Is goseiger really that bad?
 

I haven't seen much of Goseiger myself, but from what I've seen of the Goseigers in team up movies the team seems a little bland(Then again, this could be due to bad acting). I hear people say how it's the worst Sentai ever, but is it really that bad of a show?

I rather like the suit designs myself, and I loved some of the mecha designs

to me the acting is terrible, none of the characters are appealing at all, the gimmick is terrible and most of the designs are just bad. they also seem extremely weak without theyre Tensouders and Datas is the most annoying thing in the world. not to mention Alata is not a very good red in looks or otherwise. the show is also extremely campy, every single attack is called out loud and it gets annoying

I dropped the show at around the episode 15 mark I just couldnt take its crappyness anymore. so yes, to me it is that bad

For me its main weakness was the main team - the actors weren't great and none of them were particularly interesting, and this extends to the side character protagonists too. The gimmick was pretty meh but I don't think it was downright awful.

On the upside, the villain is my favourite out of all the Sentai series I've seen, and I love the aesthetic of both the mecha and the suits.

I'd class Goseiger as more disappointing than downright awful. The team fare better in both team up movies, but being sandwiched between two great shows does them no favours really.

The writing is paper-thin and the characters are flat; none of the Goseigers have any major memorable characteristics at the start of the show and they do not develop any sort of character growth as it goes on.

It IS that bad.

While I only made it 6 eps in to Goseiger before quitting.
The entire team cast was godawful annoying, Alata being the front runner & from what I've heard from others. I may never go back & check it out.

Goseiger isn't a great sentai, but it is fun. I also like Alata. He is the first red that is like.. well like him. He is quiet, but he has proven he can lead and fight when needed.

It's not, but everyone has their own tastes.
As someone who didn't overly like Shikenger (i'm not a fan of Kobyashi's writing and i didn't really like the actors) Gosei was a change of pace.

Really, it's one of those Love it or Hate it Sentai's.

For me the weakness isn't really a weakness. It's just a poorly timed series. If it had come out before Shinkenger it would have been fine because people wouldn't compare it to that. It has the unfortunate problem of being sandwiched between 2 mostly exceptional series. I say mostly because I don't enjoy Shinkenger nearly as much as I do Goseiger. I actually think Goseiger is much more fun than Shinkenger. However there's still the problem that Gokaiger following it is incredibly awesome. So by comparison most people hate Goseiger since it's so unfortunately placed.

while i really wasn't a fan of the show, i DID like more of it than i disliked. warning, there will be spoilers for those who haven't finished the series and plan on doing so.

Brajil/Bladeran (however you spell the names) was pretty cool, though it was kinda stupid that he was able to switch from team to team (yes they explained it as him using CamoMirage, but it was still stupid). i liked him especially near the end when he revealed himself as a fallen angel. it kinda gave him a level of tragedy that i dug

GoseiKnight was simply the most competent character in the show. he knew what he was doing, distanced himself from the Goseigers when he first showed up (good idea on his part) and was just simply badass throughout the series. and the fact that he was a Header kinda made him even cooler. I'm pretty sure there's a figuart of him coming soon and i plan on getting it for my love of the character (i'll think long and hard about whether i want any of the Goseigers after that)

Designs of the suits were pretty cool. they looked really classy and elegant. i wouldn't say they were "angelic", but still cool. even their Super Goseiger armour was cool and gave me a Lights of Orion vibe (PR Lost Galaxy for those who didn't know what i meant. the weapons are a different story...

Designs of the Mecha would have sold me a lot more... if they weren't supposed to be used by ANGELS!!! i mean come on... a SNAKE!?!? that's gotta be the worst choice for a heavenly animal (read the bible a little bit, idiot writers!!!). Any who, the mechs WERE cool, my favourite being Gosei Grand/Ground, due to it belonging to GoseiKnight and him becoming the robot's head. I'd say the mech a were the biggest reason i kept on with this show, because i wanted to see what candy toys i needed to buy (yep, you read right)

The Goseigers, as everyone has mentioned, were flat as hell!! everyone was just boring and annoying and i couldn't really get into liking them. Alata is the worst red ranger ever, being a horrible leader and not being very assertive. i had forgotten that 199 Heroes was a team-up movie and i was kinda pissed off when they showed up.

ANGELS?!?! really? that's the best thing you can come up with? these guys were the lamest angels ever!! UGH!!! the angel angle was completely unnecessary and could have been changed to anything better. maybe if they were decedents of ancient tribes, that would have made more sense for everything and would have explained the tribes thing a bit better (never heard of angels who specialized in rocks and water... you'd figure things with WINGS (again... y were they Angels if they barely used their wings) would all be experts on AIR.

the Villains weren't bad per say... i liked them all to a point, but why did we have to have all 3 groups in this show?? and why do friggin' ANGELS have to worry about Space Insects, Mutated Eco Villains from Captain Planet and Cyborgs (i must have missed those parts of the bible)?!?! shouldn't the Angels be fighting... i dunno... DEVILS???? Demons??? nope... lame

all in all, Goseiger was... meh, bordering on horrible. It may have been better if they changed some parts of the main plot and they didn't put it in between Shinkenger and Gokaiger, 2 amazing Sentai shows

I didnt think it was that bad. Its not that good but its not that bad either.
I just despise the Yuuma Beasts. That finishing move... Seriously?

