Kamen Rider Dragon Knight
So I know Dragon Knight is a love it or hate show, most people tend to hate it, and I'm not gonna deny that there definitely was quite a few problems with it, but was I the only person who enjoyed the ride through?
|
Heck no! The ride was a little bumpy here and there, but it was loads better than Masked Rider and a fair share of Power Rangers series. I wish they'd done another season as well.
|
I think most people who hated it spent too much time comparing it to Ryuki. The show definitely had it's problems, none the least it's budget issues which limited what they were able to do, but I really enjoyed the series for what it was. It had a rough first few episodes, but I felt it improved very much as the series progressed. The ending could have been better, and would have been better had the money not run out, but I didn't find it inherently bad. It worked well enough in some regards.

I liked it.
But I had a hard time watching it and even then, I always had to have it as background noise rather than dedicating my attention to it. But aside from their Henshin call of "Kamen Rider", from what I did get to see, I enjoyed it. |
It was ok, could have used some better actors. I didn't like the fact that they switched Kit from Dragon Knight to Onyx. Defeats the purpose with him being the star of the show.
|
Let's get one thing out of the way though. Like or hate other aspects of the series, Xaviax made it work. I don't mean the ending, because... I don't need to explain how much that ruined his image. I mean, the man behind (in front of?) that abomination, William O'Leary. You have no idea how disappointed I am that we'll probably never have a toy of Xaviax.
|
I don't even remember the ending, I just remember not like it lol!

The first empty promise was actually a hint at a Xaviax in the Dragon Knight line! Easy to guess how that turned out... I'd kill for the Figma to have been released. It's the one thing Max Factory could do that Bandai couldn't really one-up. SHF Kanzaki just doesn't have the same ring to it. :lol

I really enjoyed Dragon Knight while it was airing. I think what it hurt it was the fact that towards the end, the storyline just became meh ... one of those series where they build up to this big thing that never really happens, and storylines are almost entirely forgotten.
Kamen Rider Siren was pretty awesome though. (...it was Siren, right?) |
^Yep it was Siren.
I've only seen the first episode but it did catch my interest, and once I finish Ryuki I may give the entire show a watch, if nothing else than to test my ability to recognize the toku footage. |
Oh I remember what I disliked about Dragon Knight.
No dialogue during fights. Zero. None. Not even a "HIYA!" or anything. Really killed the battle scenes. |

Both.
The blonde was yum, and the chick that took over for a few episodes was also yum. |
I really enjoyed this series... It had some annoying characters and dumbed down the plot a lot, but the added fight scenes were really top notch and I liked that they kept the originals surprise of having the main hero get offed before the end of the show (although they messed that up by bringing him back)....

im watching dragon knight right now. i distance it from regular japanese kamen rider and see it as its own thing. and yea its alright. Its not by any strech amazing, but its nice to see the ryuki suits in action again.
|
My only real problem with it was the venting thing. Having them able to just be brought back :/
|
I'm watching the series on the 4Kids TV website currently and I am enjoying it. I'm about 14-15 episodes in and as an adaption of a Kamen Rider series I am digging it. I never saw that much of Ryuki so I can take it as it's own thing and roll with it. The acting's not great but the suits and fights look very nice. So yeah, I'm a fan of KRDK as well.

Finally decided to catch up & finish this series.
Overall I really like it but it has flaws. Most of the cast is bland & uninteresting. Sometimes its hard to distinguish Riders from each other when they're unmorphed. |
I watched it, but I forgot all of it. Absolutely all of it.
|
The way things ended seem rushed IMO, but I still like for trying to do things different from Power Rangers and Saban's Masked Rider. Plus, they had Mark Dacascos.

The day Dragon Knight ended it's TV airing (they didn't even finishing airing it!) was the last time I watch Saturday Morning Cartoons. TMNT...gone (thankfully ending on a high note). Power Rangers...horrid MMPR re-edits. What's left? CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES! Kind of ironic actually given the Riders tools in the show.
Anyways, I love this show. It's better than about 50% of the PR series (though RPM, which aired right after DK, was great too) and one of only 2 Kamen Rider series I've cared enough to finish (the other being Kabuto). I think someone's already said what makes this show so good: The villian. Especially the early episodes. Some say this show is about 2 heroes trying to save 2 worlds againist an evil villian. No, this show is about manipulation and the hero learning the truth of it all (It's also about Wing Knight being a badass). Xaviax manipulates most of the Riders to fight for him at some point and it works so well. Who knew Tim Taylor's brother could be so...sinister. Near the end it does kind of fall flat, but you can only manipulated people so much better you have to move pass it. Thankfully it's only in the latter episodes. Also of note, Wing Knight is my favorite Kamen Rider. Somehow I have 4 figures of him and still don't have the SH Figuart. PS I tried to watch Ryuki a few months ago and could barely make it through the first episode. |

Also, already own him. :D http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/...PowerGlove.jpg Still want the SHF though, but after finding the Figma for $12, I decided I didn't need to pick which to get and own them both. |
I think people aren't giving the Dragon Knight Figmas enough credit...they aren't perfect, but they are far from being bad toys.

I'm torn between getting the Figma or the Figuart for Thrust/Gai. He's my favorite design of the Riders from this series and both toys look amazing.

The Figma's no doubt going to be cheeper, since anyone who isn't Ryuki, Knight, Ouja, Zolda, and Femme can be found for pretty cheap. |

Souchaku Henshins feature a plastic frame with some diecast armor; the articulation isn't as good and they may not have as many accessories as the Figmas do. |

That or Black Rx if that Preorder for the FA one from BBTS ever comes in. |
Not my photo, but this should give you a sense of scale.
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1107/125165bas.jpg They're a foot smaller then SHF< but they're not so small that they look too terribly out of scale. They're not bad figures like I said, they look very nice on display and I like that Max Factory tried to make it look as close to the stunt suit as possible. on my Siren Figma, I can't even tell that it's a toy if I'm looking at it from far away. |
