Let's talk Mystic Force
Okay, so I LOVED Magiranger, so it took a while to bring myself around to watching Mystic Force given its one of the seasons I see mostly negative responses to. Finally I sat down over the last week or so and watched it all, and much to my surprise I didn't think it was that bad.
I wasn't a huge fan on how they dropped the family aspect from Magiranger to have what became practically a sole focus on Nick, but the story was still pretty enjoyable. Koragg was a badass, and the battlizer was one of the few I can say I genuinely liked (and the fact that Fire Heart appeared long before he became a battlizer wins points with me too, even if it was painfully obvious). My biggest complaint would have to be the amount of (for the most part) annoying side-characters who weren't very important until the final few episodes, but they all came together nicely at the end. It's no Magiranger, but I still think Mystic Force was pretty damn good. Your thoughts? |
It was pretty awful but better than people say. The ideas were really good but the execution wasn't the best.

I think I slowed down/stopped watching it when I got tired of Nick...
It was alright. Certainly doesn't deserve the hate it gets. But I've never been a fan of "The Chosen One" kind of stories. (I was elated when the Green Mystic Ranger was the one to appear in 'Once A Ranger') |
Honestly, I believed it was the best season of Disney Era Power Rangers. The movie they did was entertaining, I loved the funny side-characters. For once all of the rangers could act which was refreshing. They brought back Doggie to be Solaris Knight, and how is that not a great idea. And the final episode, when the dragon soars around the tree and she opens the book and it says The End.. I thought it was the end of American Power Rangers. And I would've been content with that, because of how good the season and the finale were. And I am sincerly hoping that the next time Nicktoons does a 48 hour marathon of an old season that it ends up being Mystic Force. It deserves love.

And Koragg! THE NIGHT-WOLF DERNNIT!

I really enjoyed it. Saw the whole season on Netflix and had a great time.

I really liked Mystic Force. Some of the music that played during fights was pretty awesome, and Koragg/Wolf Warrior was pretty badass. And Madison was pretty good to look at, amirite? ;)
I thought Mystic Force was stronger than SPD ... I'd rate Disney era as: 1) RPM 2) Dino Thunder 3) Ninja Storm 4) Mystic Force 5) SPD 6) Jungle Fury 7) Operation Overdrive Wild Force was Disney but barely. |
In what alternate reality was Ninja Storm better than Mystic Force?

I liked Mystic Force. Maybe not the best Disney season, but easily the best Kalish one, even if it was full of his standard tropes. I liked the suits, I liked the story, and it had some great characters (Xander was fantastic and I absolutely loved Vida). The show did get way too Nick-centric at times and the "I believe in magic" ending was kinda bullshit, but on the whole I really liked the show.

Cyber-Cam was an idiotic premise. Lothor's evil plot starts with turning Sensei into a Guinea Pig! Marah and Kapri were eye-rollingly idiotic. (Still can't believe they brought her back for Dino-Force either) Choobo, Zurgane, and Motodrome were just poor excuses for Generals. And that whole story where the girl is a species that changes every 24 hours, and of course Shane falls for her, before she gives him the Battilzer with the Bounty Hunter coming after her... How was that ever a good idea?! |
Of course Mystic Force went Nick-Heavy sometimes, almost every MMPR season goes Red Ranger heavy. Even Samurai is having that happen now and again.
And better villians. Octomus, Morticon, Necrolai! Who didn't love Necrolai? And Koragg. I'm sorry but Koragg alone puts alot of Ninja Storm to shame. And Bullshit to I Believe in Magic? Way to be literal with the material. It wasn't just Magic that brought back their powers at the end, it was the Faith of the people of the forest and the city. Coming together. That brought the Rangers back again. Faith in themselves, in the Rangers, in each other. It was a good message. ... NInja Storm... Next you'll tell me that Jay Leno clone Genie in Big Bad Beetleborgs was excellent character design. -flails- |
