Saban Brands Generic E-mail to Power Rangers Alumni
 

For those following the developments of returning cast of previous years for Power Rangers Super Megaforce, you may remember Karan Ashley stating that all previous actors and actresses had received a generic E-mail invitation, nothing personalized, about returning to the show for the 20th Anniversary.

Thanks to Fury Diamond, a copy of said E-mail is now available for all of us to read. What's enlightening about the E-mail is that Saban Brands states that there was no intention in pre-production to include any veteran Rangers for Super Megaforce. The E-mail continues to try to influence the past actors to return "for your fans", and states that compensation would be very little in an individual basis.

What do you guys think? Given the recent backlash aimed at Saban Brands and Jonathan Tzachor by fans for what they feel is them being cheated by what Saban Brands stated would be the "most expensive" season ever at the last Power Morphicon, do you side with the actors refusing to show up because of the lack of compensation? Do you think production is being too cheap? Or do you think some of the actors could spare a four day expenditure to New Zealand for the sake of the fans?

I've said it once (I think) and I'll say it again; Saban is incredibly stupid for not including the return of past actors in the budget for the 20th Anniversary, especially since they have known about Gokaiger for two years now. Now look at where we are: fans are enraged before the show has even begun, fan-favorite alumni are rejecting invitations, Saban is revoking invitations for returning alumni, and I can now be considered a fairly active member in the Power Rangers fan community because of the "Save Titanium" campaign I started due to Saban's lack of logical foresight.

Saban, this is utter bullshit, literally using the fans to try to get out of paying the actors reasonable wages for their time.

complete bullshit, and wtf saban, you've known of gokaiger for 2 years, how did it come to pass that you didn't consider having past rangers return

they knew gokaiger was going to be adapted yet they never really prepared a proper budget large enough to accommodate everything including past rangers. they're either too cheap or too stupid.

I know it's been mentioned before, so I'll repeat it here. Fury Diamond is quite a reliable source of information, so no doubt this letter is legit.

In case anyone had any doubts, after all. This isn't a jab at anyone, Fury's been doing this for quite a few years now, and has the inside on quite a bit of info.

I agree, Saban has known all along that this would be an anniversary season and also that it would coincide with the adaptation of Gokaiger. How do you NOT budget for that?

It seems to me that Saban should be the ones to take a hit for the fans, not the actors, for their lack of preparation.

Saban must be out of their damn minds. How could they have possibly NOT known they'd need to use past rangers? They're adapting a season using footage solely based on that!! This just smacks to high hell of Saban being cheap and trying to get an easy way out. This is how I imagine the conversation went.

"Hey team. You know that season we were going to do where it's the 20th anniversary and everyone can turn into past rangers? "

"Yeah."

"Yeah we're not gonna do that. They can turn into whoever they want. But we won't edit the footage to remove sentai only characters. And we won't be using US exclusive characters. And we won't be inviting anyone to come back other than Jason David Frank. Then we play dumb like we never knew this would be a problem. Sound good? I thought so."

That English is too complex for a group of people making decisions of this caliber of stupidity.

The more I'm hearing about Super Megaforce…the more my excitement for the 2nd season is starting to die down…really a damn shame to hear how cheap Saban is being.

I understand the plight that's going on, but I'm still psyched for Super Megaforce. As long as both Jason David Frank and Austin St. John are in, I'm happy.

I also hope they bring back Amy Jo Johnson. I'm crossing my fingers she says yes.

Sometimes i wish this fanbase was like the bronies, wait till the bad news actually airs before becoming butthurt.

2) Tzachor continues to be an idiot by not paying attention to what the next season is that he has to adapt

To everyone that's hating on people being upset by all this news - open your eyes and see that this is NO WAY to honor the 20th Anniversary of the franchise that helped build your empire. Your PAST is the key to your FUTURE, and on an Anniversary Season of all things, you need to HONOR the PAST as to increase the audience of your FUTURE.

Disheartening to say the least.

I will admit that at times I do kinda hate how thanks to the internet I can't go into anything blind. I do have the ability to make my own opinion but I can't remember the last time I went into something I was excited for completely fresh.

I've gotten into a lot of things blind recently, this is the first time i spoil myself this much in a while actually.

While I do admit that it is a bit early for us to complain, I also have to bring up the fact that we now have a reason behind our complaints. This e-mail is a piece of evidence for a decently-sized portion of the reason fans are complaining. What we now know is that the reason so many alumni cannot/will not cameo in Super Megaforce is that Saban made a decision that was incredibly incompetent and stupid.

Remember when we were getting news about Super Megaforce that excited us? What happened to that kind of news?

I try my hardest to but I find it almost impossible to avoid spoilers to some degree if you're active on the internet on social networks or forums.

We should still probably wait and see if with the actors they did get they can make something good, and if the show is good that's what matters to me.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and call it now.

Previous casting sheets called for "3 months in New Zealand". The actors arrived in February to begin shooting Super Megaforce, if not late January.

February = 1
March = 2
April = 3
May = wrap

Makes you wonder if these cameos aren't for an editted final battle, or even worse, a homage to the final Gokaiger scene, where a bunch of previous Sentai get their Ranger Keys/powers back.

I think what we need right now is some good news regarding production. Where is Ciara Hanna's social-media activeness?

Unless this massive Megaforce hiatus (when is the show coming back?) is to give them more time to slide the cameos in.

I hope that's the case.

Those are more to relay all the information that could normally be spread between 5-10 pages on a normal thread, so someone wanting the full story who came in late doesn't need to go digging.

So a basic translation is "Hey gaiz, you know how Power Rangers takes footage from Super Sentai? Well, two years ago there was this anniversary series where at least 1 character from 35 different series made an appearance. Well we, uh, despite us inevitably getting up to adapting it, we knew absolutely nothing about it, we were caught completely unaware! So, we, uh we haven't put enough money into our budget to pay you what you're worth but we'd like you to come back anyway. I know its not actually enough money but, uh, THINK OF THE FANS! Yeah."

This sort of opinion makes me want to choke innocents (not literally, but you get it). It's everywhere among the ignorant masses on facebook and it really ticks me off. This is an anniversary season for all 20 seasons of Power Rangers, not just the one you personally grew up with that has aged horribly. Gokaiger did not give Gorenger any sort of special treatment for being the first Super Sentai and it was perfect, Saban should not be dumbasses and give special treatment to MMPR because its the first season, either.
And besides, even if you're not a fan of anything but MMPR, you should know that everything deserves to be celebrated. For a Transformers example, I love Transformers Animated and dislike the Transformers Anime, but I wouldn't be ignorant enough to think that they don't deserve to be celebrated along with every other part of Transformers history.
MMPR is constantly homaged, it got an entire extra toyline in 2010, it is getting figures in the Megaforce line, the Legacy toys are entirely MMPR, there's POP MMPR toys, enough with MMPR! Super Megaforce should be the opportunity to show how awesome all 20 seasons were and not just cater to nostalgic MMPR fools. It's almost at geewunner level on facebook.

We have gotten lots of bad news and more bad news is constantly appearing literally daily. Being butthurt right now is justified.

While I don't agree with the attitude, I do agree with the statement. We shouldn't be making it Super Megaforce "MMPR 2"
The levels of nostalgia glasses for that season is ridiculous.

This is a sad shame esp since I haven't been blown away by this past season compared to Power Rangers Samurai. It is a shame after 20 years you can't bring people back esp as a service to the fans. How dare they use us fans as bait to get them back. Very sad and frustrating.

You were blown away by Samurai? Were you watching it on shrooms or something?
