Let's Watch Gekiranger 1-3!
Let's Watch Wednesdays is back! So let's dive right in!
Niki-Niki Geki-Juken! Discuss! |
i wait see 1 ep of gekiranger
|
If only I wasn't currently watching Gaki No Tsukai :lol
I'll get on this tomorrow/later tonight if I'm not completely drained. |
Just finished episode one. And I can see why Matrix loves it so much. I like the martial arts theme which kind of reminds me of Dairanger, but just with animals. Jan is freaking hilarious, and I love cat. And Mere is pretty good looking.
Yeah, I'll definitely be going along for this whole LW. |
First time doing one of these Let's Watches and my first time watching Gekiranger.
Pretty good first couple of episodes.I'm really digging the focus on the martial arts and the way the fights are filmed.I'm also liking Jan.I'm usually kinda iffy when it comes to newbie Reds, but seeing him in action makes me expect a lot of cool stuff from him. Rio and Mele are looking to be some pretty good villains.I usually can't take human-actor villains seriously, but they just have this presence to them. The Ranger designs are really growing on me,I love the round cat mouths on the helmets :3.They could have made the mouths just flat mouth-plates,but they give the helmets some character.People give Go-Busters credit for some good mech fights, but they aren't as fast paced as these.GekiTouja gets to move around so much,I always watch the mech fights anyway and this just makes me want to watch them even more. Definitely gonna keep watching and I feel this series will end up being one of my favorites. |
You guys are in for a treat, Gekiranger is the best paced, most thought out Sentai I have ever seen, there are seeds of the finale planted in episode one. SO Good!

Jan has just so much energy, and I love how he always refers to Shafu as "Cat."
And every time I see the inside of SCRTC headquarters, I keep wishing that the brand was defictionalized somehow, I want SCRTC athletic gear! WAKIWAKI! |
I'm loving all the love it's getting as of just episode 1 :D

Yeah I have to admit that SCRTC reminds me a lot of Nike.
|
It is a sports company, after all.
Hell, considering it's penchant for plastering it's logo on everything, it just might be Nike :lol |

I watched these episodes like a month ago. The early episodes just make me miss RJ. Here's a copy and paste from the watching thread of these episodes: Quote:

I'm a bit ahead of episode 3, but so far I'm mostly liking Gekiranger. I wish I had a better sense of Ran and Retsu, but I'm finding Jan fun. Dude's hella on crack, but he's fun. The only part of the show I really don't like is the cat dude. It's the creepy long arms with the tiny hands. I assume they were trying to go the Doggie route again, but he that suit was much, much better.
Also, Mele is hot. |

And I definitely agree about GekiTouja. Quote:

It's been a while since I've seen the series, so I think I'll follow along with this and go nuts about this show all over again. |
It's been sometime since I've seen Gekiranger but as soon as I can find time tonight or tomorrow I'll burn my way through 1-3. In between Gaoranger that is :p

Ah Gekiranger, how nostalgic. Takes me back to collegic days. Having watched the entire series before, I notice a few things that allude to future elements of the series like the animals behind Miki as she talked about Geki Jyuken and SCRTC, the voices of the Kenma when Rio spoke to them, and Rio's dream before Mele tries to attack him. The fight choreography is still as gorgeous and fluid as I remember it. Though I'm wondering if Koichi Sakamoto worked on this show. As I have been exposed to his filming style quite a bit in these past few years, I notice Gekiranger has a few of his hallmarks.
These eposdes show how criminal it was that Gokaiger didn't use the Gekiranger theme for its spotlight episode. With or without the lyrics, that is a powerful and awesome theme to kick ass to. One thing I liked about this show is that the MOTW are promoted version of the grunts, and then create their own individual identity by transforming. It's a neat and interesting touch. Another thing great about this series is the giant battles. GekiTouja's design allows it very fluid movements and lets you believe it's a giant super robot instead of a guy in a suit. Also Bae's commentary is fun. And Mele is hot as always :lol. Really looking forward to next week because we'll be seeing episode 4. That episode really sets the tone for the series. |

God Mele is so hot Rio is so Awesome And GekiToujas ultimate form (sadly only used 3 times) is so incredibly sexy. |

Gekiranger's countless homages and parodies towards Kung Fu flicks are also what makes the show fun to watch. The voice actors of the 7 masters for instance, are all people who voice famous Kung Fu actors regularly (i.e. Ikeda Shuichi who voices Bat Li is a regular pick for voice-overs of Jet Li in Japan). Even the Godokuken fighters are such a great homage to the Five Venoms movie by the Shaw Brothers. And the mecha battles being presented in the form of a match thanks to Bae is also what made the mecha battles fun. |

While, reading all of this is making me like the series even more. I need to watch episodes 2 and 3 at some point tomorrow. |
Wait so the discussion is here?!? I thought it was here: http://www.tokunation.com/showthread.php?t=28597
Good to see everyone's discussing it so far. I'll just repost what I said earlier with one or two additions: Quote:

I'm just assuming discussion will be on the episode announcements.

Just finished up episode 2. Jan is a hilarious freak and by God do I love him for it. Retsu reminds quite a bit of the other blue rangers in the fact of him being quite smart as well as serious. But like most of that type, he seems to have some form of a goofy side to him. I can't say a whole lot about Ran yet other then, kawaii.
Robotuff already seems funny as Hell to me (although not as funny as Navi or Alpha). Cat (yes I'm calling him cat) is pretty enjoyable as well. And as I'm sure to say later in in the discussions, Mele!! GekiTouja is pretty cool looking albeit a little simple. But non the less, it's still a nice mecha design. Although that final attack makes me wonder how dizzy they'd get on a daily basis. All in all, episode 2 was pretty neat. P.S. I love having commentary during the fight. |
Watched the third episode, I did enjoy it quite a bit. The dust cloth training concept was superior to the identical version in Jungle Fury.
I'm beginning to see the personalities of the main cast emerge and the mecha battles remain really cool. Next few episodes promise to be even more exciting so I'm looking forward to them. |
I did it I saw the first three trainings

This is what I said in the other thread after seeing the first episode:

Mele is very hot. Can I join the evil team? Jan wasn't quite as spastic these episodes, I hope he calms down a little more though. But really my main problem is how serious he looks in the opening sequence, but his face is never that calm or focused in the episode. I really enjoy the martial arts, and the mecha fights are good so far. I don't mind the commentary, but I don't like the fly. So far I like director whatshername, and Ran and Retsu. Did I mention that Mele is hot? Ran isn't bad either. So far, I don't like the mech designs. I tend to not be a fan of mecha-beasts that turn into full on humanoid robots. I don't hate GekiTouja, it's certainly not a deal breaker, but it's nowhere as cool as Shinkenoh, or DekaRobo, or Daibouken, in my opinion. But I'm enjoying the series, it's fun, and I'm definitely along for the rest of the ride. And I want GekiRanger figuarts now. Oh, and 5 second advert at the end of the episode for Den-O made me sad that I wasn't watching Den-O. I love that show. |

I tackled the first 3 episodes over the weekend. And every moment reminded me of why I love this show so much. I don't think any other Sentai will overtake it. I hope Akibranger Season 2 uses the Gekiranger Inordinate Power so we can get started on those figuarts. Still waiting for the release of Rio and Mele.
