Who's the better Villian?
 

Watching Wizard, and ReWatching the last KR season of Fourze, I started comparing the two. Mostly comparing the villians. Personally I like the Hororscopes more. They had more personality, and though I like Medusa's design the Hororscopes and Zodiarts had a better look overall. Even Cockroach Libra.

I still love Wizard. I still like the designs of the Phantoms. But the Horoscopes and Zodiarts were just better. Even of Sagittarius was a bit of a design letdown, I was expecting more somehow.

But what do you guys think? Have the Phantoms won your hearts yet?

The Zodiarts had more motive and personality. Each had a story...the phantoms are way to motw. The hellhound at the beginning I had hopes for...then he got axed and we move on...same with the cat. I liked the idea of monsters living to fight again...it made a greater impact when they were finally defeated. The Lucky Clover from Faiz or the El of Water from Agito are great examples.

I've only seen Wizard so I can't judge here.

The Horoscopes and Zodiarts are far, far superior. The Zodiarts were motivated by their own reasons, sometimes even just reasons corrupted into more sinister actions. They didn't exist solely to do the bidding of the Horoscopes. Watching them you learned of their character, why they're doing what they're doing.

With the Phantoms, they have a personality (Sometimes), but it's nonexistent and they're essentially set pieces for fights so that the series can have an action sequence. There is no depth or wonder, no goals or ambitions. The Phantoms can essentially be treated as drones to the queen bee hierarchy of Phoenix, Medusa, and Wiseman, with only one Phantom even having an ambition beyond obeying the masters (Cait Sith's wish to just sleep all day).

I keep waiting for Sith to ride out on a giant plushie robot. I wish the Phantoms had more personality. Maybe even i they showed how each Phantom was created, it would add some kind of emotion. Otherwise.. meh. I still love Wizard. I just wish he had better villians.

Not one of them could even hold a candle to the weakest Zodiart you could name.

I like the Phantoms a lot more. Phoenix and Medusa are both really fun characters and I like having monsters that are actually monsters again - not people with some kind of switch or largely mindless dolls made out of medals. Phantoms are intelligent, they have a clear goal, and they're not afraid to cause death and destruction to get their way. I think they're the best monsters we've had in years. Zodiarts, on the other hand, were just watered down Dopants and most of the Horoscopes were just standard MotWs.

Monsters being monsters is one thing, but they are just mindless dolls. "Wreck shit and despair" is all they do, they can just speak better than the Yummies.

While the Zodiarts can be seen as a continuation of Dopants, I wouldn't call them watered down, most often because the setting allows for a more interesting set of characters to be attached to.

Phantoms are alright, but yeah..definitely preferred the Zodiarts, at least so far. We'll see what they do with Phantoms as the series goes on.

It's a bit hard to judge considering Fourze is all wrapped up and Wizard's only about a third in. I do enjoy Phoenix and Medusa, but the Zodiarts and Horoscopes were overall more developed as characters than any MOTW Phantom has been so far.

What Fourze were you watching? What I saw were Zodiarts with personality, who took the switch for deeply personal reasons. Not the Moster of the Week style we're getting with Wizard. None of them have a reason to do what they're going, they're just doing it. And they aren't watered down Doponts, either. Outside of Leo, the Horoscopes were much deeper than just "Imma make you cry rofl!" like the Phantoms have been. Virgo/Tachibana for example had deeply personal reasons for being both a Horosope, and Tachibanana. Libra, Scorpio, Cancer, all had wonderful backstories and reasons for doing what they do.

While the Phantoms just appear and start blowing crap up for no reason. Like I said before: If they would show the creation of the Phantoms, give them some kind of human face (So to speak), they'd be so much better than they are. I like Medusa's design, I hope she gets a Figuart, but no Phantom personality could hold a candle to a Horoscope. Because thew Phantoms don't have personalities.

That includes Leo.

To be fair though, even from the beginning the individual Zodiarts were given backstories, motivations, goals, and we could tell that there was something more going on behind them.

All we've seen from the Phantoms, Wisemen, etc. is that they want to create more Phantoms.

I think the Zodiarts have gotten that because they were human and did need some redemption at the end (at least the motw's) while Phantoms can just be killed off. Still, the Phantom's do have the memories of their hosts so maybe they could do something with that.

That would've made them so much better. Instead we get them appearing, attacking, then being defeated. It's like watching Power Rangers in the early days.

I do have some hopes for the phantoms, granted they seem MotW for the most part, but the one with the fadora seems to be more the your run-of-the-mill Phantom. But for the most part the Zodiarts did have more depth in character and I do like there desing better on averge, but the show is still younge, who knows what surpries wait around the corner

For now the Zodiarts are far more interesting than the Phantoms. I guess part of this is because the characterization is now on the MOTW's victims rather than the monsters themselves. Last time we explored the motivations of the Zodiarts, but now we focus more on the hopes of the Gates.

Can I be brutally honest? Zodiarts, outside some of the commanders (Cancer Libra Virgo), and the Phantoms (outside Phoenix) are all pretty damn bland :lol

What's the ideal villain group for you then, Den-O?

Obviously it's the Undead from Blade. Obviously.

I personally think that the Zodiarts were better characters, but design-wise I think they are equal.

You didn't like the Swan or any of the others from Fourze?

I'd have to say after watching some 555,I really like the Orphanochs.The evil human hating ones.Not only are they extremely brutal,but they even hate their own kind,at least the ones that don't want to kill.And I really love the fact that to make their group grow,they have to kill off the humans and just hope they turn,it's not even a 100% chance thing.

I don't know, liking a series doesn't always translate to liking the villains. :) I love Gokaiger but you won't find me espousing the genius of the Zangyack.

I'm pretty much with you there. I'm sick of monsters whose main mission is more about inconveniencing people. I miss monsters like the Lords or the Grongi; they didn't want to make people sad or greedy or anything, they just flat out killed people. I don't think we've had monsters actually kill civilians since Decade. I suppose this is more kid-friendly, but I miss the higher stakes and stronger horror aspects.

Pretty sure I saw a Dopant controlled car running down and killing people (via the use of a virus) in W not too long ago. Admittedly those were gang members and it was an act of revenge, but point still stands.

Or the assassination attempt on a civil servant and her daughter...

I actually prefer monsters with a greater agenda than wanton murder. Gimme something like Uva farming humans for Cell Medals in OOO or the Battle Royale in Blade any day.

I didn't. Capricorn was cool though. I want a figuart of him and of Todoroki so they can hang out.

Gremlin so far is the second best villain, with Phoenix sitting at the top (and in the sun) as the real show stopper as far as bad guys go. Wiseman needs to step up his game or else he'll go down as the lamest KR Big Bad since....that silver headed fellow from Saban's Masked Rider.

I know this is about Wizard. But.. I've been watching Kuuga. And I'm pretty sure N Daguva Zeba, or any other Gurongi you could name. Without question.

Daguva is kind of weird in that he's almost exclusively a background threat. All of the Grongi are terrified of him, but the show very rarely shows him actually doing anything. But yeah, the Grongi don't mess around. They don't want to make you sad, they don't want to see if you could be an ally, they just want to murder you in a horrifying manner to earn a new high score. I miss monsters like them.
