Forum member Secretcode has just clued us into some HUGE news for Godzilla fans out there. Import Monsters has just posted an image from Wonderfest 2013 of none other than the great Toho beast himself, S.H. Monsterarts Showa (1964) Godzilla! No other information is available at this time such as price or release date. But for any one whose been a fan of the S.H.Monsterarts line and has been waiting for Bandai to show some Showa love, then this is incredible news!

It could very well be the '64 suit, that being the one from Godzilla Vs. Mothra.

I don't know much about Godzilla, I just figured it would be the 54 version since it's the first one.

For all I know, maybe the suit that debuted in 64 is the most iconic suit of the Showa era...

I honestly can't differentiate the suits from one picture at a bad angle.
But Godzilla Vs. Mothra is considered one of the best of the series...

Jet Jaguar , Showa Gigan & Megalon to go!

As much as I love Megalon and Jet Jaguar, I honestly think Mothra, one of, like, 2 other daikaiju to appear in every era, should get a figure.

No doubt about it. Mothra should have really been at least the 3rd-5th Monsterart out the gate. It's a crime that he hasn't been made yet.

I only say i want the ones i listed because of personal bias :D

Mothra is one of my personal favorite monsters, so I'd be all over a Monster Art of her.

Jet Jaguar and Megalon I'd grab, they're just a little low on my priority list :p

Showa Goji looks boss. Really great to see them branching out into Showa.

Now, if only we could get a Kiryu...

I still find it hilarious that they chose the dumbest Mechagodzilla to release first.

Clearly '64, a very popular and iconic suit. Awesome. Now we need '54 and '63 to go with it!

I'm not exactly in love with it. Mainly because I'm having bad memories of later Showa movies where the suit was barely keeping together and just kind of...Derpy :p

Eh, I like Heisei Mecha G. Not as cool as Kiryu but I like him better than the Showa one (pulls out flame shield).

Also helps that is Monster Art is the most poseable out of the ones I have (which is basically the first four they made, still need to get the rest).

I just felt MG1 was designed better than 2. I just don't see the aesthetic they were trying to achieve with 2.

Honestly, I prefer the Heisei series over the Showa. The only reason the Showa series is as highly regarded as it is is because of nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, I highly enjoy most of the movies, but regardless of how dumb the plot to Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is, I find the movies to be superior, especially thanks to its continuity that went on throughout the entire era of movies. I find the monster suits to be superior, as they don't look like they are going to fall apart at any given moment, the monsters do not perform gymnastics, the effects are a lot more flash thanks to the amount of night time battles, and the music rocks.

Again, I don't hate the Showa era, but the movies became hit or miss after Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster. Monster Zero was a weak follow up and started the annoying alien subplots. Then we went to three horrific movies with Minilla. Thankfully, they gave us Destroy All Monsters, but then it went right back in the dumps until Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla, especially with Megalong and Hedorah, which are two of the worst movies in the entire franchise.

With that said, the only Showa monsters I would buy are 54 Godzilla, Mothra, Gigan, and Anguirus. Well, maybe I would also get the Showa MG, but that would depend on when it were to come out.

Okay, but what does that have to do with '64? That suit was really only used 3 times, and it had a new head in Monster Zero.

I'm not surprised to see '64 over '54... '64 is very popular suit design from highest regarded color film of the era.

Were getting Godzilla '64!?!!?!? Holy. Crap. Its nice that Tamashii is showing some Showa love for Godzilla. I havent picked up any Heisei or current Tamshii Godzilla releases, since, this year, Im spending money on PR. I only have 9 Godzilla figures and 4 megazords.

Was it? Huh. I thought that suit was used a lot more than that.

I think you need to re-examine your Showa timeline.

After Monster Zero, we get Sea Monster. No Minya, no aliens.

Then comes Son of Godzilla, which has Minya, but no aliens.

Then comes Destroy All Monsters, which has Minya, and aliens.

Next is Godzilla's Revenge/All Monsters Attack, which has Minya but no aliens.

So three movies with Minya, which you call horrific, when really only one of them is poor (Revenge). One is sort of low key and one of them is the one you are "thankful" for.


