I ..... why is Kouga not Garo?......the Movie isn't going to be on DVD by April is it.....

This show has an all new cast. The leading theory had been that the new Garo is Kouga and Kaoru's son, but the name doesn't seem to match either of theirs. Hmm...

And, no, the dvd won't be out then. The movie itself just opened in theaters last week.

I think the mantle has been passed on the Ryuga. Possibly between the movie and the show so there's a mystery of how Ryuga got the mantle and Zaruba. He is labeled "the outcast" so maybe it's believed he stole them. Regardless, I doubt Ryuga is Kouga's or Kaoru's son.

PS Gai is now the other Gai :lol

Junya Ikeda is Zen, not Gai.

I know that, but Takeru/Zen is a womanizer like the OTHER Sentai Gai :p

The story is set to be far in the future, according to those who came back from the pre-screening of the Garo movie.

As opposed to Kouga, Ryuga has the black sacred robe and the white sheath.
He doesn't belong to any of the watchdog groups. (Garo should be top of all knights. The only one who can equipped with the white sacred robe, and the red sheath. The red sheath gives the knight the power to order other knights.)
Ryuga also has special power to read other people's thoughts by touching objects.
Karuba has problem with its jaw, and Garo armor is tainted with black.

So there's also a snippet of the third season in the movie?

No. The cast of both Kouga Chronicle and new series were there talking about new projects after they have shown the movie.

man, I just hope that wait between theatrical release and DVD isn't the absurd 10+ months Red Requiem was

VERY excited for this. I love the new colourscheme for the Garo armour.

I'm going to get a lot of flack for this but I don't really like Garo. I've never liked Kouga and the series has also been far too dark. By 'dark' I mean I can't see anything, it's physically to dark for my monitors.

Maybe it's because I stopped caring about Garo after the first series was subbed by TV-Nihon. Maybe their subbing was just bad. The show has just never resonated with me.

The older TVN subs didn't have great video quality and Garo had a lot of night shots. The two didn't mix well. I'd say try Makai Senki with O-T/MCS's HD versions. The colors are a lot sharper, even when they do the (relatively rarer) night scenes. Rei also gets a lot more solo episodes if Kouga's not your thing.

Oh, and it anyone is interested, TV-Nihon has a subbed version of the trailer.

Yeah, but TVN did rerelease the show with DVD rips a year or so ago.

And it looked perfectly fine. Speaking of the original, what was the other sub group that did the original series? All I remember is it wasn't OT.

GomenRider. Aside from a better quality version of the first series they apparently fixed a lot of errors in the TV-N version, which I can't verify as I don't have either to compare anymore. Their blog probably covers it much like they did with Agito.

I'm going to give this a download and see what it's like. Excuse to watch Garo a third time? Maaaaaaybe. :lol

Okay, having downloaded them and checked them out I can definitely tell you that the video quality on the GomenRider subs is better than TVN's. Not by a lot compared to their newer dvd rips, but it is noticeable. The image is a bit sharper and the colors are a bit brighter. Hard to tell if the translation is significantly different, but within the first few minutes of episode 1 it's almost identical (which makes sense, given that GomenRider is a scrubber). I think I'll be swapping out my old subs for these. Kisama-tachi and all that.

Good to know, thanks for taking a look. I haven't gotten around to going nuts redownloading older series to watch since I have plenty of new things to tide me over, but I'm glad that when I get the urge for some classic Garo, and as a Garo fan it will happen, I have options.

I'm just so happy I won't have to deal with the drawn out relationship between Kouga and Kaoru anymore. It would make sense if this new guy is their son, as it would mean Kouga and Kaoru finally made it past having lunch together.

Anyway, it is a shame Nihon never subbed the first series using the DVDs. I own the DVDs for both the first season and the Beast of White Night and they put Nihon's video quality to shame.

Since you didn't bother to actually read the thread, because Switchblade DID mention that TV-N did resub the show using the DVDs, I screen-capped TV-N's Garo page where, AMAZINGLY, they have Garo DVD batches:

BTW, if Ryuuga is Kouga is Kouga's son, it would make the Hagane no Hoko (Hagane's roar) short story that was released in 2006 non-canon. The short story is set in the future and featured Kouga and Kaoru's son Raiga (雷牙). Or maybe he changed his name or something. I'm tempted in buying a used of copy of the mook carrying the short story in yahoo auction, but it cost around 50 dollars minus shipping.

I know what their files say, I have them, but they do not look anywhere close to the DVDs I own.

And I did not read anyone's post about fansubs, I was just making a comment because I am debating if I want to rewatch the previous seasons before this one.

First off, this is NOT HJU. And since you are new to this board, I suggest you don't start trouble.

Secondly, this is the first I have ever heard of this short story, but I highly doubt they are required to follow it someone's fanfic.

That's to be expected. The way TVN encodes their episodes has a negative effect on the video quality. The GomenRider subs are a little bit better in that regard.

this is off topic, But is GARO MAkai Senkai any
good?

It's good, but not even close to as good as the first season. Plus, it leaves off for a movie that won't be out on video for probably another 6 months.

Yeah, it's just about as good as the first series. The first series has a tighter story while the Makai Senkai has a bigger world. Just like the first series, Makai Senkai has some stand out episodes and a big finale.

It's Garo. Of course, it's good.

Just be sure to watch Beast of the Midnight Sun and Red Requiem beforehand. Makai Senkai has returning characters from both. Plus they're pretty decent films.

Also, Beast of the Midnight Sun was made soon after the original show while Red Requiem was made soon before Makai Senkai. There's a huge technological gap between them.
