Shogun/Mega Ranger modes - USA exclusive?
 

Were the Mega and Shogun ranger modes exclusive to the US Power Rangers Samurai show, or did they show up in Shinkenger? They look bad ass.

Yeah, the only things that showed up in Shinkenger were the Super coats, and the Shark sword (Hyper Shinken Red).

Yes, for the 100th time, they are US exclusives. Shogun is the the Battlizer and Mega Mode was Bandai's redesign before there was going to be a show (You know, when PR was dead). They then forced said mode into the show because the toys were already made.

PS Mega Mode does look cool...as toys. In the show, they look like bed comforters. Shogun is one of the best Battlizers in years. Shame it's limited to the flipping cockpit.

I actually think the Gold Ranger's Mega Mode is better than the actual suit. Maybe it's my fascination with the black/gold combo as opposed to the blue/gold combo we seem to get more often these days.

Samurai was originally a toy only line, with the Mega Modes only, but then they put out the show, and that's why we got Mega Mode figures before Regular figures. The Mega Modes worked out to pad out the toy line, adding a Mega Mode and Super Mega Mode to last the toy line 2 years. Megaforce won't have this benefit since they already showed Super Goseiger Mode at Power Morphicon as a toy. It's giving credence to Gokaiger being 2014.

I think all the Mega Modes look better than the actual suits. We need an armored MMPR team.

Gold Ranger's Mega Mode has received positive reactions from everyone. It's the one they did the best on.

I like the mega mode suits, but I'm not really sure what should have been done with them. I don't like them more than the original suits, but I agree they should have had more screen time than just cockpit footage. I suppose it might have worked better as the mid-season upgrade/super mode, but that would have required a whole lot of new footage :lol

I'd say its a combination of the black/gold, and the fact they didn't mutate the helmet for it.

How/why did shinkengold go from gold and blue suit to black and gold for Mega mode?

The blue paint fades from using too much power going from regular gold to mega mode. The blue paint gets restored when he re-morphs into regular again later.

I think it was done to accenutate the "gold" part of the costume more than the "blue" part of the costume. He is referred to as the "Gold Ranger", thus you'd want his "super" or in this case "mega" mode to really push that color. Having blue instead of black would really have the blue stick out.

I was at the Tsuyoshi Nonaka (MMPR) Design panel at Morphicon, actually Mega Mode was tacked on because the Shenkenger cockpit footage was "unusable". There was always a show attached to Samurai but yeah the toys were designed first.

I can't remember those details from that panel. I was at the one on Friday and missed the Saturday one. I heard that one had some more Samurai info. They never elaborated on what deemed the Shinkenger cockpit unusable.

I was at the Saturday one, it was mentioned then. I hate I missed the Friday one, I had no idea it was different.
