So how is Fourze?
I been seeing a lot of it recently. Ive started watching W right now and loving that but I was curious, should I start watching forze?
|
So... first of all.
*Fourze. Secondly. It is a decent show, that has a lot of filler. If you can get over a lighthearted story I'd say go for it. |
Quote:
The story is about an evil space alien thing that is using "switches" to allow people with chips on their shoulders (mostly kids) to transform in to monsters to extract their revenge/seek vengeance/whatever. In doing so, they have the possibility to evolve from a Zodiart (monster) to a Horoscope (one of the 12 signs). It's believed whomever is behind this killed the father of the main tech guy in the group, who would be Fourze if not for health issues. The story progresses as Horoscopes begin to evolve from Zodiarts while many of the kids begin to become friends with Gentarou and even join and form the "Kamen Rider Club". The stories go through their relationships with each other as well as their own backstories, and how Gentarou has brought them all together. Kamen Rider Meteor, the second Kamen Rider of Fourze (and most likely the only other) is another transfer student who was given his power by a mysterious guy in space with a helmet on. He must seek permission to transform and is looking for the Aries Horoscope ... and infilitrates the Kamen Rider Club in order to learn their secrets and hopefully get closer to Aries. His identity must remain secret or he will lose the right to his powers ... something that has become more and more difficult with each episode. You have to sit through the 10's in this series and it's not easy to do, but if you can, it's worth it in the 20's with a LOT of payoff to building storylines. |
That's what i did!
I got into Kamen rider on W(Double), and because Fourze was the newest I watched a Fourze episode bewteen W's. But why are you asking "should i watch it"? Nothing stops people from watch shows and Fourze doesn't spoil any Ws plots. Are you wondering if Fourze has the same feel/mode/story-tones as W? |
Nice to see another Kamen Rider W fan here. :) Yes, I think you should definitely check out Fourze. Alot of people had skepticism initially due to the design of the suit, which I admit I was as well, but the story, the characters, and the action scenes quickly won me over. You should watch the first few eps and see how you like it, then go from there.

lol you must not realize how many people here are Double fans :p

Still need to watch it myself :o |
Cyclone! Trigger! FTW! Thanks for the input guys. ill take a look at it after I finsh W. Another question. What sould i watch first den-o, OOO's or forze?
|
Depends. Which interests you more? Time travel, animals, or space?
I've really been enjoying Den-O, it's pretty fun, a bit goofy, but it also has some pretty serious elements to it. OOO was also fun, kinda goofy to start out, but getting more serious as it went on, and the story definitely got betters. Fourze, I'm not caught up on, but it's also fun. I'd say they're pretty comparable, in my opinion. I find Eiji (OOO) and Gentaro (Fourze) to be better main characters than Ryuotaro (Den-O), although every once in a while he really impresses me. Den-O has the better supporting cast, in my opinion, I really like them Imagin, Hana, Naomi, Owner, and Yuuto. I also really liked Ankh in OOO, but didn't particularly feel one way or the other for any other supporting characters, except maybe Satonaka and Kougami. The supporting cast on Fourze I'm neither hate nor love yet, but I like them okay. As for the villains, I thought the Greeed were fine, great designs, but off and on again as far as their threat level, at least until Maki. The Horoscopes are really interesting me, so far. And I'm only just getting to where there is a main villain on Den-O, and there's only 9 episodes left. The Imagin of the week are usually visually interesting, but the focus up to now has been more on each individual story arc, rather than an overarching goal. |

Fourze is much more light-hearted by comparison, and with the Astro Switches and various States the suits in Fourze aren't pale by comparison next to OOO. I do think the second Rider Meteor is better than Birth, but imo Birth just wasn't utilized as well as Meteor has been. I can go on and on about the strength & weakness of each series, but I don't want to bore you. Personally, I think you can watch Fourze first, then after you caught up you can watch OOO between episodes of Fourze. I do want to warn you though, that OOO does get a bit slow in the middle (not surprisingly, both OOO and Shinkenger were written by the same writer, Kobayashi), but it has a fantastic finish that is imo even better than W's, although I like KR W the best. |
MC wise, I think Eiji is the weakest of the bunch. Gentaro is an airhead and annoying and Ryotaro is a wimp, but Eiji was just there. He was bland and so hell bent on helping everyone that you never got to know anything about him.
I would like to judge things on a series-by-series basis, but it would be unfair to Fourze right now because it's not over and because endings have proven to entirely change my opinion on a series (Double's piss poor ending still pisses me off, for example :p ) |

