Let's Watch Wednesdays Week 4 Gekiranger 10-12!
The Five Venoms are dead! Rio has obtained the Madoku! Mele is a total badass! This week kicks off with the Gekirangers going on a, forest delivery?
Geki Geki Geki Geki Geki Geki Geki! |
Echii!!!!
|
Master Elehung is a dirty, dirty old man. Geki Elephant Tohja is probably my favorite combination, though. That thing looks cool and is totally badass.
Also, Mele is still hot. |
Something I really love about the martial arts and combat based series is that their growth is so much more apparent. It's not just them getting bigger guns to show how stronger they've gotten.
Elehung is fun to watch, and makes me wish he could transform into the spirit ranger. Geki Elephant Touja is pretty awesome in both visuals and application, but not my favorite Touja combo (Either Rin or Wolf), but it's definitely my favorite elephant/mammoth based mech. |

While I like the Elephant Touja combo pretty well in show, the DX toys do not do it justice at all, but that can be said of all Gekiranger DX's. And the best elephant/mammoth combo is Gaoking Sword & Shield. |

And I know the DX toys aren't the best. Why do you think I still own none of them? :lol Anyway, I'm just not a big fan of Gao Elephant. It's not bad, but I'm not in love with it. Quote:
Anyway, yay, Rio! I love Rio. He has my favorite arc for any Sentai character ever. AND DAT FACE. http://i.imgur.com/hsr4Bmc.png |
Jungle Fury sucks in regards to this sequence of episodes. Okay, Master Phant isn't a perverted old guy (thank you Disney) but unlike "Erohung" he has little character beyond some "teach an old dog new tricks" moral and a stupid name. And the whole "There is Training in [insert activity or something here]" we just have dated Aesops. In Jungle Fury's finale, we see the Japanese Kensei costumes, and while they look weird to American viewers, they COULD have transitioned like Kruger did. Maybe they just have practical makeup to give them some animal look. But too little too late.
Also, I forget who said this, but somewhere on YouTube a reviewer refers to the Jungle Pride/Master Megazord with Elephant Power as the Elephant Pride/Master Megazord. Kudos to them! Too bad I forget who though. Quote:

These where fun episodes, mainly thanks to Elehung. Dirty old elephant. The GekiHammer is awesome, when we get Geki figuarts Ran had best come with it. I like GekiElephantTouja, it's nice and bulky and the GekiHammer translates across pretty well. Where these episodes really shine is the ongoing Rio Saga. Dude just ate his own despair to get stronger! He's shaping up to be an awesome villain, and I can't wait to see how he redeems himself later. |
Enter Erohan...I mean Elehung. I always enjoyed his funny loving style and his really impressive skills with the ball and chain. His training method is something I live by, even in the tough times you gotta keep positive. The ending skit with him chasing Ran and Natsume always makes me laugh. Ran getting to use the Geki Hammer was always my favorite part of the "training" arc because it was something new for her fighting style. The weapons Retsu and Jan eventually get feel more like logical extensions of the fighting style they've used so far. And another thing that shows Gekiranger isn't your typical Sentai is that it took 11 episodes to get an auxillary mecha. Rather impressive self control there.
On the other side of Gekiranger we have the start of Rio's journey. It was rather impressive of him to break that barrier through sheer force. And we the we have Kenma of the Sky, Kata join the show. Really quickly you see the difference in training styles between Kenma and Kensei. He almost nearly killed Rio in that first stunt, and almost did it with the trapping him in the nightmare. Thankfully, Rio outsmarted Kata and used his own despair to empower himself. We also see once again Mele's dedication to Rio as she doubts Kata's training methods. Keep that in mind for future episodes. The next part is a tiny nitpick. They picked the guy who voiced Master Asia in G Gundam to voice Muzankose. In a series about martial arts, I feel he should have been one of the Kenma, not a MOTW. Also dat Rio face :lol. |
You have no idea how hard it is to restrain from watching more now that Kata is revived and Rio's training has begun :lol

You can never go wrong with a pervy sensei and Elehung was no exception :D
Geki Elephant Touja looks so bad ass. When SRC GekiTouja comes out,I want them to somehow come out with an upgrade set(Shouldn't be that tough to switch out shoulder pads and put on a new head) I loved smiley Ran and her training session. Also worth noting is Ran thinks fart jokes are funny :lol And Rio,DAMN.He needs to be in Wizard teaching Gates to conquer their despair.I was worried that after he conquered his despair that Kata was gonna be killed off,but I'm glad he's sticking around.I also love the parallel that the Gekirangers get 3 new masters to learn from and so does Rio.Can't wait to see what the Bat Master is like. |
Just finished these episodes.
I'm still enjoying the show quite a bit. I don't dislike Jan, but he is kinda irritating at times. I like Ran, and I really like Rio and Mele, which seems to be a fairly common sentiment. For these particular episodes, I'm saddened by the deaths of the Five Venoms, I liked them. But we did get to see that Mele is really powerful, and I liked that she took on the Gekirangers as training to make sure she could protect Rio from snake-guy. I liked the Elohan episodes, though Ran should have kicked his ass for trying to molest her. Okay, so I didn't think much of the original mech, it's goofy, but not super terrible. The addition of Geki Elephant, though, is pretty bad. The way it splits in half and the legs sit on the shoulders? Crazy awkward from a mobility stand point - did you notice that he hit the elephant legs on his left shoulder every time he swung the chain over that shoulder? The ball and chain is a fun addition to their armament, but the combination looks bad. Really bad. I enjoy the show, I'd totally buy Figuarts of the Rio, Mele and the Gekiranges, including their non-suited up modes. But the Elephant Touja combo can go f--- off. Now, episode 12 was awesome. Rio appears to have improved several levels from his training with Kata, and though Jan learned a new skill, he didn't improve in strength. The Gekiranger are very much not a match for Rio. oh, and one last thing. I really like both the opening and closing themes. Need to rip them for my ipod. "My despair was delicious." |
Ugh, Master Elehung is one dirty pervert. I hope Ran gets the chance to punch him more in the future.
The Rio episode was amazing, indeed it was much, much better than its Jungle Fury counterpart, which was much tamer. Looking forward to see more development from his end. Quote:

I find myself amused that not many people are commenting on Kata's arrival. He's a pretty big player in the series. Though I suppose that'll change tomorrow when start seeing more of what he can do.
|
Oh crap, today is Tuesday, not Wednesday :lol
I accidentally jumped the gun and watched 13-15 because I was accidentally a day off xD But Kata is a major player, and his actions have significant changes throughout the series, but I dunno. I always found Kata to be rather bland. He's mean, he's rude, he's a jerk. I don't hate him, but I just don't like him. His design is nothing spectacular, his demeanor is as generic as all get out, and he's just dull. There's a reason why I never talk about the first two Kenma :p |
Double posting this for everyones benefit.
Keep an eye out for the Let's Watch Wednesdays thread to pop up in the afternoon. Starting this week we're doing something special with it. For anyone whose posted in the discussions up til now that's good, if you haven't then I suggest you start. Let's just say you'll want your name in the running for whats coming up ;) |
Oh? Now you've got me curious.
I can't wait to see what's in store. |
