Power Rangers Lost Galleries! DX Gingaman GigaRhinos
 

To celebrate Power Rangers 20th Anniversary we're remembering Power Rangers Lost Galaxy this month! In honor of that we bring you this gallery of the Seiju Sentai Gingaman DX GigaRhinos! Better known in the US as the Centarus Megazord! The GigaRhinos began life as the Starbeast GingaRhinos before being split into 5 GigaWheel vehicles. Weapons from the 5 individual machines form GigaRhinos' main weapon, the Gigantis Buster!

Notice anything about this figures design? Or that of it's companion robo the DX GigaPhoenix? The designs of these 2 mecha were clearly influenced by early Showa Sentai. Multiple vehicles which come together to form satisfyingly blocky and very mechanical looking robots. They hearken back to the days of such classic Showa mecha designs as Dynarobo, Changerobo, and Flashking! You don't see DX designs quite like this anymore.

I wondered why Siren Builder looked so familiar to me. I was thinking about this guy :lol

This and Phoenix were my favorites. That also might explain why I like Siren, come to think of it. Very nicely done, Den!

Huh, I'd never realised the similarities between this and Siren Builder before, that's pretty neat.

Out of the two galleries you've done so far, I'd say GigaRhinos is probably my favourite. He's just so gloriously retro.

And sadly we'll probally never see anything like him again.

I always loved the"power walking" motion he did to stand up. Very memorable.

awesome again Den make wish i had the money to get these of the US ones but one big questions did they ever released special edition with there evil faces on them

Rhinos has always been one of my favorite DX's. I had the US version as a kid and loved it too. I wanted to get a picture of him walking/rising up but the joints dont work quite the same way as siren Builder.

Yep! That's good old DX Providas Robo from Timeranger. He only comes with the DX Providas Base playset, which accomadates the other Timeranger machines.

I think the Gingaman designers had a bit of fun coming up with these robos, especially the heads of the 'evil' versions. I'm no Japanese robo expert but I definitely see some classic mecha influences in there.

I remember when I could've gotten the American version but chose not to.
I don't know what it is, but something about him always turned me off from him...

I definitely noticed what everyone else did. Siren Builder is clearly influenced by GigaRhinos. The legs are a dead giveaway. However GigaRhinos isn't where that awesome leg design originates. That honor belongs to Dynarobo!

Am I right in assuming there's no evil heads for these? Because I prefer them much more.

No evil heads I'm afraid :( Although that's one of those things I think some kind of 3rd party toy group should do. It's a shame there's no 3rd party love for Sentai like there is for Transformers.

Someone needs to convince a 3rd Party group that there is profit to be made outside of Gen 1 TFs...
3rd Party Sentai mechs with the ability to combine and the articulation of the SRCs? They can just take my wallet.

I'm not even necessarily concerned with articulation. I just want upgrades or accessories that were never made as DX's. Or accessories for Figuarts that should have been made but haven't.

*cough*Minipla*cough*

Seriously. They're not perfect, but if you can stand the assembly, painting/stickering, and somewhat simplified transformation(though that varies from figure to figure), I think they're more than worth your time.

Screw minipla.
Yes. They have elbows, wrists, and knees.
I want a full sized figure.
Yes. They're good little models. That doesn't mean they're good figures.

Wait a second. Models =/= Figures? How long has this been happening? O_o

You could always just make your own...

And that's a serious suggestion. I had a blast making my dx white tiger and strongly support the customization of other dx mecha.

The list I have of these is endless.

For me, it's the painting/stickers that prevents me from liking Minipla better. I generally dislike stickers, and I hate how the stickers are so tiny and loose in the Minipla. If I had a friend who I could ask/hire to paint the Minipla professionally, I'd probably be quite a dedicated buyer. As it is now, it's my only major dislike of Minipla.

As someone who loves to build and paint them(I only use stickers for details that aren't molded in), Minipla is right up my alley.

I'd strongly consider that if not for the fact that I seem to develop Parkinson's whenever I try to do something delicately :lol
