Wizard Episode 8: "A New Magic Stone" Discussion
1. Phoenix makes his move!
2. A New Magic Stone?! 3. The Gate is a child?! 4. Medusa sends ghouls after him?! 5. Can Haruto defeat Phoenix?! Discuss! PLEASE! |
Rargh! Im off my game this week
|
Well Pheonix was as tough as I expected. and yet another gate I hope doesn't get saved.
|
Just watched the raw. God, that kid is the worst sort of brat, but given that he just tormented Shunpei through the entire episode, I find I can't hate that too much.
The fight with Phoenix was pretty awesome. I liked that he pretty much walked through everything Wizard threw his way. And it looks like that new stone will pay off next week, tho it seems a tad early for that, doesn't it? |
Maybe we'll luck out and he'll die, giving birth to a badass new Phantom general. But seeing as this is just a kid, I doubt we'll see him die.
I'll agree that we may be getting Dragon a little too soon, but then again I don't know how many power ups Wizard is going to get. Or if White Wizard is his final form. |
Loved this episode, even pre-subs. FINALLY some Haruto back-story! And Phoenix lived up to his cool costume, can't imagine how tough Medusa is going to be. BTW the guy who said it has to be right, Wiseman totally has to be the White Wizard.
Also the preview sold me on the Dragon Fire form. It looks great in motion. EDIT: Watched the subbed episode right afterwards. Man, I haven't watched many of these shows so my opinion is not that informed, but these are easily the meanest villains of any of the KR shows that I've seen. The Greeeds were evil but they mostly just brought out the bad parts of people that were already there. The Zodiarts, I haven't gotten far enough in to even see what their motivation is(besides creating Horoscopes). And again, the people they targeted were already pretty bad - they chose to become Zodiarts. These Phantoms are viciously cruel little $#!+$. |
Watched the sub.
Solid episode. Got some much needed backstory on Haruto (I was dreading that they'd hold off on backstory for another dozen episodes, so seeing it here was a nice change of pace). Watching Phoenix fight was pretty cool, and seeing a character like Haruto (Laid back, always calm, perpetually controlling the pace of the fight) start panicking as Phoenix walked through his spells was nice. My only qualms is that Haruto might be getting this new form a little early, especially considering that he already has 3 others that barely get used as is. |
Mmm...deliciously glazed backstory with sprinkles! The sprinkles are made of last hope. :D
This episode was all around good. There's a good chance White Wizard is Wiseman, in which case I'm calling him Wisemen Rider. However, it could just be a red herring. Things that amused me: TE-01 NAKKER THE ONE! The donut shop guys' slapstick in the background. The kid knows what to do when there's stranger danger. |
Do new forms boost the ratings? I saw an infographic the other day showing that basically all the shows since Decade quickly slide down in the ratings after the premiere except for a boost halfway through, that I assume is either the appearance of the secondary rider or the powered up form? Maybe they figure if they spread out the powered up forms over the course of the series it will help maintain interest.
|
I'm trying to remember how OOO and Fourze spaced out their rollouts of new forms, because they both had a lot . . .I'd say they still had a bunch, but even so. . .before, episode 10?
|
This episode was just the pick up I needed on this series. A good bit of background for Haruto (who despite being the rider has never felt there that much) and Phoenix is pretty kickass. Next week should be good.

i don't know why but as much as i love harutos character, there is something satisfying about watching him panic and get his ass handed to him by phoenix
|
Is it just me or did they purposely dress Shunpei and the kid similarly (at least with the shirts)? That was a pretty good episode, Phoenix is pretty ruthless. If the Wiseman actually is the White Wizard, I'll be interested to know what his game is seeing as how he gave Haruto the belt in the first place. Maybe he needs a certain amount of Phantoms dead for a ritual or something?

It'll turn out that all of Haruto's rings will spawn Phantom level ghouls, including the ones Shunpei, Rinko, and Koyumi are wearing. Killing them all, it will break Haruto and that will spawn a Phantom of epic proportions. |

White wizard might be wiseman....I wonder who called it I'll go look it up. |
Anyone else think that Shunpei acted more like a kid then the actual kid did?

I went and looked through the past threads and: Quote:

Loved the fight with phoenix and wizard, I got chills seeing Haruto all serious faced as he transformed…but I think one thing took me out of the moment…and that was the goofy noises the belt and the weapons made.

Ooh back story. This actually kinda confused me, when Haruto first talked with the kid's mom, it sounded like she was his mom too. But then they implied with that flashback that Haruto's parents died in that car crash. So then how does Haruto know that kid's mom? Was she one of the nurses?
Model Kit Real Robots are not cannon in Kamen Rider. I guess this means Tommy Westphall imagined Nakker The One aswell? :D That fight with Phoenix at the end was cool and all, but good god, that belt needs it's voice cut out(DEFEEEEND! PURESE. DEFEEEEND! PURESE. DEFEEEEND! PURESE). Lastly, I don't see why you guys think Wiseman is White Wizard. |
This episode really turned things around. The premise was starting to get a little stale but this was a great episode. It's always nice to seea hero get his ass kicked for real and abrely survive.
On the topic of Wiseman/White Wizard, if they pull another Virgo with him I will be incredibly pissed. That story worked great for Emoto/Tachibana/Virgo having them play both sides. It would be incredibly lazy and uninspired to see them do that again. |

Like the past couple of episodes, this one seemed to just fly by. Overall, I like it well enough. The story continues to hold my interest, so that's a plus.
I thought last week that the reason the phantom lit a house on fire to destroy the gate was only because the writers couldn't cross the line and set a kid ablaze. After seeing the mom brutality in this episode, I'm worrying that that may not be far off :eyebrow |
Only thing is. . .if the White Wizard is actually Wiseman then who sent Haruto the new stone (in a white box, carried by a white Garuda)
Other things I enjoyed about this episode: -Wiseman chills much like the witch at the end of Suspiria, I see. -I laugh so much whenever the audio cue for the Kraken summon comes on. :) |
I really liked this episode, but I'd like it more if Shunpei wasn't in it.

Encouraging Wizard Haruto doesn't contradict that goal, since Wizard Haruto mostly just prevents the Phantoms from being created - it's fairly rare for him to stop the Gates from losing all hope altogether. That would also explain why Wiseman didn't want the Gates flat out killed. You'd think if Wiseman didn't want new Wizards, that after it became clear he wasn't getting a new Phantom he'd just have the Gate killed so any possibility of them becoming a Wizard would die with them. It's a stretch, but there may be more we haven't learned yet. |
It's a stretch but it's an awesome one. I love that theory.
|
Then why does the Phantoms obey him ?
|
They're not very bright.
|
That would be quite a twist, actually. I like that idea.
|
Well it's the episode a lot of people wanted. An episode with Haruto getting ass handed to him.
|
So, on the Wiseman subject, I still think Wiseman is related to the police somehow. Maybe the highest ranking one. Maybe Wiseman is Haruto's father reborn as a Phatom. He can still be White Wizard to though I can go eitherway on them being one and the same.
Maybe it's all of the above. Haruto's father was reborn as the White Wizard aka Wismen Rider and then became police chief to help his goal. |

Incase you couldn't tell, I think this whole theory about Wiseman being every elusive character on this show is ridiculous(though the other Rider series I've seen(Den-O, Ryuki, Kabuto) aren't exactly laden with complex villains... who aren't riders). |
I got it.
Haruto is the White Wizard, who used the Time Ring to give himself his belt. |
