What was the very first Super Sentai that you watched?
What the title says.
After years and years of Power Rangers, what was the very first Super Sentai series that you ever saw? (and the horrifically dubbed Bioman episodes do NOT count). |
I was told by that feller Timey2Wimey on twitter to watch Shinkenger before Samurai aired. I did. the rest is history.
Shinkenger. I had gotten into Kamen Rider first with W, and was watching a few other things at the time, though I thought I should do something else with the time. I kept hearing how good Shinkenger was, so I decided to check it out. Watched it w/ my sisters and I don't regret it one bit.
(On topic or off, I used to keep up with Dekaranger stuff when SPD was on, just because I was able to find it via Wikipedia. I thought it was interesting at the time, being 10 and all but didn't have enough interest at the time to find subs for it. Annnd now I'm on episode 16 of it. Aha.) |
I tried a few episodes of Dekaranger. Sadly I had no idea about sub groups and all that, but it looked fun. Then nothing again really ... an ep here or there of Magiranger or Shinkenger ... but Gokaiger? Every ep, every movie, love it.
For the record DekaRanger was my first. Deka Master FOREVER!!!
Go-onger is the first show I watched as it was subbed. Saw bits and pices here and there before that.
my first sentai was CarRanger, but I got back into sentai with Shinkenger
My flatmate last year started watching Gokaiger as soon as it aired, and I soon got hooked...not just my first Sentai series, but my first toku series other than PGSM!
Gokaiger for me literally just found out about sub groups this week thanks to blue death/Den-O
Gokaiger, to be honest. It's the first Sentai show that I watched in full. Well, watching in full, since it hasn't ended yet.

I've been interested in other Sentais, but I don't know what it is about sub groups never completing Sentai subs (Rather, the series I want to watch :lol) |
Shinkenger was my first but I watched Go-Onger at the same time thanks to PR RPM
still waiting to watch Hurricanger and Abaranger though im dyin to watch those 2 |
My first would be...
Oh, God. An old VHS sub of Gingaman VS Megaranger in 1999, and from there the first half or so of GoGo V, and then a good chunk of Megaranger. GoGo V and Megaranger being completely raw with no subs, mind you. |
Mine would be Boukenger. Can't remember how I wound up at TV-Nihon(I think I was looking for Zoids Genesis subs or something), and saw that up there. Thought why the hell not and gave it try since I liked Power Rangers till my schedule kept me from watching episodes. Been hooked ever since.
I started Dekaranger a few weeks ago, but haven't been super impressed with it. After two episodes I took a break and started Gokaiger. I'm 7 or 8 eps into Gokaiger and 4 into Dekaranger.
I'm thinking that in general I will find that I'm not really a Sentai fan. Kamen Rider yes, but sentai no. But I'm not sure yet. Gokaiger's been okay so far, though all the cameos by past rangers and homages to past teams is going completely over my head, so I'm not getting the full effect of the show. |
Magiranger!!! :D
Gokaiger was the first one I started to watch, but the first one I've watched all the way through is Shinkenger. Both are great shows.
My first I believe would be Shinkenger. I say I believe, because I started it, then while it was airing, I started/finished GekiRanger and Boukenger. So while those 2 were my first completed series, Shinkenger was my first started one.
Gokaiger, I had known about Sentai from watching Kamen Rider, and when it started airing I decided, why not? Then I fell in love with the show, I've watched a few episodes here and there, trying to get through Dekaranger right now.
The first Sentai that I can remember watching was Denziman, and I just kept watching from then on till Turbo Ranger, then I didn't watch anything till Power Ranger came on.
For me it was Battle Fever J, I prefer to start franchises from the oldest one I can find subtitled and that's the oldest I found.
My gateway drug believe it or not was Zyuranger. On accident! I was browsing the Netflix instant queue one Sunday mornin' and I noticed that MMPR was listed among the TV selections. Keep in mind I was 15/16 when MMPR originally aired. I read back in the day about how this was a show that had originally aired in Japan and this was a localization. I gave it a shot and to be honest I didn't care for it. Bulk and Skull didn't help. I liked the Zord and the fight sequences but that was it. Now, back to my original point. Sooooo I decided to give MMPR another shot and I watched the first ep. and was still underwhelmed. Maybe more so now given my current age. Out of curiosity and given my knowledge about how I had always known about MMPR being based off a show in Japan I decided to research on Google and find out what show this was based on. After a minute or two I found out that MMPR was based off of a show called " Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger". I was like cool, let's see if I can find a sub of that show and make a comparison. I found a streaming site called Vimeo that had the first three eps. subbed. After seeing the original source material I was like WHAT THE FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU......
No comparison at all. Best of all no Bulk and Skull!!! After that I stumbled upon Gokaiger and the rest is well...history. After keeping up with Gokaiger and watching the full Shinkenger run I'm a fan. |
The first full Sentai season I watched was Goseiger. How I'm still a Sentai fan, nobody will ever know.
from the episodes that I watched, Goseiger wasn't THAT bad
Magi-Ranger. I saw the story, and just loved the family aspect of it. Been a fan ever since. Didn't get too much into, Go-Onger, though. What I saw of it, the story didn't appeal to me.
I use to watch clips on the internet back in 2000 when Timeranger was out. The first Super Sentai movie I seen was Gaoranger vs Super Sentai. Then I had some Gaoranger R2 DVDs but never finished the series. Dekaranger was the first series I've watched all the way through.
Dekaranger.
A Damn good place to start too! |
My first Sentai series was Shinkenger, and boy did it leave a good impression. That, along with Power Rangers RPM being my first Power Rangers since I was less than 10 years old and Kamen Rider W being my first Kamen Rider series, left an excellent impression on me about Tokusatsu.
Now I recommend any starters to Sentai to start with Shinkenger, or, nowadays, Gokaiger. I still think Shinkenger would at least give them some bearings before starting on the crossover extravaganza of Gokaiger. |
Not going to lie, it was Gokaiger, though I have sadly not continued it since Episode 6. Planning on continuing it though next month, that is, if I remember
WOW! I'd noticed a lot more Toku fans recently, I'd assumed they were just becoming more Vocal....guess thier just new (nothing wrong with that) First Sentai I ever saw was Megaranger, first watched in full was Hurricanger.
For me it was Shinkenger.
When I heard about RPM being the "last season of Power Rangers" a few years ago, I thought it was time I check out this "Sentai" thing I kept seeing on the boards, despite me having fallen out of the Power Rangers scene back when Dino Thunder wrapped up. Needless to say, I've been hooked ever since! My shelves had gone from a couple of Transformers and some Lego sets to a Kamen Rider/Super Sentai emporium of awesome... And then I cry knowing that was only about 2 1/5 years ago. |

I think mine was Gaoranger. It was at least the first one I saw in full. And it was good. GAORAO~

Just like the average Filipino, I grew up watching Choudenshi Bioman.
the first was Abaranger for me. While Dino Thunder was airing, for some reason I had the erg to find the japanese counterpart, Found a 2 volume boxset online, bought them and started watching and the rest was history :)

The first sentai I discovered was Boukenger mid-season and caught up on it on youtube back in late '06. Then i started watching Dekaranger along side it and finished all of Dekaranger before Boukenger ended.