But that cheerleading episode with Monue was my favorite episode by far :P. Actually, Moune as a character was my favorite out of the Goseigers with Argi in a close second with GoseiKnight.

I made it as far as Alata coloring himself a new power up.

this series got me out of sentai for almost a year, but thanks to Gokaiger I got back into it

This, this, SO MUCH THIS! The only problem with Goseiger is that it came out between Shinkenger and Gokaiger. I can admit the show isn't perfect, but it has its moments. And Goseiger gave us one of the best Sixth Rangers and Big Bads in years with GoseiKnight and Brajira.

In short, the only thing that makes Goseiger "bad" is that it is an average show that came out between two really good ones.

Goseiger's the worst. I'm friends with Gosei Yellow on fb and she's a great girl. But the show is still terrible.

I do believe this is partially true, and while it is quite bland at times, I'm not sure it'd feel so...disappointing in comparison if it wasn't sandwiched between Shinken and Gokai.

Honestly, I haven't finished Goseiger yet, but I kinda understand people's feelings toward it even 15 or so episodes in. I like the Goseigers in their team ups a lot, and there have actually been some good/decent episodes in what I've got through already. I actually think Alata is a great Red from what I've seen.

I really really want to like this series, as I LOVE all of the designs and while the gimmick isn't the...best, I love those designs way too much to say I hate them. I think the only one I dislike is kinda the Super Goseigers but that's more of a "meh" than hating it.

It's definitely not the best, but well, it has to appeal to someone, so it might for you, might not. I like the designs and Alata enough to keep going, so that's me.

I prefer goseiger to shinkenger. I know a few people that do as well.

It's dreadful. I sat through almost all of it, for whatever reason. Horrible writing, bland power-ups and the weakest actors possible made the show flat-out boring.

Well you can count me as one of them.

Goseiger was a series that had the unfortunate position of being the series before the 35th anniversary and it shows. It appears that not much thought was given to anything. The actors were poor, the villans were uninteresting, the side characters were a joke and the overall theme was contrived. On top of all that the gimmick of the year was steeped in "useless collectable junk". Decapitated, robotic animal heads? Really Bandai?

But for all the negatives there were a two bright spots. Gosei Great and Gosei Ground were excellent mecha on their own right. Both units look great and they combine into an interesting and unique mecha.

Sadly though, those two mecha were the only good things about the show (in my eyes). Everything else was fluff and primer for Gokaiger.

Goseiger is a mediocre show, but I don't think it's a horrible show. I feel like it would have been better received had it not been in between two of the best Sentai shows, Shinkenger and Gokaiger.

I like it. Granted it was my first sentai but, raises shield, i don't think its any better or worse then Gokaiger.

Based off my understanding of Gokaiger and past Power Rangers series, it deviates largely from the norm. I mean how many series have an episode dedicated to discussing who the leader is over 3/4 of the way through the show? People seem to forget that this was a team just thrown together at the last minute. The tribes didn't particularly get along either. All of the gokaigers on the other hand were recruited by Marvelous and spent what we can assume is a large amount of time together prior to the series starting.

As others have said,Brajira would be an awesome villain in any type of media and gosei knight is just a bad ass.

The mecha, in my opinion are really cool looking and unique, well apart from miracle gosei great.. The miracle header power ups may not look that great but they created some of the coolest action scenes i've seen in any toku. And these are possibly some of the oldest mecha around too being something ridiculous like 10,000 years old, hence why they are set in stone and merge with modern vehicles.

Having said all that, the characters are a little drab. I don't care what anyone else says, Alata is a bloody good leader, yeah he's all cheery and cheesy, but that boy never gives in and is willing to take a beating to prove a point. Hyde is also one of my favourite toku heroes, he had a good backstory, was a good strategist and was a bad ass with his bow gun. The other 3 i couldn't give a crap about really, same for Nozuma and his dad.

So yeah, its not the greatest thing i've ever watched but its not terrible. Personally i think it has alot of ideas and motifs that require a little more reading into as they aren't explicitly stated.

It's really not that bad. I enjoyed it fairly but it was a show I watched on and off again due to it not holding my interests that much. BUT the show has definitely got it's moments. Definitely has it's moments.

PS I do also concur slightly with the timing of the series.

IMO What killed Goseiger for me was the Waterbottle Personalities of the goseiger. They had no personality and hell even the doctor character had a personality. Goseiknight was badass i will admit. but that alone could not save goseiger for me. the mecha were flatout boring, i did enjoy goseigrand however. The whole angel theme wasnt that appealing either.

