Go-Busters Mission 2 discussion "A Promise Made 13 Years Ago"
Discuss the 2nd episode of the smash hit "Gobuster" here!
|
It was even more amazing than episode 1. I am loving the lack of generic stock footage shot for the change. I also love that the role call was simply them saying their names, then kicking ass.
|
The paralyzing chicken fear may just be the greatest weakness of all time.
|
Go-Buster-Ace has an endless supply of Swords by the looks of it.
I think the voice they got for the Morphing Brace is my favourite voice for a Henshin device I've heard. |
enter talking to master messiah in opening
master messiah look like zordon |
I really enjoyed this episode. Yellow Buster really isn't endearing herself to me but Red and Blue are pretty cool. Having the Metaroid and Megazord as separate monsters instead of just having the Metaroid grow after being defeated is an interesting concept, though I'd like it explained why they need to create a Metraroid to bring in a Megazord. If Gobusters keeps doing what it's doing I'm going to love this show.

Another really impressive episode. The development and backstory in this episode were extremely well done. I also loved the joke Hiromu made to Yoko about her face at the end. Hysterical. The mech battle was great.
Oh, and while this has nothing to do with the episode itself, it is nice that Overtime fixed their subs so the first few letters of each first sub word is not cut off the screen when the clock appears as it was with episode 1. |
And the second episode was just as fantastic as the first! I've gotta say that i already love where this series is headed. The Ace is apparently Cloud Strike now since Hiromu can just pull a sword out of thin air if he needs to. So far the mecha battles have a fantastic scale and scope to them. And that was hilarious when Yoko started shooting the Ace when Hiromu called her fat :lol

Another fantastic, its hard missing Gokaiger when Go-Busters is this good :D
I really like how the Metaroid and Megazord are two different entities, and an excellent dynamic between the team is already building. That bit at the end where Yoko shot at Ace was brilliant :lol I think Enter is going to be my favourite though - that guy is a badass. |
Still digging it. Enter has already done a better job at being the bad guy then walz did throughout his run. I like that the busters don't take any crap, morph, kick ass and have time to spare to put out fires =p
Yoko shooting Ace was awesome as was Yoko and Ryuji helping civilians, reminded me of light-speed rescue =) The explantation of their weaknesses was neat and i liked the development we got this week. Can we haz figuarts now plz? Didn't bother with the Gokaigers but after these two episode i really like the Busters suit designs and just want to own them =p Quote:

Lots of good things going on. I really like the team dynamic and the buddyroids. Enter is cool, and the separate Metaroid/Megazord baddies is a fresh take.
I'm already hooked on this show. I read this somewhere else, but this series has a "Neon Genesis Evangelion" Sentai feel to it. Chosen children, big calamity 10+ years ago, the control center has a NERV feel. Heck, even the closing song that seems at odds tone-wise to the show. Not complaining at all, just struck me. |
I wasn't going to really bother with this series, but i got to say i went ahead and saw this episode on a whim and it was pretty awesome! I think ill be tuning in of the rest of the series.
|
One thing I might have to start doing is counting how many times they throw away their sunglasses....I'm curious to know how many they'll have gone through by the end of the show :lolol

The mecha scenes are where it's at, I love the new perspective, and we never truly see or feel what devastation a fight between mecha and enemies can have on a city, the form changes are awesome too.
|
Spoiler: Messiah is the Y2K Virus!
...what? Messiah was sent into Hyperspace (or whatever) 13 years ago. Do the math! |

MAN! this series keeps going strong. so many of the greatest Sentais have started weak. not this time. But I'm seriously ready for the fully formed Mecha, but I'm getting the impressing it's gonna be at least ep. 4 by the time that happens.