The suits may have been better constructed but save Biollante none of the designs are relatively "better" for the new monsters. Battra's not exactly groundbreaking, MOGUERA and Spacegodzilla aren't really all that original, and Destroroyah is purposefully based on other, non-Toho monsters.

The budgets were much higher, of course the suits and effects will be better.

Monster gymnastics, I think you may be thinking of Gamera vs Guiron.

The fights have plenty of "flash" but many lack any real heart. A lot of beam battles, mostly.

If you are not interested in buying a Monsterarts of G'64, don't worry. It'll sell out fast enough.

Meh, "eyebrows" Godzilla isn't exactly one of my Faves. Would have loved 62 since its my all time favorite with 54 & 68 being tied at 2nd.

Dont forget the millenium era! The first twp movies of that era were "meh." The last millenium movies was a mixed reaction. The soundtracks for the millenium series were impeccable. The music used in GMK was very different than most Godzilla movie soundtracks. You get the feeling of mythical beasts. Legends per say. Tokyo S.O.S. also had an amazing sountrack. The battles were very neatly choreographed. The effects are impressive.

Love the Mosugoji 64 suit and can't wait to get this figure!

That last one is a long shot but those are the biggest on my want list for this era. Although I want to see how they handle Anguirus. If they will make him crawl on his hind legs or take "liberty" with the mold and make him a proper quadruped monster.

I feel like we're definitely gonna get Mothra, Baragon, Rodan, King G, Gigan, Mecha G and Minya. Everything else feels like a long shot, to me anyway.

If we do get a Gigan, which do you think it'll be first? Showa Green or the more current Black?

What about Anguruis?

Sorry, I meant the island trilogy, not the Minilla trilogy. I hated those. Almost as bad as I hate Megalon and Hedorah. Ghidorah TTHM is probably my favorite of the entire Showa era because it was able to give us great monster battles mixed with an excellent human story, and normally, I just write off the human story 90% of the time. That's really why I felt like everything beyond that was lacking in the Showa era. Yeah, you could say the Heisei movies did not have the best human stories either, but they had complete continuity to them.

I won't argue that for Mothra and Ghidorah, as I do think the Showa designs for better for their premier, but there was a huge difference with the others. Yeah, Moguera could go either way, but SpaceGodzilla and Destoroyah were awesome looking. It's just a shame that the SpaceGodzilla movie was utter crap.

They may have been a lot of beam battles, but they were kept more grounded in reality. You did not see Godzilla using his breath to fly. He was not jumping up and down like an idiot when he beat Ghidorah. He was not doing jump kicks, suplexes, and the like as he did in the later Showa movies. Plus, Rodan did not have something that looked like a clothes pin stuck to his beak in every other shot.

That's cool. Yeah, I want the versions from 54, 89, and GMK.

Anguirus? Really? I wouldn't call him iconic, being entirely absent from the films for a 30 year gap until Final Wars...

I don't know. He seemed like a prominent early character when I marathon'd the Cinemassacre Monster Madness Godzillathon. I also always liked him from the games.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Millennium Gigan, but I feel like that's something they'd do after a Millennium Goji, because they way they're going with the line is that they're doing the main Goji from the series first, then doing the monsters; so we'll probably have Showa for a little bit after '64 Goji gets released.

As for Angurius, he'd probably get made because he's a Goji ally; like Baragon.

Final Wars Gigan is blue. A very dark blue that also looks black half the time in Final Wars, yes, but blue.

The more interesting question would be whether a SHMA Showa Gigan would be blue or green. Both colors are frequently represented, not helped by the fact that the two suit variations are an indistinguishable mix of the two 90% of the time.

Outside of Godzilla Raids Again and Final Wars, I couldn't name any other film appearances of Anguirus (He was in Vs. Gigan, too, but I remembered because it was mentioned in the source of where I grabbed that Gigan pic :lol)
His appearance in the games is probably a big factor in his notability, though.

I understand. And I guess with the release of Destroyah they have conquered all the Heisei monsters outside Biollante, Battra, and Mothra (I can't think of any other Heisei era monster that doesn't have a figure).

Since they are in Showa now, I wonder if we'll see an Ebirah.

Could've fooled me. I legitimately thought Millennium Gigan was black.
