Conundrum's W.I.P.s - Updated 1/15
 

Thought it would be fun to show a little more of what it takes to convert the 5inch 'Action Zords' into Retrofire-Esque versions.

Two that have progressed from the planning to construction phase are DekaBase Robo/S.P.D. Command Megazord and the Astro Megazord from PR In Space.

DekaBase is bigger than your standard 5"-6" Retrofires/SRCs and will have 20 Points of Articulation. It's always depicted as being massive and larger than DekaRobo so I wanted to keep that scale. It's primarily made from a KO candy toy, a transforming Shadow Ranger Figure, and a Classics Optimus.

What's everyone think of that hands? That's one thing I'm not 100% certain on so far.

The Astro Megazord fits right in that 5"-6" Retrofire scale and will have 20 points of articulation when done. It's primarily made from an Action Zord and a classics Optimus Prime with gundam hands and ball joints from junk figures. Modified sword and shield is from Lego.

Just need to attach the one hip 'wing' then it's off to the clean up stage before it hits paint. It's come along very very quickly and that's not a bad thing.

Updated first post with progress on the Astro Megazord. Just need to clean it up and it'll be ready for paint.

ohhhhh man. :)

Will it have 22 points of articulation? Yes. Able to seperate into the 5 ninjazords? No.

I entertained the idea but in the end I felt it would be too difficult to add a lot of articulation while still having the animal zords look 'normal'.

I think it would look better anyways to have this big guy (he'll be about 14 inches tall) displayed in an awesome pose with the ninjazords around him.

oh right well you could of done so it looks like the CGI ninja zords

Do you have any plans to do one of the Shogun zord (the one from Dairanger. I'm not far enough into the series yet to know it's Sentai name)?

It wasn't even called the Shogunzord in PR. It was the Thunder Megazord.

It's called DaiRenOh in Dairanger FYI.

I have a bunch of retrofire projects lined up but do have some larger scale customs planned. I will say that I want to split up the Thunder Megazord and Red Dragon thunderzord into two seperate projects.

I've been commissioned to make a deluxe Tigerzord though, so that takes priority once I finish up this big one.

Oh, alrighty then. And damnnnnn, can't wait to see what the Tigerzord looks like when you're done.

Work on the Ninja Megazord is progressing, albeit slowly.

In the meantime, I decided to practice sculpting on this figure:

The base figure was a Nanosuit figure from Neca's Crysis 2 line. All of the white stuff is sculpt.

I'm really happy with sculpted parts on the body but am a bit 'iffy' on the staff. I think the 'Z' is just a bit too big.

The sculpting on the figure itself looks really good mate. I do agree though that the Z looks, weird.

I started completely over on the staff and decreased the size of the 'Z'. I think it looks a lot better. Just need now to apply the base coat and then paint.
