Kyoryuger Writer Riku Sanjo Wants to Write Entire Series
 

Thanks to the ever informative DecaEnd a recent interview with the head writer for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger has shed some light on the series. Head Writer Riku Sanjo has expressed his desire to write the ENTIRETY of Kyoryuger alone. That's right folks Riku Sanjo, also known for his works on Kamen Riders W & Fourze, is the sole individual responsible for the brilliance of this show so far. At the time of this interview he'd already written 12 episodes of the show completely alone! And if it's up to him and the show continues it's current pace and ratings he just may get his wish.

How many tokusatsus can you think of that have only ever been written by a single person?

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him take a stab at Sentai again. He wrote the Jetman episode of Gokaiger and that was really good. He may be horribly burned out on Rider, but it might be interesting to see him try something different.

As to the OP's question - I can't think of a single time I've seen a show have only one writer. Not even in the Showa era.

I know Kobayashi has written an entire show by herself(it was either Shinkenger or OOO). I'm sure he can write one by himself as well.

Well this is a good thing. I have to respect the man for it because honestly, the problem at times is too many cooks in the kitchen.

Yeah but that was the Inoue of 10+ years ago. The Jetman episode of Gokaiger was a good comeback for him but he's lost all the brilliance he had from his time on Agito. I wouldn't hate to see him write for sentai again, I'd just be very very cautious.

Very good point, and the results can't lie. This show has been fantastically written and developed by Sanjo so far.

Decade I can't fault him on because he did what, 2 or 3 episodes? He made Hibiki far more interesting for me - and yes I know I'll get shit for that, but I have my reasons. The Next I will give you, I really loved the First though.

I don't think Kobayashi wrote all of Shinkenger, just more episodes than the average sentai head writer and probably more involved with the scripts for those episodes she didn't write.

But where are you getting this news about Kyoryuger's ratings? I haven't found anything about them anywhere.

AkibaRanger was excellent. Gokaiger was excellent too. Hibiki was decent until they brought in that bratty little **** and got rid of the kanji that came across the screen.

While im not familiar with the worst of his work, i can respect someone with vision and a drive to protect it. That said, lets hope the end product is a good vision.

I don't think ge lost his shit after Agito. Loved Faiz, Blade and Kabuto. Were they flawed? Of course, doesn't stop me from liking them.

She didn't. 7 episodes of Shinkenger was writtern by one of two other guys.

Interesting fact. Kobayashi writing almost all of Shinkenger must have been what made it so ridiculously boring :p

At least in this case we know Sanjo has a penchant for fun and consistency in his writing.

Toshiki Inoue only wrote 6 episodes of Blade and 16 of Kabuto (he's the creator of Drake and Sasword though). He was not the head writer of either. Shoji Yonemura was in charge of Kabuto and either Sho Aikawa or Shoji Imai was in charge of Blade (I believe they stated with Imai and ended with Aikawa). I can't find Faiz's writing credits, but I know Toshiki Inoue was in charge of that one.

She's only given credit because the Samurai scripts still resemble her scripts enough that she could sue Saban if they didn't credit him.

Sanjo is apparently my favorite Toku writer, who knew? I love Fourze and I'll defend Kyoryuger more than I ever did Goseiger. And now I know who to thank!

Kazuki Nakashima was the head writer of Fourze, though Sanjo wrote 18 episodes.

Judging from Kyoryuger he wrote the best ones!

Go check Fourze's wiki page. It lists writers for every episode of Kamen Rider from Blade onwards.

I'm sure he'll still have to sell toys :p


PS Toshiki Inoue wrote all of Kiva expect two. Make of that what you will.

I don't think we'll ever encounter something shoehorned in as terribly as the Wild Force Rider, though :p

Yeah, I still cannot believe the person who wrote B-Fighter Kabuto, TimeRanger, Ryuki, Sailor Moon (LA), is the same person who did Go-Buster. Not to mention that dreadful Claymore and Witch Blade anime.

Sanjo is talented and I see no real problem with what he wants to do, but you do bring up a valid point. As the Matrix Trilogy and Speed Racer proved in spades sometimes you just gotta dial it back and let other people add their thoughts in as well.

To be fair 48 to 50 episodes is a lot for just one person. I only hope that if his dream comes to pass he won't end up like Inoue did.

I was actually thinking of Batman Vs. Batman Returns (I personally hated Batman Returns. Burton went a little too far with that one), but the Matrix trilogy is a pretty good example though.

The first few episodes show promise, but I'm sometimes afraid when they get too much creative freedom they get a tad too crazy.

Sword Gai seemed to be doing fine on its own.
I think in time Amemiya may look into making a video spin off from it.
Sentai? Probably too many restrictions for him now.

Works for me, I can't argue with the two episodes we've seen so far.

Riku Sanjo... I knew the name rings a bell.

He wrote the Dragon Quest based manga Dai no Daibouken for 7 years, it's a good work. He kept all the DQ tropes and atmosphere and wrapped them into a shonen script. As a notable fact Dai, the main character, is the typical shonen hero, but the sidekick magician Poppu and the friend/rival Hyunkel are more complex and interesting.

How is it in Sanjo usual toku works ?
