Figure Oh #181 Reveals Akibaranger Season 2 Costumes
 

Thanks to forum member DrillBit for pointing us to the cover of Figure Oh #181. This image, Courtesy of the Cyber Gundam Blog has a big reveal for Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2 and its' fans! According to the cover of the latest Figure Oh Magazine the Akibarangers will each be getting a slight costume makeover!

Gone are the trademark pigtails of the Akiba Yellow helmet, instead replaced by Buns. AKiba Blue has likewise lost her split pony tail and had it replaced by a bun top. And Akiba Red appears to be sporting a new power up armor made from none other than the New Z-Cune Aoi-Tan!

This issue of Figure Oh is also said to reveal S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Beast!

Wonder why Yellow and Blue are changing, at least Red is an upgrade... of sorts...

Wait, so akibablue won't be there, but the suit will?

That upgrade looks like a cross between a toga and a diaper. Perfect fit for Akibaranger, really.

I'm willing to bet Hate Saburo is behind these suit changes.

The look of the suit reflects the desire of the person inside (from season 1).
I guess the there is a change of desire involved.

I'm glad you said it because I was thinking it. I said in the speculation thread how "I wonder what the Akiba power-up suit will look like"? Yea.... I take it back. That looks aweful.

Season 2 = YAY!

Huh...Now whether to hold off on Figuarts AkibaYellow and Blue and wait for the inevitable S2 versions or not...

As for Red's new armor, it looks like it's supposed to be Aoi-tan clinging to his side. You can make out the arm across his chest and her leg crossing over onto his thigh. Plus in Red's close-up you can see her hand over his shoulder...If that's the case, then that's hilarious.

I don't like the changes to the girls very much.

I don't even want to imagine how that thing forms around him. I don't think you can air that on daytime television.

Akibaranger usually aired at 1 in the morning in Japan :lol

Ah. Then they're fine.

Although it is Japan man. Weirder things have been around there. For example, when I was in Tokyo, I went to the arcade, which was above the casino, which had anime-girl themed Slot Machines that would talk to players and were scantily dressed. Nice memory for a 14 year old to have before he left Japan :lol

*wipes a tear* I love you, Japan...

This means they'll release the team as SHFs again won't they? Oh god...

And more Red Rangers with weapon parts you'll never use if you never buy those Akiba Figuarts. Bandai.. crafty sumbitches!

So long as we get more SHF Red Rangers…I'm down with that!

I'll be down for literally any Akiba Figuarts that come out. Slightly or heavily remolded I'm game :D

I was going to make a sarcastic comment wishing you all well in buying 3 new Figuarts.

But it seems you all actually welcome it, even if the only change is a minor one to the hair. o_O

Well when you involve a show that I love and am totally dedicated to, and I already spent $400 on their car I think I can handle 3 more figuarts :p

Totally expected this. I'm down for 3 more Figuarts though :D

I don't like them at all. I think the thing that makes Akiba Yellow special is the ponytails. The buns aren't as cute, I won't buy season 2 Figuarts if the only change is the helmets. There would need to be awesome accessories, or other, more significant and interesting changes for me to buy them.

But I am looking forward to the show. Though I should probably get around to finishing season 1 one of these days.

It's possible that they'll release the new Akiba Red and then just helmets for the other two Akiba Rangers with Red.

Red getting a "super form" was pretty obvious, but I'm not too impressed by the girls. Giving them new hairstyles absolutely could have worked, but these are just a little bit too boring, especially if they expect us to buy the same figures again, just with slightly different head sculpts.

p.s: How to sell these figuarts? What if they pack in the unhelmeted heads.

Yeah, from what I can tell, it looks like the only changes to the girls' costumes are different helmets, and $40 is a tough sell for just new helmets that I don't like as much as the Season 1 helmets anyway. They're just generic buns now rather than being unique to each girl. It's kind of a boring and disappointing design choice, actually. I hope they pack the heads in with some other figure because I don't think another blue and yellow will sell well otherwise...

I was thinking pack in the new girl heads with the new Red figure. But that could actually work better for individual figure sales. They did show off the unhelmeted heads before, so we know they worked on them. Granted, Blue would need a new head since she's got a new actress.

Saw some scans from the magazine on tumblr that clear up a few things:

- Yellow's buns will have tassels on them, so they aren't just plain buns.
- Blue will still have a ponytail design for her helmet, just in a different style.

Red's power up armor is meant to be positioned as if they were making out... Or in some sort of intimate hug.

It's going to be defended to hell because it's "meant for mature audiences", but come on guys... Really??

So when is OOO going to do a meme with AkibaYellow as Princess Leia? Thats what I'm waiting on at this point.

Oh. Okay then. Since it's Sentai, Akibaranger, and from Japan, I'll just go along with it :lol

Well since Akibaranger focuses on otaku culture, Red's armor design fits the whole "Waifu" thing that stems from it.

Or that. With the ribbons it'd worked, and she has the thighs for it.

I'm not sure who that is but I'm pretty sure she needs an adult.