My 3 year old cracked me up last night while watching Mission 2, he asked me: "Why they keep saying "IT'S MUFFIN TIME!!"? :lol

Oh, great episode! Great pacing, amazing fights, nice world-building. Beyond what everyone has said here already, I have to add that I LOVE the return of non-CGI mecha effects. Yes, they're still very reliant on CGI, but the rescue scene by Rabbit and Gorilla was amazing, it reminded me of why I fell in love with Tokusatsu last time. This show still has some of the most exciting mecha scenes I've seen in quite a while!
|
Wasn't expecting that they'd explain why Yoko has such a sweet tooth. At first, I thought it was just going to be her character-quark.
Also, the enemy megazord's head really reminds me of the GNX From gundam 00: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...px-GN-X_FV.jpg |

Wow, 10 glasses already, and it's only the 2nd episode!:lol
I picture the Gobusters having like, a large box just filled with nothing but sunglasses:lol Certinally makes me wonder how much it costs to make them, if they can just toss'em away like that. |

Still not 100% sold on this show just yet. Good action, story has potential, but we'll see how they handle it. Soon as we get in to a bunch of "filler" episodes, it'll probably lose my interest.

Venjix and Messiah are basically the exact same idea. Venjix was a computer virus that became sentient ... so far, Messiah is the same (as far as we know). In the end of Power Rangers RPM, Venjix was able to download the "bio field" or basically "the morphing grid" and use it to "delete" Megazords and Power Rangers (Gem and Gemma aka Gold and Silver). Dr. K, the mentor of RPM, was able to put a virus into Venjix and basically hack the "bio field/morphing grid" and undo the damage Venjix caused. But the very last scene of the show has RPM Ranger Red's morpher blinking red while the Venjix music plays...leading you to believe that Venjix isn't gone, but is actually trapped inside the morpher. They could easily translate (thus far) in to a sequel series knowing all that beforehand, but Saban and Tzachor have shown disdain for the Disney-era shows (even Wild Force by ignoring Rick Medina played "Cole" the Red Wild Force Ranger) and it's likely we'll ever get anything worthwhile. "Clash of the Red Rangers" was done only because Saban bought the rights to the Go-Onger/Shinkenger movie and wanted to capitalize on the footage. |

Back to Buster! I need a cool nickname for Nick. I call the bunny Roger Rabbit and the ape Trukk Munky. I have no idea what their names are and don't really care. Surly Nick has some odd trait that makes for a good 4th wall breaking nickname. |
Not reading the spoilers because I do one day plan to watch RPM.
I got an idea though. The PR version can have that Zordon's conciousness was stored into a computer program, but then a rampant virus infected it and he becomes whatever the US name for Messiah would be. I mean, he already looks like Zordon, a giant round head, just red instead of blue. |

So, I decided to give this a watch despite not even being halfway through Gokaiger.
Okay, here's what's making me dig the hell out of this show: the miniature work and the accompanying mecha scenes. Usually, when I think of Sentai mecha scenes, my mind instantly goes to "some smallish, not-very detailed buildings in the first few episodes, desert wasteland for the rest." And yet, here we've got Gobusters, with some of the best miniature work and kaiju/mecha choreography I've seen in a while. On a TV budget! You can actually feel the weight of these things as they move, and the pyrotechnics actually seem like they mean something, thanks to the miniatures looking like real buildings and cars and things. Two things though: for starters, I've got a nasty feeling that they're not going to be able to keep up this kind of miniature work given the length of a typical Sentai show, and honestly, unless the story winds up being amazing, that will lose me. Also, is anyone else finding the video quality on Over-Time's releases kinda shoddy? I'm getting a lot of elements and some sections that don't play right at all. |

I'd like to believe it means we're going to get team-ups galore, but the truth of the matter is ... unless the Sentai footage and storyline calls for it, we won't. When I see words "adaption" and "translation" in the opening scenes of each episode, I'm reminded that Saban didn't hire WRITERS ... but rather ADAPTIONISTS ... people that can turn a Japanese show in to an American show while keeping a majority of the storyline of the Japanese show intact. Think of it as a voice over company, like FUNimation, simply adding English voices to the footage. It's just barely one step above that. |
Though I've seen stronger starts I'm liking what I see so far with this series. The Go-Busters seem like their be another fun cast to follow and I see alot of potential on the villains side. Can't wait to see where things go.
