Power Rangers: Time Force discussion
I just finished the entirety of Time Force a few minutes ago. It's easily in my top two Power Rangers seasons list, and I can't decide if I like it or RPM better at the moment. All I can say is that while RPM is the quintessential example of how to do an original spin on the Sentai story, Time Force is the best example of how to adapt faithfully from the Sentai story and do it right. (Take notes, Samurai!)
Easily the best thing about this season was the characters. Wes, Eric and Jen are among the strongest characters I've ever seen in Power Rangers, and the rest of the cast are pretty strong too. Unusual for a Power Rangers series, character development is stellar, and Wes' relationship with his father was very satisfying and extremely well scripted. The villain Ransik was ruthless and actually did the dirty work pretty often. Overall, this was a very, very strong season. I knew it was good, but I did not realize that it would be that good. What did you think? |
saban should make alex as main villian and make ransik as his general like in timeranger

I'm not a fan of Time Force, I can write a book about how may things are wrong with that show...

It was a great season. Not perfect, but certainly one of the best.

I honestly could take or leave Time Force. It wasn't the worst, it wasn't the best. I thought them losing their leader, and finding someone in our time who looked exactly the same with the same DNA for their morphers was kind of... far-fetched. Even for MMPR. But all-in-all it wasn't bad. Far better than Ninja Force.

So guys, what other aspects did you or didn't you like? I've already mentioned those I liked, so I'll now say those that I didn't. I feel Time Force has the same problem all Power Rangers shows have, and that's the footage issues at times. Probably the biggest problem was the Yellow Ranger being male in Timeranger, I felt it was even more obvious this time than usual. Still, I must say I'd rather have this than 4 guys on the team, and Katie was a great Yellow, in my opinion. |
I'll say this then: One thing I did enjoy was the Megazord and the fact it had two modes, even if you needed to buy the gun for the second mode seperate.

The mecha: Great idea, looked horrible. I liked Ransik, but his back story bugged me. Were we supposed to feel sorry for him because humanity shunned him? Because all he did was ruin the lives of people who did try to help him. That being said, I loved his eventual "defeat" and return in the Wild Force crossover (which is my favourite PR crossover). |
Time Force was a good show. The characters was good and Ransit was a great villian.

I thoroughly enjoyed Time Force, though I admit to not being a "ZOMG SO GREAT!" type of fan. I've made some pro's and con's...
PROs: - The character of Wes was played out perfectly. The spoiled rich boy who gets his rocks off by getting to be a Power Ranger, and really forging his own destiny (as opposed to being the billionaire's son who takes over for daddy) - Jen was also very strong. She lost her fiance to the main villain and wanted nothing more than revenge. But instead she ends up falling for her fiance's ancestor (ew) and realizing that the future is never written in stone. - Eric was one of the best simply because the character of Wes was already painted for us and Eric got to play the exact opposite - the nice guy who was always getting shat upon by those more fortunate, finally catches a break and refuses to be a team player simply because no one has ever helped him, so why start accepting it now? His and Wes's eventual bond that forms in the finale was very well done. - Ransick was a great villain with a great story and was second to Lord Zedd in terms of creepiness. CON's: - It looks like the character Alex is supposed to be portrayed as the same as Jen when she first went back in time, but instead he comes off as a major douchebag. His bi-polar "I'll help you in secret, WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU DON'T F UP TIME, hey I just totally f'd up time for you!" personality was incredibly confusing. - Ransick didn't care for anyone or anything, not even his daughter for most of the series. So why he suddenly cannot stand to let his daughter get hurt, especially by him, causing him to finally give up when he's >THAT< close to winning? Say whaaaaat? - The ending. The writers have stated they wanted Jen to choose to stay in the past with Wes, but that the powers that be nixed the idea, as they didn't want to portray any type of lasting romance (same reason why the last on-screen kiss was Kimberly/Tommy in MMPR Season 1). - Jen's random "I AM A BOUNTY HUNTER" portrayal in the Wild Force team-up, to the point she doesn't even contact Wes (who she is in love with) for over a week. Totally out of character for her ... it's like they decided to grab mid-season Jen and not whole-season Jen. That's all I got! |
Interesting points, I agree with some of them!

Time Force is, to my mind, the most overrated season of Power Rangers. Coming off of my all time favorite in Lightspeed Rescue, I had high hope for this series. They were quickly dashed. None of the heroes were in the least bit interesting to me. Jen was like a character from a fanfic. She's a giant walking cliche. Wes was supposed to be the hero but he always came across as milquetoast until the very end. Trip, eh. Lucas was sort of a watered down version of Kai. And Katie, I don't think I remember a single thing about her other than she was super strong.
The meka was terrible. The Time Force Megazord is the least appealing of all of the Megazords we had gotten up til that point, and it's still bottom of the barrel today. Q-Rex looked overly silly running through that same bridge over and over, and made no sense, really. To me it just screamed "WE NEED A T REX TOY!" The Transwarp Megazord may be the stupidest giant robot I have ever seen, especially when he punched himself in the ass to go back in time. :lol But overall they were weak and immemorable. The villains at least were pretty strong. Ransik was a very good badguy. One of the best American exclusive baddies for sure. Nadira was annoying but I guess that was her point. Frax was an intriguing character in the second half of the series. Overall I tolerated Time Force more than anything else. This was not helped by the legions of PR fans who went insane over the series as it was airing (mostly because they WUVED JEN SOOOO MUCH). So I rated Time Force as "Bad" and will continue to hold that opinion. |
Another thing I'd like to add about what I love about Time Force: the music.
For me, this series has the most epic soundtrack of Power Rangers. It was dramatic when need be, and made use of its theme well. For example, during the "countdown" before enemies were finished off, you would hear a musical track that sounded like a timer ticking down (appropriately). Time Force also made great use of leitmotifs. The opening theme song was thematically remixed in many ways, fitting each scene. It created a sense of continuity in the show. Best of all, I can actually hear the music in my head. Few Power Rangers series can make me do that! |
alex try eased jen 's memory
alex mean to wes and took his morpher away from him |
