Offical Kabuto English Dub
Kamen Rider Kabuto has an offical English dub. Some of you may already know this, but I find it to be uncommon knowledge. It's no surprise that it's not well known since the dub was only aired in the Philippines as part of Toonami of all things. Recently I got my hands on a complete copy of the dub and decided to put some clips together as a sample of the dub. I made sure to get every rider in there. Plase forgive the video quality, it came that way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sul_...ature=youtu.be I do believe this is the only offical English dub of any Kamen Rider show, so I'm curious to know what people think of it. |
So. Yea this sucks. The VO work is just.. Oh my God.

I still think it's better than a 4Kids dub and most live action dubs made in the US though. |
LOLwut? Yeah....no. Although, I'm totally okay with the use of "Transform!" in place of "Henshin!" Hell of a lot better than Dragon Knight's "Kamen Rider!" That was just stupid.

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS!
I actually think that the acting talent is generally good, considering what they're given. And I really think this highlights how ridiculous some of things in Kabuto were in hindsight. For example: "My name is Tsurugi & I'm going to replace god with a slash of my sword", "I thought you were aware of the fact I'd already become the bee". But seriously, Blade Raider, I, we NEED more of this! Like the Black chef episodes, or when Tendou & Kagami team-up in area X, oh! Or the movie if that's been dubbed. Quote:

This was horrible, and should be buried. Somewhere deep in the earth. |

This would be better if it was an intentionally comedic dub xD
Also, I loved the voices for Drake and his rival, that generally made me laugh. |
My favorite voice is Yaguruma's. I'd just love to watch KickHoppers entire introduction with that voice. He sounds so different, but so cool at the same time!

well not great i say Viz media would of done a better job dubbing it due to theyre live action death note movies dubbs where good and i say this might be the only way if you want to do kamen rider in the USA is to get an anime dubb company like viz media to dub the show also it not bad it good try

Not bad. I wouldn't watch it, but it's pretty good for what it is.
|
I love how the Zecters still say "Henshin."

Ahh! a terrible Dub for a Terrible series. I like it!

Wow Blade. Another Goseiger joke. Whatever'll I do.
|
It's not the perfect bad dub unless someone's saying "But still . . ." every 2 minutes.
|
This is actually pretty good.

At least the VAs are trying. Not as well as I'd like, but it's much better than Masked Ride-Der.

Ah, the Philippines, one of the chief providers of anime and Japanese entertainment for my childhood. Badly dubbed as most of the anime were, I am grateful for this early exposure to their wonders.
I don't really think the voice acting is any worse than most dubbed anime. I think live-action shouldn't be dubbed, though, it always feels weird. Nevertheless I'm glad an effort was made to bring the series to other countries. Hopefully the next step would be better dubbing that would be more widely available throughout the world, or, if one can dream, widely-available, high quality subbed Toku. |
I've heard better, but I've heard much worse too so this gets a "not bad" from me. At the very least I'd watch it for a few laughs.

…This gives me flashbacks to that 4kids TIga dub.

Now for something sightly different. Here is a scene of the English dub with TV-Nihon's subtitles. The audio may be a millisecond or two out of sync, so keep that in mind. It is the very first scene from episode 25 complete with the last time and the begining of the intro (for timing purposes)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtiI8...ature=youtu.be You'll notice some differences, most (if not all) are trivial changes that just fit the lips better. The biggest change is that Tendou says 38 years instead of 35 years. The year change is because this dub was aired in 2009 (thus making it Decade's fault!) and you're suppose to assume these shows are in the present. There's one other rather different line. Tv-Nihon's translation is "Weird guys talking about weird fairy tales," while the Dub's translation is "We're just being geeks talking about sci-fi stuff." Personally I think the dub's line is way, WAY, better. Eitherway, you might notice that the BGM, sound effects, and intro theme are all left intact. Regardless of what you think about the voices, that alone makes it better than 4Kids', Saban's, and some other companies' dubs. Well people, it's time to "Gatalk" about the differences. Have at it. :p |
Onore! Decadoooooooo!!!!
|
On a serious note though, I've seen worse!
|
Well, they sure made Kagami sound as wimpy as he was. The only thing the videos you posted are lacking is their dub of "KAGAAAAAAMI".
|
It's... vaugely watchable, I guess. I think the only really big problem is that the voices don't really fit the characters that well. Also, they're all really terrible performers. You know what, screw it. This sucks.

What I wanna know is: How this compares to the 4kids Tiga Dub:

Kagami sounds like the guy who did voice acting in a lot of Jackie Chan films.
Tyson in Twin Dragons. |
I'll say this: some of the voice actors are pretty good. But Tendou... poor Tendou! He got short-changed beyond belief.
