The Lego Thread
Figured I'd get one of these started for any fans of Lego to share in discussion, share photos, creations, and find inspiration.
Lets discuss and see picks of some bricks! |
Lego sure is getting interesting this year with the double whammy dream licenses of Lego Superheroes and the Hobbit, more great Star Wars stuff and awesome and imaginative non-licensed sets.
Has anyone seen the new Spring sets in stores yet? I was hoping to find some Lego Superheroes sets. |

I absolutely love Legos, but I rarely buy them anymore. I usually get maybe one kit a year unless there's something that really catches my eye.
In fact, I actually got one yesterday: the Lex Luthor battle armor with Superman and Wonder Woman. I got it mainly for the minifigs, but I will be damned if it hasn't turned out to be one of the most fun kits I've ever assembled. This thing is crazy poseable and a whole lot of fun to mess around with. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0060.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0061.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0062.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0059.jpg I have a family member who's a big Harry Potter fan, too, so I've bought her a few kits in the last couple years, mostly just the small things so she can get a wide range of characters. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0063.jpg And occasionally I get to borrow them if I ask nicely. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/DSCN0065.jpg |

Since it's not out yet, I'll probably look for the Superman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor set. That one's a bargain too, thanks for the photos Switchblade! |
Just got in my first big boy Lego set. I always eye these things in the store, in the catalog, online, but never pull the trigger due to just how pricey they are. And then there is plenty of regret when it disappears and the price has tripled on ebay. I've done some studying and research and decided on this one:
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q.../firehouse.jpg Although I REALLY wanted the Maersk Ship (already gone) and the Maersk Train (still around), I decided on this entry in the modular series. I have long missed out on the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, and those prices are ridiculous on eBay. I found out that Lego puts out one new entry in the modular series each year. And eventually the oldest one disappears for good and you are left to the secondary market to get them. Well the Fire House is the oldest right now, so I decided to go ahead and drop the coin and get it before I can't anymore. The Maersk Train will be next, followed by the Grand Emporium. It feels real good to add this one to my collection. Now I just need to put together and appropriate work bench to work on Lego builds, and other geek miscellany (taking photos, doing dios, custom work, repairs, etc). |
Sweet, hope to see photos soon! My friend is a fan of the modular series, so he got the emporium and another set (not sure, since I don't follow these "big boy" sets). Not sure if he has gotten this or not, but they're very worth it!

But I'm really only into Lego for the Superheroes sets, so I'm trying to keep the leash tight on this part of the hobby. Did manage to get everything that's available including Joker's Funhouse (Lego Shop exclusive I believe). I missed building this stuff. I've actually gotten my Daughter into Lego as well, got her some Lego City sets, and some blindbag minifigs for Christmas. It's nice to have something fun I can share with her that's not flippin pink. |

First Marvel listings and descriptions. I'm pumped! |
Looking really nice! I'm really glad that one of them is a Doc Ock set, it's rather nostalgic to the old Lego Spider-man sets. Also, I'm really looking forward to the Captain America set, sounds like it will be cheap and AWESOME.
|
I don't know how much more awesome the X-Men set could be than what we know from the description.

Lego unveiled the LotR minifigs at the UK Toy Fair today:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...08-500x357.jpg I have been wanting these without really knowing it since I was in third grade. The thing that sucks is that I know these will be spread across at least three kits, most of which will be over $50. :( |
Thanks for the photos, Switchblade! It's a shame we'll have to buy most of the sets, but from what I read from the reports from Toyfair UK, the sets are very well designed! Perhaps it's not too bad to buy most of them. :D
Anyhow, from Brickset, here's a list of all the first wave sets, as revealed: 9469, Gandalf Arrives: 2 minifigs: Gandalf and Frodo, Gandalf on horse and cart with fireworks and snake in the back. I think the price was £9.99. 9470, Shelob Attacks: 3 minifigs: Frodo, Samwise and Gollom! Gollum looked great, hunched over with movable arms, a bit like skeleton arms but different. Shelob the spider looks fantastic and scary! 9471, Uruk-Hai Army: 6 minifigs: Eomer, Rohan soldier and 4 Urak-Hai. The set consists of a small section of wall, a horse with moving legs and a small siege machine. The wall can be joined to the Helms Deep castle, apparently, so this will make a great battle pack to extend the castle and build your armies. 9472, Attack on Weathertop: 5 minifigs: Frodo, Merry, Aragorn and two Ringwaiths on horseback. The set builds a small section of Weathertop with spiral staircase and ruins at the top. 9473, The Mines of Moria: 7 minifigs: Pippin, Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, a cave troll and two Moria orcs. The set builds a selection of sub-assemblies for mine walls, doors, pedestals etc. 9474, The Battle of Helm's Deep: 8 minifigs: Gimli, King Theoden, Haldir, Aragorn and 4 Urak-Hai warriors. The castle itself is fairly substantial, complete with the 'side door' used to gain entry 9476, The Orc Forge: 5 orcs with a forge, various metalworking tools and weapons. All descriptions are directly lifted from Brickset. Thus, it seems that the sets necessary to complete the Fellowship are: -9469, Gandalf Arrives - For Gandalf and Frodo -9470, Shelob Attacks - For Sam (with bonus Gollum!) -9472, Attack on Weathertop - For Aragorn and Merry (and Ringwraiths!) -9473, The Mines of Moria - For Pippin, Legolas, Gimli and Boromir 4 sets in total, I guess I better start saving cash! |
I was really hoping that the "Gandalf Arrives" set would include at least the facade for Bag End. Would have loved to see a Lego Bag End...maybe there will be some sort of Hobbiton abode in the future (I hope).

Wow, creepy, good creepy though, if there is such a thing
|
I will be PISSED if we don't get a Danger Room...let alone the X-Mansion WITH modular expandable danger room!
Also eager for Marvel Heroes Wolverine, Deadpool, and more! Come on you KNOW they will make those 2! A huge ass Sentinel would be great too... WAIT A construction set Sentinel FACTORY with Master Mold would be beast too! |
