Kikaider Revival Project Announced!
 

The end credits of Super Hero Taisen Z would reveal some surprising news: Shotaro Ishinomori’s Kikaider will be making a come back with a new revival project in the works.

However, at the time of this posting it is currently unknown whether or not this project will be another anime adaption or live action. We'll bring more news on this project as it becomes available.

This is awesome, but I'm surprised Taisen Z announced a Kikaider project rather than more Metal Heroes goodness.

I'd put money on it that it's gonna happen next Taisen. :lol

Remember sentai goranger was inspired and or adapted from his cyborg 009 like kamen rider was from skullman so it all make sense

It's to much to hope it's an adult remake that's more like the anime, isn't it?



I can at least hope for a suit update. That thing has not aged well, but it's not a bad design either. The suit just needs to be more robotic instead of whatever they used before spandex.

I would love to see where this goes. Especially after watching the anime version of it too (both). My hopes are high for Kikaider, please don't shoot it down.

Sadly I am not an expert on obscure toku heroes so I have no clue who this guy is.

One of Shotaro Ishinomori's many manga-turned-tokusatsu creations of the 70s'. He appeared in Let's Go Kamen Rider with fellow Ishinomori creations such as the other Kikaider, Inazuman, and Zubat.

You know, if they can get Keita Amemiya to at least do the suit designs I'd be pretty pumped for this. I loved the look he gave Hakaider in that movie.

So much yes. I love Kikaider and would love to see a modern take on it.

I got the original actor's autograph and volume 1 of the manga

I'll be honest: I know nothing about Kikaider, or any of these old Toku Shows that Toei has been reviving through Sentai x Kamen Rider movies and such. All I know of Metal Heroes comes from Big Bad Beetleborgs. That being said, I am happy they are reviving these old shows. And giving each one new life. I appreciate a company that doesn't forget it's past, and doesn't just throw away old shows to be forgotten forever. Like so many others.

I am more excited because we'll get a new Hakaider design out of this...

In Japan and most Gen X'ers from Hawaii like me. He is big. Obscure no. The two anime mini series from was shown on Cartoon Network a few years ago. It was darker and more faithful to the manga than the TV show.

As a kid he was my first experience on what a anti-hero is. I thought he was the coolest.

plus now I am not sure which I would want more...a Figuart or an SIC

They've done multiple SIC Hakaiders in various color schemes and with or without the bike. But a nice modern update would be cool. A Figuart would be amazing for Kikaider and Hakaider too. Though I won't just settle for Jiro & Hakaider. I need Ichiro and Rei too. Give me a Space Sheriff like trio of Kikaiders damn it!

If anyone is interested, here is the movie trailer from the 70s TV show. This brings back good memories growing up in Hawaii. A neighbor had a library of recorded VHS tapes of shows that aired Toku shows. Through this my first exposure to Kamen Rider was V3 and Gorenger for Super Sentai.

I remember learning about Kikaider back in the old Kaiju Review fanzine in the 90s. When the anime came on Cartoon Network, I floored all my anime otaku friends by telling them it was a tokusatsu several decades earlier. :lol

A modern tokusatsu Kikaider show would be a real blast -- the scenario in a lot of ways reminisicent of the old school Kamen Riders (with the hero being the same sort of creation as his foes), and there is a lot of room for both action and character in the story of an android like Kikaider.

Plus, to echo others: Hakaider! Woo woo woo! You Know It!