The Header Gimmick was also a waste. i hated Gosei Ultimate. The Villains Were mediocre.

i actually gave this show a shot to impress me the same way i had been impressed with go-onger,shinkenger ETC. hell even sentai that i had never seen before like magiranger and dekaranger (as of this writing ive finished magiranger and on episode 27 of dekaranger) impressed me more from the clips i saw. mind you i made it to episode 20 of goseiger before i gave up and i saw the last episode

Goseiger is a definite pass and a fail of a sentai.... it should be considered a parody of sentai IMO

One thing I want to add. While it's great to discuss if people like or hate any series, make sure you try it for yourself. What a lot of people hate, you might enjoy.

Goseiger just got 20% cooler.

Those two videos demonstrate what I have said all along: that Super Sentai and Power Rangers need to be considered as two separate brands and that just because Goseiger has a strong angel motif doesn't mean it can't be adapted for Power Rangers.

I have always compared the shows to Macross and Robotech. Just because one is an adaption of the other doesn't mean you have to be married to the original stuff.

The video game idea is crazy enough to work. I like it!

Are these the same fools that thought Shinkenger couldn't be used in Power Rangers because of kanji? I'm pretty sure most of these people just don't want to see Goseiger in Power Rangers for whatever reason (there's plenty) and that's their reasoning for why it can't be used.

I mean, come on, this is Power Rangers. They took a comedy about talking cars from another dimension and turned it into a post apocalyptic series about the final hope for humanity (and it's one of the best Power Rangers ever made).

PS For the record, I would totally watch Power Rangers VS the WORLD (and Kimberly's 7 ex-boyfriends). :P

Goseiger in terms of a series could've improved in a lot of categories. One of which is the character development. There was very little if any of it at all except when they were going to receive a new power. Also, the angel motif didn't work out too well because angels + magic to me is just damn stupid. My own brother told me it was and he's not that big of a fan. I will admit the changer was poorly designed because basically it's a portable card reader will very little playability. The cards worked out pretty good but only for the Dice-O game which was created out of this series.

To me, it was a series to promote this game plus the toyline which was way overrated compared to Gokaiger's toyline and it's predecessor Shinkenger's. I have a pet peeve about anime & toku series made specifically to promote a game or product because often these series suffer from poor quality, little character development, & poor plots. Goseiger to me was a victim of that. This coming from someone who didn't miss a single episode. I wouldn't recommend this one to any fan much less another bad series, Gaoranger.

Yes, it is the worst Sentai ever. It makes Dynaman and Go-Onger look like DaiRanger and KakuRanger.

First off, the rangers. THey looked like children. I was just waiting for someone to show up and tell them it was their bedtime, and that saving the world can continue in the morning. Secondly, the mecha has to be some of the worst concepts ever. Let's be lazy and just change out the heads. Then you had the fact that the rangers never really fought, they just fired their weapons or used their powers every time. Next up, you have a group of villians that do nothing. They serve no purpose and are pretty much canon fodder for Blade Runner (or whatever his name is). GoseiKnight had no personality, as he was just a poor man's ripf off of Ninjaman. And then you have the final episodes, which its dumb as all freaking hell final battle, if that is what you can even call it. The only positive I can say this show had were the ranger costumes, as I liked the way it looks like they were vests.

I don't see how they look any more like children than any other recent group. And do you forget, we have had kids as Rangers so why does that even matter? KingRanger and Kibaranger were amazing.

So they changed heads? A lot of sentai mecha have had gimmicks. Ohranger they had different hats on the mecha, Hurri had the balls, and there are many other instances where there is a gimmick.

They fought quite often. They didn't always use their cards. I don't even know what that has to do with anything anyway. All teams use their powers to do things.

There were 3 groups of Villains. Which ones are you referring to?

Goseiknight had a personality. He wanted to protect the earth at any cost. He grew to see that the Goiseigers and he were on the same side over time.
I really don't know how anyone can call anything from sentai a rip-off as a negative. Sentai has been "ripping" itself off for years.

The final battle was amazing IMO. It was one of the better things about the show. I loved how they used their combine powers to save everyone.

Uh, the Goseiger group looked like they were 12. The Gokaigers looked like they were in their early to late 20s. The Shinkengers looked like they were late teens early 20s. Go-Onger 20s. GekiRangers were again, mid and late 20s.

I agree that it worked for KibaRanger, but that is because the writing made it work. King Ranger makes sense because he is supposed to be Egyptian.

Oh did not make a gimmick out of it. I hated the balls in Hurri.

It must have been after the first 10 episodes because that is where I stopped watching the show on a weekly basis.

Whatever group was in the first 10 episodes and in the last 5 episodes. They were worthless, there were no human form villians, and the was no reason for what they came to Earth for.

I'll take your word for it since I did not see enough of Knight, as I only watched maybe 3-5 episodes spread throughout the series.

What final battle? All they did was stop giant drills from destroying the Earth's core.

I think Go-Onger is just a tad better than Goseiger because of the ranger cast. Shinkenger is far superior, but compared to other shows, Shinkenger was average. It was another show where the villians sucked because most of them did not do anything. Juuzo was the only villian who did anything. Dokoku just got drunk the entire time. The only reason I cannot say the Zangyack Emperor was as bad as because he only sat there and did nothing for 15 episodes, Dokoku did nothing for 46 episodes.

So we are supposed to like every Sentai series Toei poops out?