However, OOO ends on an extremely high note, and like you said W/Double has a rather poor ending, and this is the part where OOO definitely best W by comparison. |
Yeah. Eiji is easily outshined by the likes of Date, Ankh, Kougami, hell, even Gotou at times.
But OOO's ending was great. I don't want to spoil it, but I loved OOO's ending. Double's ending makes the extremely emotional episodes before it feel like a joke... |
See, and I remember the extremely emotional episodes, and don't really remember what happened in the very last episode. But I was still riding the emotional previous episode, so I think Double's ending was fantastic.

Go for it! Watch Fourze! Although, I must warn you: once you start with the bug-men, you never stop.

Basically, with everything from the Museum, Ryuu and Isaka, etc, the ending was far too squeaky clean and perfect. With how status quo was restored so perfectly that it felt as if it could've been passed off as a mid-season 2 parter. |

Okay, I remember THAT, I don't remember anything besides that. Did anything else happen? Because, despite the quickness with which that occurred, I really liked it. I think in large part because I latched on to Shotaro, the entire series, to me, is his story more than anyone else. All the stuff with Philip discovering who he was, while interesting, I saw it in light of it's effect on, and what it meant to/for Shotaro.
The same with the ending. Maybe, from a storytelling perspective, it was weak in comparison to the previous episode, but for me, it was all about how it related to Shotaro. Man, this discussion really makes me want to watch Double again. |
Ok, I started fourze ep 2 now. Its ok so far but I dont know if it gets any better. Any thoughts?

But if you don't want to stick with it, don't. |

What do you mean by that? Also i have a fondness for the yellow mech thing. i cant wait to see what else it can do. Also do they explain the astro switches more? Also for some reason I really love phillip from w for some reason. A guy with a troubled past, week by human standards but is irreplaceable in the show because of his knowledge. Mabey that's why. man i still need to finish Go-onger, Shinkenger and W. Gah, WHY MUST FINALS BE ALL IN ONE WEEK! and I have Go-Busters 02-03 candy toys coming tomorrow! Gah! NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR IT ALL! |

i found myself drawing him in the it's space time ( or space is awesome if you watch TV nihon..which is he actually saying? ) pose with my nieces sidewalk chalk. My older sister thought it was a Power Ranger and i explained it as The Breakfast Club Meets Power Rangers. I fell in the love in an earlier episode when he jumped over a railing at a bowling alley and faceplanted. Heroic indeed...if the majority of Riders are this way i think im hooked for life.

Fourze is actually surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting it to be anything fantastic in the beginning, but I daresay if the momentum keeps up it may be one of the best Toku shows I've watched.
You know a show is great when even the filler gets you glued to the seat (at least for me). Goofy or quirky as it may be sometimes, I've yet to be genuinely bored with Fourze, and that's saying something. Amanogawa High is a likable school with tons of interesting characters. |
It gets better after the club member roster is complete as we enter Meteor
|
It's hard to believe this show started out as a light-hearted high school sci-fi comedy. It's gotten really good and I'm kinda giddy waiting for the next episode to come. Definitely one of the strongest Kamen Rider shows.
|
The show has taken a much darker and edgy feel. Loving it.
|
The darker it gets the better it gets. After Virgos' death last week I really have no idea where things are going. It's obvious that Sagitarius left Fourze and Meteor alive to help him find the final switches and that he could pretty much annihilate them any time that he wants :lol

Fourze is getting so good.
Every week has me completely giddy for next week's episode! :D |
I'm looking forward to seeing the last two Horoscopes. One may be Yuki and the other we have next to no info about! Plus Sagittarius is one powerful dude!
|
This show was an episodic afterschool cartoon more or less. Until it's final few episodes. And now we actually have so good plot rolling. And I don't think it's lose it's lightheartedness at all. It's still got prat-fall and silly jokes.
But if i wasn't watching this as it came out. I don't think i would have watched it. |
Goodness what an amazing turn this show has taken. Too many wham episodes, week after week. It truly is a fascinating show of epic proportions. If they keep up the momentum, it will be one of my favorite Toku shows ever.
