with some of that money and have most of my Ghostrick deck built. I just need the Rare cards now along with some older cards like Swords of Concealing Light to add to my deck. Finally, I have a Duel Network account, but I pretty much only use it these days to deck build. Not only am I sick of people quitting when they are about to lose, or people using their OTK decks even when you specifically state you are testing your deck out, but I just cannot get used to playing without real physical cards. THe only problem is, all of my friends have given up on the series and either moved to Vanguard or just quit entirely. |
Did anybody check out Yugioh Arc V?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHajHw5bQkY I don't hate it... But i tilt my head in confusion. |
That is one of the most terrible opening theme songs I have heard in quite awhile.

CALL OF THE HAUNTED THREAD!
i am thinking about rewatching Gx to see if the show holds up. Should I watch it dubbed or subbed? |
Quote:
Especially because they never dubbed the last season. |

And it doesn't chicken out concerning Viper's fate.
It also might not make Jaden out to be a total monster during the 2nd to last season. |

But yes, 4Kids is pretty much one of (if not) the worst dub companies ever. They've mangled so many thing, especially with Yu-Gi-Oh. When I found out what the original plot for Battle City was my jaw dropped from how different it was to what I saw as a kid. |

Yeah, I figured I was leaning to watch the subs anyways, but now I'm on board. Fuck my nostalgia, I'll go in subs and all. Its just that I can't find a place to download it. Quote:
Maybe for the 15th anniversary? |
