Let's Watch Wednesdays Week 8 Gekiranger The Movie!
Jan, Retsu, Ran, Rio, Mele, and various other fighters from across the world have been gathered for a secret martial arts tournament to decide who the strongest warriors are. Hong Kong is the backdrop and the mysterious Yang controls the tournament. What is Mechkung Fu? Goetsu Doushuu is the key to victory!
Let's Watch Gekiranger The Movie, Nei-Nei! Hou-Hou! Hong Kong Decisive Battle! |
I actually decided to skip the movie and just focus on the show.
...which I have really fallen behind on. I haven't watched an episode in over a week. I really need to get back to it before Garo and Akibaranger come back and suck up even more of my viewing time. Also, Mele is hot. |

I was feeling bad because I hadn't watched 22-24 yet but looks like I get the week off :lol. I watched this during the downtime between LWW Jetman and Gekiranger, so let's see if I can remember my thoughts.
This movie is kinda like Street Fighter the movie. A bunch of different fighters from different places rounded up and duke it out. The guest star of the movie(can't recall her name offhand...) was a good character. Not as strong as the main characters, but can still hold her own. I liked how the Mechkung-Fu uses styles of predators that wait for their prey. Worked rather well with the plot and how they fought. Not much else to say besides GekiRinTouja is freaking badass. Overall a decent summer movie for Sentai, there have been worse like Shikenger and Gokaiger but outdone by Go-Ongers and Go-Busters IMO. |
Oh crap, we were watching the movie?
I watched the episodes today :lol Man, I was geared up to discuss those, too xD |

Anyway, do you ever imagine what the outcome of that martial arts competition in the beginning would have been like if the extra fighters won? Like the Luchador and the Capoeira guy? Speaking of which how did they ALL know that Miranda said the winner recieved a fabulous prize and great honor? |

The movie overall was cool.I didn't expect that much since it's an extended episode length feature.Fighting was cool and GekiRinTouja has dethroned GekiElephantTouja as my favorite combination. Mele stood out a lot in this, she seemed to be acting a lot more cutesy with Rio in this which I loved. When Rio was the last one standing in the dining room and tosses his fur cape onto a fallen Mele, total bad ass. Nice little break after the awesome that was last week's arc. Can't wait to get to GekiViolet's debut and see what he's like. |

As for the Vs movies in general,I kinda like to have seen both series completely before I watch their Vs movie.Which is why it'll probably be a while until I see the Go-Onger Vs movie.Maybe by the time Gekiranger is done with,it'll give me a reason to bear through Go-Onger just to see Gekirangers one last time. |
I liked it, it moved along pretty choppily... but not too fast. Would have been nice if Jan's little love interest got more development but it was no biggy. GekiRinTouja is awesome. I wish I could find it at a decent price even the Minipla seems to go for silly amounts =/
But yeah, very fun movie, some dodgey cgi at times but when thats the biggest complaint I have, it can't be bad =) |

The movie itself was enjoyable and fit the pace of the series. Unlike nearly every other Sentai summer film, this one was pretty good. But nearly anything is better than the Shinkenger and Gokaiger summer films :lol |
Gokaiger? Seriously? I found that one to be the worst of the bunch xD
Then again, I've only seen Geki's, Gosei's, and Gokai's movies, so I really don't have much of an opinion for them. |
Okay, finally watched it.
I really enjoyed this movie. The plot seems just like the crappy DoA movie's plot, but with less focus on showing women in bikinis like it's the 1980's and the internet isn't a thing, so it's a million times better, despite still being cliche. I didn't enjoy the forced reason for Rio to join the Gekirangers, but I'll take any excuse to have GekiRinTouja on screen, so I'm not really complaining :lol. I liked Jan's love interest, Lao, and I enjoyed the villain. They were kind of shallow, but the brief snippets of character was fine. Overall, fast paced kung fu action in 30 minutes, instead of long, drawn out melodrama with 2 fight scenes in 2 hours. |
I'm two weeks late, but I only managed to find time and the mood to watch it now. I couldn't skip this one! The debut of GekiRinTouja is something I've been waiting for a long time for. After all, it is the pride of my DX collection. :D
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1637/gekirintouja.jpg The movie itself was definitely above average compared to the usual Super Sentai 35-minute movie (such as Shinkenger) with significant mecha that for once, didn't feel like it was invented for the movie. I did like the Hong Kong setting a lot (as well as the little bits of Cantonese thrown in) and the fighting actually feels more traditionally wuxia than usual. Overall it was a fun watch. |
GekiRinTouja's toy looks pretty neat. I kind of want one now :lol
