Power Rangers Megaforce - Gosei and Tensou to be new characters?
 

Power Rangers news blog Samurai Cast has updated with a new post collating all the information we know so far about the 20th anniversary Power Rangers Megaforce series, including some new information concerning the characters of Gosei and Tensou.

While these characters were expected to be the American versions of Goseiger's Master Head and Datas, Samurai Cast's sources are reporting that these two will in fact be brand new characters made especially for the series.

Also included in the post are the names for characters that are to be brought over from Goseiger. In case you haven't heard them yet - Gosei Knight will be Robo Knight, while the Warstar aliens Monsu Doreiku, Buredoran and Dereputa will be named Admiral Malkor, Vrak and Creepox respectively. The grunts for the series are named Loogies.

Other than wondering how they'll do Hyper Gosei Great with one of its components omitted, I see nothing lost from dropping Datas from the series.

I think this is great news. It shows they're willing to entertain change from the source material. I'm getting more and more excited with every reveal.

Somehow I like the name Loogies better than Moogers, despite them both being ridiculous names.

So that means we only get to see Mystic Gosei brother like once...That makes me sad, I really liked the Egg Bouncing Ostrich zord.

Not surprised. Already been screwed out of an entire season of Goseiger, so not surprised they keep severly changing everything. It might be because I adore Goseiger so, but why in the name of God are they naming a character Tensou? That'd be like naming one of them Henshin.

But really sends me right off is Robo Fricking Knight. Of all the generic, lazy names they could've chosen that would be the worst. Gosei Knight, and I know alot of you will agree with me, is the absolutely best part of Goseiger. He was badass on another level. Ad I'm tired of Saban butchering him, and Goseiger as a whole, horrible a that episode of Robot Chicken where Turbo Teen got drunk.

Usually I like ending one of these on a high note. The only high note here is Megaforce will only be one year long so I won't have to deal with them butchering Goseiger for very long.

And I'm terribly upset that they will no doubt butcher gokaiger. It is what it is, especially since most if us agree a direct translation would be total garbage (ie samurai)...plus why shouldnt megaforce/goseiger be the series to have The legend war? This is our anniversary series after all as disgusted as that makes me feel.

We don't know if the Goseigers will be excluded entirely or not. After all, almost everything is just rumor now, and I personally think having the Legend War as part of Megaforce makes for a mighty "Act 1" climax before Gokaiger's "Act 2" climax with the Zangyack Emperor's final assault.

Still even if they adapt Gokaiger, that doesn't mean they'll butcher it. Look at it this way, even if Gokaiger's adaptation is poorly done, it is not Gokaiger, and will most certainly not be called "Gokaiger". It is simply Power Rangers "UltraMegaforce" and we can choose to ignore it completely. However, there's also the chance that it would be an amazing show, in the vein of In Space, RPM, Time Force or some others. Anything's possible now, let's hope for the best. :)

I really don't get all this talk of butchering, be it Goseiger or Gokaiger. Super Sentai and Power Rangers are two different things. We've had our fun in Super Sentai, now it's Power Rangers' turn to give it a different spin. After all, we've already had our favorite shows subtitled by multiple subbing groups, need we rehash the story again with American actors? I just don't understand.

I don't see why the Goseigers would be excluded from the Legend War. After all even in the Sentai version they were the ones at the front line of the battle, not the Gokaigers.

Good point, the Gokaigers weren't even in the Legend War. That's why I say that the Legend War makes a perfect climax for a Goseiger adaptation.

Know what've been better? An entire run of Goseiger.

I'm fine with them dropping Master Header(was he even in any Senshi/Mecha fights? Gosei Ultimate turned into him kinda, but that's it as far as I know.), but Datas makes up a kinda sizable chunk of the toyline, and would null a lot of Mecha and Senshi footage if they dropped him. Though I have a hunch he'll just appear when needed for Hyper Gosei Great and they'll call him the "Gosei Hyperzord" or something.

It's not like they need to use all of the Goseiger footage, with them moving onto Gokaiger at the half way point.

No, I'm sorry. There's no excuse for this. They're butchering two good seasons and stitching them together in some HumanSentaipede monstrosity just because "OhShit It's our 20th!". When, a much better idea, would've been skipping Goseiger. Making a whole season of Gokaiger. Then introducing Goseiger after.

Or.

Doing an entire season of Goseiger, then an entire season of Gokaiger, for their 21st Birthday.

But this? This just right pisses me right off.

Ill second this, I want to try and think it will work....but I just don't see that happening. Goseigers using a giant FRICKING pirate ship...just doesn't make much sense. As long as I still get all those wonderful zords (aka whichever ones show up in the series) they can do whatever, cause I'll just go and watch Goseiger and Gokaiger and laugh at them...and their foolish ways.

Why? Because it's not going to be the same as the Japanese series?

None of us know how the two series are going to be written so that they connect. Goseiger and Gokaiger are two Sentai series that can plausibly be written to combine because one ends on a specific event that leads into the other. So what if they skip elements of Goseiger or Gokaiger in favour to make it work together. This isn't Goseiger or Gokaiger, its Power Rangers Megaforce.

I have to wonder if there was as much fanboy whining when MMPR became Zeo. At least those costumes had time for people to actually become attached to them.

That's just it, they way Nick has their seasons set up, that gives us what? 13 episodes per series. Goseiger deserves more and gokaiger DEFINATELY deserves more.

More like 20 per season actually. Not counting specials.

And to what standards do either series "deserve" more? I'd rather have a series tell a shortened and to the point story than one that either drags or is full of filler (hey there Goseiger). If the two shows can be shortened, and put together in an epic season that encompasses the history of Power Rangers (which y'know, involves teams changing motifs in a completely illogical fashion) then I don't see the problem.

It has nothing to do with being exactly the same. I gave up on that a long time ago, sadly. What it has to do with is them butchering two Sentai series' to make whatever this is going to be. Just to cram it all in to some arbitary anniversary. And it's not just about Goseiger. It's also about Gokaiger.

Then if that's the case, I don't understand what's making you jump to the conclusion that combining the two is instantly going to fail. The two series can work together. I'm not saying they will, but they certainly can.

Because Saban has a track record.

One minute people are all like 'why Saban just copy the sentai, this sucks!'

And then when they actually tell us they're not going to be doing a carbon copy people complain that they're 'butchering' the sentai.

Saban took 2 years to make a poor show called samurai. It certainly wasn't rushed. That's why I've lost faith in them
A)they found the worst actors-ok not totally their fault but shows low standards, even for a kids show...
B)in the beginning claimed the themes of shinkenger wouldnt work for the western audience and needed extra time to adjust it... and changed nothing

I highly doubt they had two years. Remember, Saban only reacquired the Power Rangers from Disney less than a year before the first episode of Samurai aired. The official announcement for the reacquisition was May 12, 2010, and the Samurai theme was announced in September (see here and here). Casting wasn't even done yet when the theme was announced, but I can't remember exactly when it was done. Finally, the first episode, The Team Unites, was aired on February 7, 2011 (see here).

While I can't be absolutely sure of course, evidence would seem to show that they barely had half a year to get the show produced. Whatever it may be, Megaforce definitely has a longer development timeframe.

A bit sad there won't be Datas, but only because I would have liked to buy an arcade machine for my toys.

Still more and more glad that they're changing things up. Not because I didn't like Goseiger (though I'm not a fan), but because why bother bringing a series over if you're not of going to change it? In that case, you may as well just watch the Sentai! (And of course, I know that Saban would "adapt" it without change so that they could still sell toys, it just doesn't make sense to actually watch it if you could just watch the Sentai).
